Really good kebabs in a cozy little spot.
Peri Ela on Lexington Avenue opened 13 yrs ago when we were living a block away. We went often, but have since relocated and returned for dinner before a 92nd St Y event a block north. The lovely venue is totally unchanged. Romantic lace curtains, off the charts vintage lighting, oversized artwork with all female subjects, warm decorative wood walls and gorgeous bar. The Mediterranean food selection and wine list is plentiful and savory, the bartender and servers are charming women, the owner and her two daughters, the restaurant's namesakes. It is a romantic, cozy, quiet, delicious, nicely paced dining experience in a 10 star ambience. Nothing in this UES Carnegie Hill neighborhood compares to it. (You will need a flashlight at night for the small font copious menus.) ❤ 3/8/20
Always a lovely experience and a delicious dinner.
Peri Ela is my go-to when attending 92Y events. Reliable, delicious food, quaint decor, intimate dining experience coupled with a convenient Carnegie Hill location.
Good kebobs, cute little eatery, always enjoy this place
Had an early weekday dinner. The place is beautiful, the food delicious and the service friendly and attentive.
Grilled bronzino excellent;
Grilled octopus salad fresh with tasty salad;
Almond pudding with pistachios on top was light, authentic and very delicious.
Highly recommend and will return.
Nice ambiance and gracious hostess. The food was a bit disappointing -- flavorless artichoke heart and creamed spinach (but with a good flavor) -- but the smoked eggplant was delicious.
Great neighborhood find.
Very pretty cozy place. The food and service were very good. Unfortunately there was a large party behind us where smaller tables were put together for the group. They were very noisy, everyone was yelling across at each other and the tables were too close together so that our party of three found it hard to have a conversation and the person sitting closest to the group was very uncomfortable with the screaming in her ears. If that party had not been there and the tables had remained as is with two to four at a table it would have been perfect. The place is a little too small to accommodate a very large noisy party. Of course they couldn't have known that these people would be so noisy but it is nicer as a small cozy place.
This neighborhood gem is fresh, delicious and authentic. The ambiance is warm and comfortable with beautiful wood paneling and antique lighting. The service is efficient and friendly. Highly recommend-
Service and food were excellent! A great New Year"s eve lunch.
It’s a secret and these places need to be secret. When not they descend
The food was very good. However I ordered grilled vegetables as a side, and took a big bite out of a hot pepper thinking that it would be mild. Several people at my table did the same- we had to ask for some yogurt to cool down our mouths. We should have been warned!
The service was friendly- however two credit cards were mixed up, and it wasn't until the next day that I realized that I had someone else's card. And we both signed each others bill without realizing that we had the wrong receipts. So obviously the names didn't match the cards- and no one noticed. The person that had my card was about to leave for Paris- fortunately we figured it all out before he left.
But overall it was a fun and delicious meal!
Convenient local eatery with good food and mostly accommodating servers.
Warmer, more engaging servers would be a bigger plus to match the excellent food.
Excellent menu, food, staff.
Efficient, polite service.
Always a favorite neighborhood restaurant.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. Excellent food and great ambience for a quiet dinner.
One of our favorite restaurants- the food is excellent, the service even better and it has a warm, cozy, luxurious ambience.
Excellent choice for a low-key bite near the museums. My only complaint is there was only one vegetarian option for the price fix entree, with no option for substitutions. Otherwise food was excellent and service was prompt despite a full house.
Food is consistently good and service excellent. We always enjoy our meal at Peri Ela
Very friendly staff, great service. The food was excellent. We shared 3 appetizers and they were wonderful. The drinks were generous and well made. A nice choice a few blocks down from the 92nd Street Y.
If you're looking to try something new, give Peri Ela a shot! While I wasn't floored by the overall experience, it was still enjoyable.
The food was delicious-authentic and fresh. The service is warm and inviting in a pretty, wood-paneled setting with lovely lighting.
The food is consistently bad and the meats such as lamb and chicken are always some type of pressed meat filled with fat and grain. Just dreadful.
I love this place- one of the best restaurants on the UES and it makes you feel like you’re somewhere far from NYC. Totally charming and the food is excellent
This is my local, a neighborhood favorite with food that is of unusually high quality. No showy exoticism, but everything is authentic and well prepared. The servers are usually young, pleasant and bright. The place is quiet at lunch, and has a bargain menu, but in the evening it is busy and can get noisy.
The food was delicious. Our server is very kind; however she was not 100% attentive. Maybe she thought we wanted to sit and talk and have a long meal. I’m not sure. But our appetizers came pretty quickly and then the actual meal did not come for a very long time. I had to flag her down to get the check. We were the only patrons in the restaurant.
Good food And service extremely noisy because they don’t have any sound protection.Thats my whole review.
Due to traffic we were 20 minutes late. Service was outstanding and we got out rapidly and made the
Concert with ease.
Nice, cozy neighborhood spot. Lots of charm and food is good. Well worth a visit.
I was disappointed in the swordfish kebabs which were dry this time. The scallion pancakes were excellent, however.
Delightful Turkish restaurant with great food, lovely people, small and not noisy. Totally recommended.
Could kick myself for all my nights attending events at the 92nd St Y, when I ate awful dinners in that area. What a GEM we discovered in Peri Ela. Wonderful, wonderful. Even Danny Meyer doesn't have a nicer, more authentically caring knowledgeable team! The food is GREAT. The salads particularly. Citrus salad based and then whatever is best of season (avocado/watermelon). Any kabob dish, super! ... the lamb chops pounded a bit too thin for our taste, but the grilled pulpo (octopus) was a total gift from the Mediterranean food gods. Sadly, we were to rushed to order dessert. And, you will learn to really like a Turkish Rosé : )) Go, enjoy.
For us it was just too noisy and too crowded. Service was good and very pleasant, but the noise made the evening difficult.
Great food and service. Quaint and romantic stop to catch a bite for lunch.
a GOOD PLACE TO EAT PRIOR TO EVENTS AT THE 92 STREET Y.
Good salads and kebabs with excellent roasted potatoes and/or rice.
Restaurant was empty but was holiday weekend.
Waitstaff very good
A leisurely evening with good food and a comfortable atmosphere created a warm environment to visit with an old friend. We split dishes which reduced the cost. The restaurant let us sit and talk for hours without a hassle. We will be back.
Overpriced! Decent food . 4 skinny lamb chops for $35 , really ?
This is my go-to place in the neighborhood for fresh, authentic Mediterranean food. Differently than in many such places, you needn’t fill up on appetizers. These can be good, but there are occasional misses. There is a lovely citrus salad. The grilled main courses are always perfect. Quality meat or fish is correctly cooked, with the traditional accompaniments- rice, potatoes, a grilled hot pepper and a tomato half. Service is by attractive and friendly, if not always very experienced young staff.
