The service was terrible. The food was served cold. I would never eat there again. The meal started off poorly when our wine menu was missing a page. Then our entres came out before our appetizers. One of the entres, lobster risotto, came out only empty lobster shell scraps. When we asked, we were told the chef didn’t want to make the dish and sometimes the customer pays the price. They then INSISTED on bringing an alternate dish out after repeated attempts to decline; and then they had the poor taste to charge us for the extra dish! Needless to say, we will not be going back.
Outdoor seating pleasant . Decent service. Enjoyed the pasta sauces. More northern than southern.
Great as always !
Great place. Both indoor and outdoor seating is appealing. Happy, elegant and friendly atmosphere. Very good wine list and real Italian cooking. Many Italian restaurants do not have the names we look for but Per Lei does. One can go for all occasions or no occasion and be happy.
We tried the tagliatelle (homemade) al ragu and the veal chop. Both were very good. The service was excellent and friendly. Gabriella the hostess, and both of our waiters were great. We will be back.
Our kids just moved into the neighborhood and we stopped in to have dinner. What a great place. Hostess was so pleasant and the service was excellent. The food was outstanding. I had the tagliatelle with veal ragout and will definitely go back for that. My wife had the grilled chicken and which she enjoyed very much.
The service was horrible and the food expensive and mediocre. Waited over an hour for food. Liked around and no one had foot on their table. Management never gave an update on why everything was so late and the staff refused to make eye contact. We had to get up in order to get their attention. I’ve been eating here for years. Never has such a horrible experience. I won’t be back.
This is our second and last dinner at Per Lei.
The big problem is the food. Tough pasta. Stale white bread. Overcooked fish. Poorly prepared artichokes. There were 6 of us and the lousy food was universal.
The second problem is the service. Despite plenty of staff and a manager hovering in the back, there was minimal attention.
This has not hurt their business. It's been around for years and is popular.
So they don't need to improve.
If you want good food or good service, this is not the place.
The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and attentive! After we were done with dinner and dessert, a friend of ours stopped in to meet us and even though they were trying to close up, they were fine with us ordering and finishing another bottle of wine. I would definitely go back!
Great food. Greeted nicely. All service was pleasant and great ambiance.
Great location, lovely lighting, airy and pretty; unfortunately, mediocre food.
Despite the north se of construction on the street we had a lovely lunch between two old friends
Always a great meal and a great feeling when dining at Per Lei. Gianluca the GM is always friendly, and the food and service are great.
The food was perfectly average, and the decor and ambiance were quite nice, but the service was just abominable. Only 4 out of our party of 6 were served water at the start of the meal, and it took multiple asks to have the other 2 out of the party served. It took forever for our food to come out despite us being the very first guests in the restaurant when it opened. We still had a nice time overall, but given how many other options there are in the area, I don't think we will return.
The service was Ok-ish, but the dishes were very average quality, no seasonings at all -
not at all what is expected of Italian cuisine.
Their cocktails are quite expensive, but they do not differ much from the most ordinary ones, everything is very mediocre to my taste.
We came following the recommendation of friends and left very disappointed.
Quality and service very good. Restaurant was empty for lunch - we were only ones. There’s no lunch menu so ordering lunch off the dinner menu is very expensive.
Absolutely wonderful attentive caring service for us with our wheelchair bound friend. Just lovely
Had a reservation for lunch and when we walked in there was no waiter. The barstools were still up on the bar and no customers were there. We were taken care of by Carlo who is not a service person but very nice and personable. Overall the food was great. We had veal meatballs, orchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage and veal ravioli. Not much atmosphere eating in a nearly empty restaurant but nonetheless a good experience.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Wonderful neighborhood restaurant.
Per Lei is a great neighborhood gem. What makes it very special is the people who work there. Carlo the General Manager always knows how to make you feel warm and welcome. Including the waiter, staff are the most professional and really give you excellent service. They always try to make everything right. I would highly recommend this restaurant. One of the best Italian on the Upper East Side for food quality and Service.
Very nice food , service and atmosphere . Have had lunch and dinner
Bright, inviting and engaging staff. Food was wonderful and the ambiance was as well. Food was prepared exactly as ordered and we were both served well and entertained by our Waiter..
Would definitely choose this wonderful restaurant again for lunch or dinner. .
Overpriced and over-cooked
Have been to brunch at Per Lei many times and always had a good meal. They have a brunch menu as well as a full menu of Italian food including great salads and pastas.
Really enjoyed all of the food. The only major downside was the table size -- dishes are served on large plates, and there's virtually NO space between guests for common dishes to share. We were constantly holding plates in the air, putting them on the floor, or repeatedly requesting waitstaff to remove extra things off our table to unsuccessfully try to make room. Place is great if everyone just has their own personal dish in front of them.
In addition, wine was delicious, but knowing the retail price of many of the bottles, the mark-ups seemed excessive, anywhere from 3-6x what the the price is in store ($10 bottle was selling for $60+).
Very friendly, accommodating, and no pressure!
Always good! Consistent service and food, nice atmosphere.
Pretty, convenient Italian restaurant, very convenient neighborhood spot..
The food was very good, the service was very good, as well. Not the best Italian meal I’ve ever had but I would definitely go back. The best thing I ate was the tomato sauce on the eggplant parm. Gnocchi was very good, too.
Per Lei is always good for us. We've been going for many years. Great Calamari Fritti.
Charming neighborhood restaurant with great food and warm service.
Great service and food!
Great restaurant!! People should know how extremely friendly is the staff and how good the food is!! Thanks per lei to be in my neighborhood!!!!
Thank you so much for such a wonderful dinner. Service was excellent and our waiter went above and beyond to make our evening great. Food was delicious, per usual
Large group. Waiter was very pleasant. Most all 8 eaters enjoyed their meals. We ordered pastas, meal, chicken, fish.
Had an excellent meal. One if the specials was lobster with linguini. Excellent food and service.
Great service and excellent meal. The waiter went out of his way to provide us with special treatment to make our dining experience even better. I have been there many times over the last 10 years and it never disappoints.
Always a great meal. Though I live 30 blocks away, this is my ‘go to’ place. Service is excellent, food consistently wonderful , fresh and CLEAN, and my waiter, Mauricio , is SO worth the trip, He always recommends the best dishes and is just so friendly , funny and knowledgeable . If you have not tried this place, you must. Also, the setting is romantic and the music sublime, !!!
Excellent food overall but my shrimp and asparagus risotto special was extraordinary and the best I've ever had. Definitely needs to be on regular menu. Service impeccable and friendly. A romantic spot. Staff very attentive. Love the edgy artwork that adorns the walls. We will be back.
