For freshness and flavor you can't go wrong by aiming for a classic Mediterranean cuisine appreciated around the world. At the heart of a Mediterranean meal is fresh quality ingredients down to the olive. Pera chooses to take that aim, and where possible we will use local farms, as well as locally grown produce. In selecting our lamb and beef cuts we strive to make grass feeding top on the list.
Add to this Pera's offering of regional breads and desserts made in-house with a full array of compatible California wines, Greek, Turkish, and domestic beers. And finally top it all off with Turkish coffee.

Pera Ratings and Reviews
Turkish dishes were very good, along with Greek salad. Enjoyed the restaurant but the neighborhood is not worth stopping in. Parked just around the corner I had my car window smashed out and laptop and cameras stolen while I ate. People sitting outside at another restaurant just 100ft or so from my car said they saw nothing but that it happens a few times a week.
I have lost count the number of times I have been to Pera. Why do i keep going back? the treat you like friends and family. The warmth that Metin, his brother Irfan, and their entire staff shower upon the dinners is rare in this day and age. The food is always delicious. If you are looking for the trendiest, new restaurant, don't go here. If you are looking for a place you can call home, where you will not feel rushed, where getting to know the employees is a plus, and where you are appreciated as a customer, please take a moment to stop by.
This was the worst experience. Upon arrival at 6:25pm for our dinner reservation of 6:30pm, we had to wait 5 minutes before they greeted us. Immediately, they told us we had to vacant our table by 8:00pm for another reservation. We were seated and had to wait 10 minutes before they took our drink orders. Then had to wait another 10 minutes before they took our order. We ordered three appetizers and only two came out. They said we never ordered a third appetizer. By 7:30pm, our dinner was served. The two pasta dishes were cool; not hot. My seafood dish was not warm either. At 7:50pm, they gave us our dinner bill and said we had 5 minutes to pay and leave.
Often I would give a restaurant a second chance, but I will not for this restaurant because they are rated poorly for service and food.
The food at Pera was fine. Nicely presented. The restaurant front door literally blows cold air on every diner along either wall every time it is opened. There is a partial wall in the center which would shield you from the wind, but nobody was seated there. It isn't warm enough in that part of the city any time of year to allow the draft to blow on you every time someone comes in or goes out. In fact there is outdoor seating in the front and the waitstaff is constantly going in and out. I was chilled from the beginning of my meal to the end. It was annoying and hard to focus on my meal. The waitstaff is very underdressed in my opinion. We don't need tuxedos here, but frankly a whitish undershirt and jeans hits a very wrong note.
Met for a business lunch and had an efficient and tasty meal. It is what you would expect for Mediterranean—simple and fresh; not over complicated with sauces or dressings.
For the neighborhood, it’s adds variety to the flavors available for a change of pace.
This was a good spot I found looking for new flavors. I liked that fact it wasn't a long wait and we "luckily" found easy parking. Take your time to find parking as it is a very limited area.
Food was great, fast service and delicious new flavors to try with my 9 year old foodie and my wife.
I would recommended if you are looking to challenge your paladar. Enjoy!
Pera is a "go-to" for me for business meals. With it's central location, comfortable ambiance and delicious food, Pera is a stand-out in mid-town. My only hesitation is the price level, particularly at lunch. It would be lovely if the restaurant would establish some type prix fixe for mid-day. Otherwise highly recommended
The mucver (zucchini cakes) appetizer was delicious as well as the manti entree. We also got the scallops appetizer and ground lamb over eggplant entree, both very good. Servers were friendly but we weren't told about the specials (we overheard the table next to us being told the specials). Also, we were not offered bread and dipping spread when the table next to ours was. We ordered two appetizers and two entrees. We also ordered a side of garlic fries and a side of hummus. The hummus was somewhat bland, which is the only complaint about the food. Nice, casual dinner overall.
Four of us enjoyed Turkish beer (Efes), delicious appetizers, and wonderful main courses. The saganaki was not what we expected, and we probably would not order that again, but we recommend the kofte and the spanakopita, along with the boregi, the ali nazik, the iskender, and the manti. For dessert, kunefe and gelato hit the spot. We'll return!
This was our first time at Pera. We were so very impressed with all aspects of this restaurant! The food is authentic turkish cuisine, done so well with interesting spices and lots of care. I had no idea I would enjoy this type of food so much - so much better than other Mediterranean restaurants we have enjoyed. We were equally impressed by the service staff, and the co-owner who greeted us at the door, checked in throughout, had a wonderful sense of humor, and definitely knew his country and it's food. We felt a warmth and welcome from all encounters! This has become one of our favorites.
Two of us had lunch recently -- The Shish Kebab plate (all lamb/dinner size) and the Traditional Breakfast Feast as well as a couple of drinks. The plate was very good - tasty leg of lamb with well cooked vegetables. The breakfast was mediocre compared to our home made meals and those we've had in Turkey, Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East. Felt as it they really weren't serious about making the Breakfast -- just ran to the grocery for average ingredients. I would give it a second chance to try some of the other dishes before passing final judgement. Drinks were average in taste and price. All-in-all a different neighborhood place than normal, maybe better at dinner after they've warmed up the kitchen staff.
My friend and I shared a moussaka and chicken-lamb kebab. The moussaka was very good. The kebab chicken tasted like it had been re-heated, not cooked from raw. And both chicken and lamb were overcooked (lamb was barely pink--I like it deep pink). The veggies were fresh and cooked just right. The red house wine was nice. The appetizer of 2 spanakopita was ok but at $10, I think priced too high. Service was very good.
The menu was all very appealing, and the Greek salad and moussaka we ordered were both quite good. It's tough to find a restaurant open on Mondays, we Pera fit the bill.
This was a very early dining time, so the restaurant was particularly quiet and pleasant.
I love the variety of brunch options that are available, and healthy! There is a nice mix of Mediterranean food along with American brunch options as sides. Quiet enough to have conversation with friends and don't feel rushed to finish your meal. Overall attentive service.
I was pleasantly surprised by most recent meal at Pera. I'm a neighbor and have been there numerous times and the food was fine. This time it was excellent. Ingredients were very fresh and well prepared. Had a little glitch on my order, where I'd requested salad instead of potatoes, which did not come correctly at first. But the issue was quickly rectified. And worth the wait. The fruit was especially flavorful. I shall return.
Pera was less than my expectations. I rated it low because our food came after an hour and a half, we weren't served bread until 15 minutes before our meal. Our servers kept switching through out the night and overall our experience was cumbersome and slow at best.
I the food was okay but the wait was uncomfortable. We saw a few tables come and go with drinks, bread and food before we saw our meal. When I we mentioned it to our waiter he said that was a typical Friday night and he didn't know what we was expecting.
Overall the company I had was great but the service wasn't. We won't be coming back anytime soon. Would not recommend unless you have spare time and an open appetite.
Disappointed. My friends and I went here to grab a bite last minute on a Friday night. The short of the long is we waited over an hour and a half to get our food. We had 2 different waiters that never checked in to see how we were doing or how our food was or drinks. Lastly, we watched as several tables around us that arrived after us got food, bread and cashed out before us. Maybe it was an off night, but not worth the hassle to go back again.
Side note: we made our reservation on open table, mentioned it at the door but at the end of the night I got an email saying we never showed up. The experience as a whole felt difficult.
We had a specialty - cannot remember the name, but it was a medium spicy chopped up lamp on top of an eggplant puree and it was FABULOUS. We also had the salmon which was over cooked to our taste, but the accompanying creamed spinach and potatoes were great.
Really yummy food and great service! The restaurant was empty when we arrived on Sunday at 7pm, but slowly started gaining more tables - and that did not reflect the service or food. Truly a wonderful experience! Definitely will be going back!
My boyfriend is Turkish. We went for the authentic Turkish breakfast with some friends visiting from NYC. It was easy to get a reservation, and the food was delicious. We had two vegetarians in our group, and everyone was extremely pleased with their meal options. If you go for brunch make sure you order a glass of juice. They don't advertise it, but it's fresh squeezed to order.
Pera is a neighborhood favorite for us and has been for a long time. It's probably been six months or so since our last visit. We were just back from a trip to Istanbul and decided to take our dinner party of four to Pera for my wife's birthday. With memories of Istanbul's wonderful restaurants fresh and much in mind, Pera showed itself a real gem - we had four amazing dishes and shared them around among us - two from the regular menu and two specials. Food, service, and hospitality all felt as great as we'd experienced in Istanbul. It was perfect for the birthday with a wonderful feast that made us grateful we're in walking distance. We left the restaurant talking about how glad we were we could return soon.
