Pepi's Restaurant & Bar Ratings and Reviews
One and done for this tourist trap:
Our server was nice but the hostesses were rude. Food was not good & it was overpriced. Furthermore, we were seated at a table right next to an over decorated door and the decorations snagged my husband's brand new sweater.
I had been at least 15 years since my last visit to Pepi's!
Had lunch with relatives while attending a wedding wekend and could not have been more pleased with the service and atmosphere.
Very authentic as I lived in Germany for seven years.
Returned for dinner and the Wild dish of quail, venison, and elk was special! Highly recommended!
We have enjoyed dining at Pepe's for many years, but this last visit was a true disappointment. The meal was completely under seasoned and bland (and it's not easy to add salt and pepper to a schnitzel after it has been cooked) overcooked and dry. The traditional "parsley potatoes" on the menu were replaced with what can only be described as "home fries". Gulasch soup was tasty, but the rest of the meal was no where near the quality of years past. That just may have been our last dinner at Pepe's. Sad, but far too many places to choose from to return for mediocre food.
Raw meat! Pepi’s is supposed to specialize in the preparation of game. We ordered the caribou medium and got one raw and one well done chop each. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress, she offered to bring one chop back to have it further cooked. The returned chop looked like it had been microwaved as it was now well done. I brought this situation to the manager who said he would “ see what he could do”. The waitress returned to offer a free dessert. Considering the entrees were $42 each, this was no where near appropriate for dinners we couldn’t eat. When we were given the bill, 15% was deducted from each entree...an insult to say the least. We paid the bill and left without further comment....no point as these people were clueless abour customer service.
As a second home owner in Vail since 1992 and skiing here long before that, we have been coming to Pepi's for lunch and dinner, winter and summer for over 30 years, but tonight was our last time. My wife's sister was staying with us for two weeks and wanted to take her to one of our old favorites. Had a reservation for 3 at 7 pm on Labor Day. When we arrived the hostess took us to a 4 top in the middle of the covered patio. As we made our way to the table we passed another 4 top on the railing looking outside. I asked if we could be seated there instead. Hostess said no as she needed to keep it open in case a party of 5 came in. OK no problem. We ordered some cocktails, asked about the specials, and started studying the wine list. Soon thereafter another party of 3 seated in the back of the dining room were reseated at the exact same table on the railing we asked about. A few minutes later the hostess came by to light the candle on our table. We pointed out that another party of 3 was reseated at the table we inquired about. She did not apologize and said she does but control what happens in the dining room. Another 4 top was being reset right next to the table in question. We asked if we could be reseated there and was told the same story of needing to keep it open in case a party of 5 came in. After that it was clear we could not have an enjoyable dinner so we left and thanked the hostess on our way out. Given it was Labor Day evening Vail was slow as most of the tourists had already departed for the day. As a result Pepi's lost 3 covers on us which would have included cocktails, apps, entrees, 2 bottles of wine and dessert. Ended up going to Russell's and had a very enjoyable dinner. Passed by Pepi's 90 minutes later and there were several tables open on the railing and one of the 4 tops only had 2 people! Pains me to write this review but it is what it is.
Food was excellent as always. We really enjoy dining at Pepi's whenever we are in Vail. This time the food did not disappoint. The schnitzel was excellent and the cheese spaetzle were also really good. We will definitely return when we are in Vail next time.
A good friend recommended Pepi's, so while we were vacationing, five of us dined there. Though the ambiance was cosy, the live music charming, and the scene of strollers and shops from our patio table perfect, the most important factors were not so perfect. The several breads brought to our table were all rather insipid and cold. My family members had dinners they enjoyed, but my veal wiener schnitzel was tasteless and barely warm. To verify, I had others taste it, and all agreed. The exclamation point was an aged waitress who defied the younger waitresses by comically compromising the Swiss/Austrian costume, stepped on my foot without apologizing, scowled most of the evening, and was slow, making us wait for the check long past our last swallow. Never again!
Had sent two emails and also open table and confitmed after checking that it was for birthday and wanted nice table on patio. the nice table on patio was in a very cold spot and matre d very condescending and unpleasant about moving to another table which was heated area. He was pretty obnoxious and i wish we had gone elsewhere because kase spatzlewas mediocre. i wanted nothing for free but knowing it was a birthday which was never mentioned again they could have tried to even say happy birthday.
We had a special family dinner on our last night in Vail, after hearing the New York Philharmonic. I had a delicious Bloody Mary. The crab cakes were great and we inhaled them. It was a step up in cuisine for the kids, but they enjoyed their Jagerschnitzel and steak. I had the trout, which had a delicate crispy top. When a junk-food-loving, vegetable-hating kid waxes rhapsodic over carrots, you know they do sides beautifully. My husband's red cabbage tasted like the healthiest comfort food imaginable. It was a great way to close out our Vail trip.
