The best Bloody Mary I’ve had in Vail. The German and Austrian food was amazing. The bartender, Sean, was an exceptional host.

I had been at least 15 years since my last visit to Pepi's!
Had lunch with relatives while attending a wedding wekend and could not have been more pleased with the service and atmosphere.
Very authentic as I lived in Germany for seven years.
Returned for dinner and the Wild dish of quail, venison, and elk was special! Highly recommended!

We have enjoyed dining at Pepe's for many years, but this last visit was a true disappointment. The meal was completely under seasoned and bland (and it's not easy to add salt and pepper to a schnitzel after it has been cooked) overcooked and dry. The traditional "parsley potatoes" on the menu were replaced with what can only be described as "home fries". Gulasch soup was tasty, but the rest of the meal was no where near the quality of years past. That just may have been our last dinner at Pepe's. Sad, but far too many places to choose from to return for mediocre food.

The schnitzel was very thin but portion size was generous. Apple strudel was tasty. The traffic in and out of the bar area where live music was playing was distracting.

Raw meat! Pepi’s is supposed to specialize in the preparation of game. We ordered the caribou medium and got one raw and one well done chop each. When we brought this to the attention of the waitress, she offered to bring one chop back to have it further cooked. The returned chop looked like it had been microwaved as it was now well done. I brought this situation to the manager who said he would “ see what he could do”. The waitress returned to offer a free dessert. Considering the entrees were $42 each, this was no where near appropriate for dinners we couldn’t eat. When we were given the bill, 15% was deducted from each entree...an insult to say the least. We paid the bill and left without further comment....no point as these people were clueless abour customer service.

We were there for our 27th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time! Our waiter and Chef outdid themselves! We also got to meet Pepi and his beautiful wife-what a treat!

As a second home owner in Vail since 1992 and skiing here long before that, we have been coming to Pepi's for lunch and dinner, winter and summer for over 30 years, but tonight was our last time. My wife's sister was staying with us for two weeks and wanted to take her to one of our old favorites. Had a reservation for 3 at 7 pm on Labor Day. When we arrived the hostess took us to a 4 top in the middle of the covered patio. As we made our way to the table we passed another 4 top on the railing looking outside. I asked if we could be seated there instead. Hostess said no as she needed to keep it open in case a party of 5 came in. OK no problem. We ordered some cocktails, asked about the specials, and started studying the wine list. Soon thereafter another party of 3 seated in the back of the dining room were reseated at the exact same table on the railing we asked about. A few minutes later the hostess came by to light the candle on our table. We pointed out that another party of 3 was reseated at the table we inquired about. She did not apologize and said she does but control what happens in the dining room. Another 4 top was being reset right next to the table in question. We asked if we could be reseated there and was told the same story of needing to keep it open in case a party of 5 came in. After that it was clear we could not have an enjoyable dinner so we left and thanked the hostess on our way out. Given it was Labor Day evening Vail was slow as most of the tourists had already departed for the day. As a result Pepi's lost 3 covers on us which would have included cocktails, apps, entrees, 2 bottles of wine and dessert. Ended up going to Russell's and had a very enjoyable dinner. Passed by Pepi's 90 minutes later and there were several tables open on the railing and one of the 4 tops only had 2 people! Pains me to write this review but it is what it is.

Authentic Austrian food. Friends from Cologne, Germany say it is the best in the U.S.A. I wish I could authenticate their goulash but it is worth driving from Denver to have a bowl.

Food was excellent as always. We really enjoy dining at Pepi's whenever we are in Vail. This time the food did not disappoint. The schnitzel was excellent and the cheese spaetzle were also really good. We will definitely return when we are in Vail next time.

A good friend recommended Pepi's, so while we were vacationing, five of us dined there. Though the ambiance was cosy, the live music charming, and the scene of strollers and shops from our patio table perfect, the most important factors were not so perfect. The several breads brought to our table were all rather insipid and cold. My family members had dinners they enjoyed, but my veal wiener schnitzel was tasteless and barely warm. To verify, I had others taste it, and all agreed. The exclamation point was an aged waitress who defied the younger waitresses by comically compromising the Swiss/Austrian costume, stepped on my foot without apologizing, scowled most of the evening, and was slow, making us wait for the check long past our last swallow. Never again!

Had sent two emails and also open table and confitmed after checking that it was for birthday and wanted nice table on patio. the nice table on patio was in a very cold spot and matre d very condescending and unpleasant about moving to another table which was heated area. He was pretty obnoxious and i wish we had gone elsewhere because kase spatzlewas mediocre. i wanted nothing for free but knowing it was a birthday which was never mentioned again they could have tried to even say happy birthday.

We had a special family dinner on our last night in Vail, after hearing the New York Philharmonic. I had a delicious Bloody Mary. The crab cakes were great and we inhaled them. It was a step up in cuisine for the kids, but they enjoyed their Jagerschnitzel and steak. I had the trout, which had a delicate crispy top. When a junk-food-loving, vegetable-hating kid waxes rhapsodic over carrots, you know they do sides beautifully. My husband's red cabbage tasted like the healthiest comfort food imaginable. It was a great way to close out our Vail trip.

We love this restaurant and go here most Sundays for lunch. The only complaint is the veal in the goulash can be very fatty at times. Other times it is great.

Husband and my friend both had schnitzel special and loved it. I had rack of lamb and asked for pink center and it was served raw looking they took it back and seared it, but it was not as good looking as before . looked microwave. Brussels sprouts were extremely vinegary and I left most of them on the plate since I do not like vinegar Brussels sprouts. overall, the outdoor patio was an ok dinner choice. I forgot to mention we had a caesar salad before and I would give it a C. extremely mediocre , bottle dressing caesar, and I would not recommend.
go if you like schnitzel. FYI in the summer the antlers room is not available.

We were happy to share the Pepi's experience with our out-of-state guests. Favorite dishes were pork shank - so tender and flavorful! Kaesspaetzele mit zwiebel is a long-time fave😊 Melinda did a great job taking care of our group of six. 😊

The food just doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be. The host or maitre d wasn't particularly friendly or warm and was actually a bit sarcastic. The veal was overcooked quite a bit. The waiter was okay but not particularly friendly or Warm. Seemed a bit too serious and on the snotty side. Ovèr all the experience response was not as expected.

We have been coming here for 47 years. Love Pepi's, but it has changed over time. Higher prices- but not much in return. Recipes seem to have changed - the beef stroganoff was not like it used to be and not very tasty and even my grilled peach salad for $16 would be about $10 elsewhere- with only 3 small slivers of peaches. Hopefully, we will get the old Pepi's next time. Will return as it is a special place for us and we love sitting on the terrace and enjoying Vail.

my parents started going to pepi's over 40 years ago. my father moved to colorado from 'the old country' because he loved skiing and being near the rocky mountains. everything I've tried is tasty but my favorite is the jaegerschnitzel (sp) crispy coating, tender meat, a creamy mushroom sauce complemented by spaetzel and red cabbage that is the perfect sweet-sour side.

Pepi's is a German restaurant in Vail and has been there a long time. I have eaten at some fine German restaurants over the years and this is not one of them. The location is great, the appointments good as well as service. The food is the problem.
