The best Greek food around
We ate outdoors and the Restaurant Prix Fixe menu was available. Otherwise, it would have been less affordable, but still a superb choice for Greek dining.
At the present location for 35 years, Periyali has never disappointed.
Check it out!
Very friendly and welcoming wait staff. The food was excellent.
We LOVE Periyali
Shed ambiance note - We're still coming out of the pandemic, so they deserve credit for the outdoor shed option. Compared to other outdoor sheds, though, no charm at all. Large plants hide road traffic but otherwise no decoration, and in particular no warm or mood lighting. At their price level, I would have expected more design effort on the shed set up.
Mack the waiter is awesome! Go early when you can have him all to yourself!
We booked because our preferred Greek restaurant, Kyma, was full and we had just come back from Greece last week and were craving good Greek food. The reviews were pretty good so we were looking forward to trying something new. BIG MISTAKE!
Everyone at the table agreed this was the worst service experience we have had in a long time — and one of us lives in Europe which says a lot about understanding bad service! The Maitre’D (or disgruntled Host??) was particularly rude and indifferent. We spent most of the time flagging down a waiter to order or follow-up on orders, had empty water glasses throughout the meal, and dirty plates and cutlery that were not cleared efficiently. It only kept getting worse when one of the items ordered was forgotten and someone had to wait for their main dish. And though there was plenty of time for desserts to be offered after we had finished eating our main course, we decided to leave and get dessert elsewhere.
The food was fine but not good enough to compensate for the lack of service so definitely will not return or recommend. Very basic dishes.
Also, there are compartmentalised areas towards the back of the restaurant better suited for large parties so why they would seat a round table of 10 in the main area next to the kitchen door in the path to the back areas, I have no idea!
Not family friendly in case anyone was considering it.
i have been at this restaurant several time and always great experience. Maybe the Iris flowers too intense smell.
One of our favorite restaurants!
Always so delicious!
Our server was excellent.
Overall experience chill and dope.
Excellent Greek restaurant. The food is well prepared and very fresh ingredients
This used to be my favorite Greek restaurant for 20 years, but it has gone downhill. Owner/Manager/Waitstaff are rude. Service is nonexistent. Better Greek food and atmosphere elsewhere. Bye bye.
Great food. Really authentic greek place that's formal enough but not too much of a scene. Highly recommended.
We are regular customers and had not dined at Periyali since before the pandemic. We found it to have maintained its high standards at every level.
Make sure to order the octopus and the mushroom appetizers. They were out of this world delicious, we ordered them all twice! Can’t wait to go back. 🙏
Restaurant looked great and a cool ambiance. However food was not great. Had the fried calamari and grilled octopus, both not great. The Branzino entree was not good at all.
Consistently a great place for simple Greek dining
Wonderful service, delicious dishes- Greek with a modern twist. I had the seared scallops- perfectly cooked. The calamari as a starter is a must— so tender. Not an inexpensive meal but worth it, especially for a special occasion.
This is the place to eat grilled octopus in New York City. I recommend all the food we ate. We started with two wonderful appetizers, each served with a lovely little salad and scordalia, 1. beets, and 2. giant beans. We also had fantastic fried calamari. Then three of the four of us ordered the grilled octopus as a main course which was served with lemon potatoes and horta. Everyone was happy. Our fourth ordered a special of the night which she also really liked.
Food was great. Not the BEST octopus hands down - but one of the better ones I’ve had. Service good.
one of my go too for dinner, never disappoints
Love this place. Lovely ambiance and delicious food with helpful and charming service. Everything was great, possibly the best octopus and spanakopita I've ever had. Don't miss dessert.
As a long time diner at Periyali, I would say that the restaurant has remained very good, but there are problems. We sat outside, and the table was very small. Periyali is still operating in a minimalist mode, and will according to the waitress until next Fall. There is no regular bartender, and no special cocktail list, so I couldn't have my favorite cucumber martini. The menu is significantly reduced from their regular full menu. Prices have risen significantly. The Greek salad, however, remains one of the best. We had the spinach pie special which was very good. Main dishes, the moussaka and the lamb chops, were also good. We look forward to the restaurant returning to normal, at which point we would visit more frequently.
Food was good enough, but overpriced for what it was.
I had a great gin cucumber ,martini< the branzino, It was a wonderful meal!
Great and friendly staff ! Love it here !
One of my all time favorites. It never disappoints.
Remains outstanding! Delicious dinner with friends. Great wine selection and service. Appreciated not being rushed, yet our food was timed perfectly. The octopus was excellent for flavor and texture - a frequent go-to for us. The branzino was also perfectly done and presented. Great choice of side dishes. So glad we can visit in-person again! Thanks for a lovely, and delicious, evening !
Delicious food, lovely civilized atmosphere, outstanding service by Mac. The BEST of the best!
Food was delicious. However, the branzino comes with no starch and no vegetable. How is that an entrée? Octopus appetizer is still the best of all the Greek restaurants I've tried. However, it seems most restaurants have raised their prices post covid, which makes dining out more unreasonable.
A classic as good as the day it opened....and just as busy!
We had a lovely dinner. The server was nice, the rhythm of the meal was appropriate, the atmosphere in the restaurant warm and inviting. The octopus was very good, the calamari the best I've had in a long time. The halibut special was very fresh and well done.
we really enjoyed it, and appreciated the friendly environment. The greek food is classic--and the spices and flavors are traditional and delicious.
Very good food in a beautiful dining room. We had the fried calamari, which was served in a very generous portion with a beautiful fresh salad, all as an appetizer. We also had a delicious grilled octopus. For main courses, the mousaka and the salmon were excellent and again were served in generous portions. We dined on a Friday evening and noticed a surprisingly young crowd for this type of restaurant. The only disappointment was that our server permanently disappeared after service of the entrees, but overall it was a very enjoyable meal.
Best ever anywhere
Food was disappointing considering how great this restaurant was before the pandemic. Service was impeccable. Drinks were excellent.
The service was outstanding; servers know their offerings. Best octopus ever!
