Pepperoncini Sotto Restaurant & Bar Phoenixville - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time eating here and probably will be my last. We started with the grilled octopus appetizer, which was pretty good, although I am used to a hot grilled octopus and this was served cold in a sort of salad. It was very tender but there was a lot for 2 people. I had the Seafood Risotto (which at $29.00 was the most expensive thing on the menu). Although the chef made the risotto dairy-free for me due to my dietary restrictions, the dish was a real disappointment. The clams and mussels were so tiny I could barely find them! The risotto was good, but extremely salty. My husband had the Chicken Pepperoncini (their specialty). I tasted it and it reminded me of sweet and sour chicken with a slight after burn. It was ok, but certainly not worth the price! They pride themselves on home made pasta, but my husband thought it was fair at best. This restaurant is extremely expensive for what you get and is not a BYOB so you're paying more for the drinks, too. There are so many great Italian restaurants with better food for much less money that I will not return to this one.
Had planned a "kids free night" for several parents! Made reservations easily, when called to confirm that asked if they would like our party of 10 to be seated in room off the bar! It was perfect! Felt like our own private party. Our waitress was very accommodating and attentive!
This was the worst Italian food I have had in years.
Fried Raviolis and rice balls were luke warm. Pretty sure they were not fresh and microwaved . Apps came out in under 5 minutes . Scallops were rubber.
Lastly the place was empty on a Sunday night . Locals must know the food is bad
We had a very nice family meal with lots of GREAT Pasta! The matriarch of the family didn't get her salad though, so that was a bit of a black mark, but he felt bad and ended up giving us a Caesar at same price. The wine was also delicious and the whole gang (us and 2 kids!) had a great time
On a typical Sunday night for dinner - we were one of the first tables seated. The room quickly filled up. It took forever to get our drinks and longer than normal to get our salads and meals. They were VERY short staffed. Looks like they frantically called another waitress to come in last minute. Once she arrived, it got a little better. There were 5 of us and they kept bringing out 4 of things...4 salads with the 5th arriving 5 mins later; 4 entrees, with the 5th arriving 5 mins later; 4 cocktails with 5th arriving only after we asked twice (and it was a draft beer - how hard is that?!). Overall, the food was good; our waitress apologized for the slow service. (We did see one family get up and walk out). NOTE: Chicken Parm - although good - enough to feed a family of 4! Way too much pasta!
Service was not up to par. We had to repeatedly ask for water, utensils, cream for coffee, etc. There were 8 of us but restaurant was not busy. In the past waitresses were attentive and very observant of our needs. I was dissappointed. I know new people, but with all the competition extra effort should be given to make customers comfortable and happy so that they will return.
The food was great. The staff was attentive without being over the edge. The wine selection was a bit lacking for our tastes which is on the Reisling side. The restaurant itself is showing some issues. The ceilings are spotted, tiles replaced with different shades of black, etc. The available lighting including ambiant on pictures was not ililluminated.
While the food was delicious, the service was subpar. Took asking two hostesses to be checked in and seated for our reservation. We were seated without menus because they ran out and we were only given them because we had to go back to the hostess station and ask. Took several minutes for the server to take our drink orders and even longer for the drinks to arrive. No one came to refill our waters during our meal. Where a children's menu was requested we were informed that any menu item could be made in a children's portion. When the bill came, we were charged full price for a child's size portion of linguine and clams. Very disappointed in the service at Pepperoncini Sotto.
Have been here before and it was great. I do not know if there is a new owner or chef, but the menu was smaller, no specials, my food was bland and under cooked, 2 tables near me had to send their food back, our waitress was no where to be found, we had to ask another waitress for utensils. I would not recommend, was a great place but something changed.
I've been visiting Pepperoncini for almost 5 years for both Happy Hour and dinner. My latest visit was for happy hour. I was disappointed to see that they stopped their previous happy hour deal (1/2 price apps, and 1/2 price drinks) for a much less generous deal. Regardless, we stayed with our original plans and had drinks and multiple appetizers at regular prices. One noticeable difference was that the portions were also smaller. For example, what used to be a full plate of calamari with two dipping sauces (one marinara, one aioli) was now a significantly reduced portion of calamari placed on top of some mixed greens (apparently to hide the reduction in calamari) and only one dipping sauce. The food quality was still good, but given the less generous happy hour deal and smaller portions, the value is not what it used to be.
Worst food we have had in a long time. Almost all food had to be sent back because it either was wrong, was burned or had water on top of it (pasta and pizza). We ended up not eating and just going to get ice cream instead. We won't be back. The cook in Consho didn't change so if anything try there instead.
Out of the dozens of reviews i've left on OpenTable ,this place was the absolute worst. I try to be fair in my assessment. First of all, the service was good. Alyssa greeted us promptly, took our drink order. We placed our appetizer order with the drink order to minimize wait time but after an hour, the apps showed up. I ordered shrimp wrapped in prosciutto and peppers but it appeared to wrapped in bacon with no peppers. Needless to say, I woofed it down due to extreme hunger. My wife ordered a tomato and mozzarella salad. The tomatoes were mealy. She barely ate any. A caesar salad proved no better. No flavor and soggy. When we ordered our entrees we were told that the experienced chef was in the kitchen so I ordered the veal sinatra a house specialty. Well I think ole blue eyes would have turned over in his grave if he knew this slop had his name. The veal was absolutely flavorless and the sauce was bland. We also ordered a pepperoni & hot pepper pizza. The best description is Ellio's pizza I use to eat as a kid but Ellio's doesn't deserve that bad of a review. This so called Itailan restaurant just didn't get it right. We had ordered a spaghetti and meatball to go but cancelled it when the rest of our meal sucked big time. We travelled abit to dine here. The 1000 point bonus was an incentive but the meal was a total disaster. My advise is Alyssa get another job and condemn this restaurant. Go to Ralph's in Kop
Service was disappointing. They never brought out our salads. When they brought out our meals we had to ask for them for our salads and a few other things that we had asked for with our meals and the stupid waitress said "sorry the kitchen was slammed" I wanted to ask if she wanted to go with that excuse because there were at least 5 empty tables in the dinning room and no large parties. Seriously....excuses don't make it better. I wanted to remind her it was her job to make sure we got great service, not the kitchen. Unfortunately, that was not the only downfall, I thought it was the funniest.
we went out for a family nite . no reservation available till 6:45 . we arrived at 6:30 . the place was empty .. the special steak was cooked like hockey pucs. not even edible .
manager did take off the Bill but still I had shrimp scampi , served ice cold to the plate. just horrible . we paid $150.00 for 4 salads . two appetizers, 4 glasses of wine and one edible crsb cake dinner would not ever recommend it.
We dine here often as our daughter regularly sings nearby. We always in enjoy the food and service. It is not high end but it's usually very good. Tonight was not so much ! My wife's Scallop Risotto dinner was ok at best it lacked any real flavor or seasoning. My Shrimp and linguini had a older seafood taste and smell. Prior to it being being served we experienced issues with very slow and unorganized service. We normally have a cocktail when seated and then a glass of wine with dinner. Due to the very long wait for our cocktail and the ensuing slow service having a glass of wine was not an option. Some of our order was served incorrect. I chalked this up to a most inexperienced and untrained waitress. She was very polite and did her best. After dinner I was discussing with her a bit some of our disappointment. I did so in a constructive manner. I sensed she was sincerely sorry. She also was quite new less than 2 weeks. What was most noticeable to us was that all but one person on the staff was extremely young none of whom seemed very organized. We never experienced this beforehand this restaurant. The lack of floor leadership and organization made for a most unenjoyable experience. I hope the restaurant will read this review and recommit to properly training and staffing its team. We may stop in for a drink and see if things look differently before we dine here again. Very unfortunate decline in satisfaction from our past dinners here.
For a Saturday night, the restaurant was moderately busy, yet the waitstaff could not keep up with tables. We waited for salads and entrees, as well as drink refills. The shrimp scampi was flavorless and lukewarm, and meatball sandwich was dry with very little sauce. We were very disappointed with the overall dining experience and will not be returning.
Service was slow, didn't bring second glass of wine ordered, shrimp and pasta was very bland (where were the Italian spices and flavoring?), chicken with tomatoes, mozzarella was good ( leave off the pesto and use spices).
The table off to the left of the bar was next to a high top for happy hour. Conversation was too loud, hard to hear my spouse, and was too loud. The 5 tables all had service problems, waiting for the check and than trying to pay was a challenge. If you were trying to turn tables, not this night.
The food has been spotty, service was much better, and price to value about the same.
If I were the manager, provide a better high top in the lounge and keep the noise in the bar, not carry out into the dining area, which is why people choose tables in the dining rooms.
Service was horrible. Waited over 30 min for my drink to be delivered to our table while my wife got her's sooner and was done before mine arrived. Server was pleasant, just really not attentive. My wife's salmon was dry and potatos burnt - the latter not edible. My meal was pretty good, but odd. It was chicken, shrimp, crab meat with mashed potatos and gravy. All good stuff but all was served on a bed of mashed potatos and gravy so having shrimp and crab meat slathered in gravy and potatos - very odd.
If you like Italian food at a reasonable price, this is the place to go. My wife and I have made this a regular stop when we are in Phoenixville. Don't be deceived by its location. It is not in the hotel but actually is a grotto like setting below the hotel. Great place to get together with friends and just have appetitizers & drink.
