Pepi's Restaurant & Bar
I've lived in Austria so I know I'm extra critical. In general the food was not up to Austrian standard. Kraut and red cabbage was below par. Schnitzel is much better at the Austrian chain Wienerwald. Bratwurst is the same as Safeway in my own frying pan. On the positive side, Hungarian goulash was exceptional with an authentic sauce. Johannesbeerkuchen was also amazing. Waitress was unengaging and inattentive.
We had the jagerschnitzel and weinerschnitzel with sides of spaetzle, braised cabbage and broccolini. Everything was excellent, as well as the apple strudel for dessert. Great service by Luis. Highly recommended for the authenticity of the German dishes.
Happened to eat here during Vail’s restaurant week so they had some specials for $20.19 . I had the Wienerschnitzel and my husband had the goulash. Wienerschnitzel and my husband had the goulash Both outstanding. We also split a beet salad which was fantastic and an apple strudel which came with A scoop of ice cream and whip cream it was delicious
I’ve been dining at Pepi’s for many years and while the food was good and the atmosphere is quaint the service was not up to it’s usual standard. We had to ask several times for bread; I asked for pepper when my appetizer was served but didn’t get it until I was almost finished with my main course. It took a long time to get our drinks and our server seemed distracted and overwhelmed even though it wasn’t that busy.
Pepi's Restaurant is our most favorite restaurant in Vail which hasmany great restaurants. Great food and service.
2 bad experiences in 1 day! Lunch- extremely poor service - and waiter was not familiar with the menu. Got one order completely wrong (brought goulash instead of the ordered brat!) and the others items were cold (spatzle and soup) and the bread hard as a rock...Dinner (2nd chance?)- Better service (however when I told the hostess that I was cold at our table, she replied that she was fine...) Gnocchi was like rubber...truly inedible...other items were only so-so. We are used to eating in Antlers - we had no idea the regular restaurant was so poor. Overpriced, bad service, subpar food. . Might be the end of the season, but guests should be able to expect quality at any time of year. We will not go back or recommend.
We always enjoy the great food at Pepi’s. He will be missed
A local gem that we always visit when in the valley. German food, nice bar, great people watching during the summer when seated on the patio area.
Excellent food and great service. A must if you like German / Austrian food.
The food was delicious. The waitstaff was pleasant but did not know much about the wines and how they paired with the food.
Pepi's is a staple for us in Vail. This was our first visit since Pepi passed away this summer. Sad in many ways, but Pepi's lives on and is incredible!
The food is pretty good but the server was clueless and not friendly or helpful.
While Pepi’s Is an iconic restaurant in the heart of Vail Village, the food was mediocre and the service average. I had Wienerschnitzel that was so dry and tasteless, I could have been eating shoe leather. The only thing Pepi’s delivered on was the patio atmosphere.
The entrees were excellent. We had the elk and the caribou. The steak tartare was a large portion and very good. We got there a little early, 5:15 and asked to be seated at our table and sat there for twenty minutes until someone came by. The bread at the beginning was tough and probably microwaved. The desert, Apple Streudel was a little tough and probably at least a day old. The waiter tried but appeared to be new.
We were there on Labor Day and they probably did not have their best team working.
The day before we went to the food and wine festival and their dish was by far the best. This was the reason that we came back.
Good food good service
Salmon was fantastic! Schnitzel was mediocre. Service was great. Loud music was unpleasant.
I have been coming to Pepi's since the 80's mostly for the Austrian cuisine. Unfortunately both the food and service quality keeps going down.
The servers during the last 2 visits have been absent-minded and forgot the appetizers or failed to refill the drinks. They seem to be using a different meat for the schnitzels that are not as tender as before. The salads aren't as fresh.
I am seriously thinking about not going back after so long.
Food was very good. My wife and I had the Goulash soup as an appetizer and then the Steak Tartare as our main dish. The Steak Tartare was excellent. That dish was the main reason we went there. The service was not good. Our waitress (Ingrid) need to go to charm school and learn how to be friendly. How she slammed the beers and the food on our table was pretty bad.
I don’t think we will go back.
this is a great place to eat in Vail. The food, service and atmosphere are all exceptional.
Pepi's is an institution at Vail. They had live music on the patio and it was very pleasant.
Always enjoy their patio dinning!
Wonderful Bavarian experience our waitress the food and a wonderful view would return
Always a must place to eat while in Vail. Great viewing from the outside area. The best waitstaff in the area. Good to see the owners eating there.
It was our anniversary and we have come before to Pepi’s for lunch and/or dinner. The food was very good as usual. I love German food but do not eat veal or fish. Most of the entree choices were veal. Would like to see pork as a substitute. Otherwise very good experience!
Excellent live music and great food always!
The most Germanic here are the waitresses uniforms. If your looking for a meal of German food you won’t find it here. There are better choices in Vail....although maybe not with a Germanic flavor.
Plates seem to have shrunk over the years, but the food is still good. The prices are still high, but the location is excellent.
Good European ambiance with moderately priced Austrian style cuisine. Service was ok. But this is a piece of Vail history that endures.
The entertainment was much too loud.
I sat as far away as possible. Theta would not seat us in-the dining room.
My service was excellent. Attentive
Strudel great. JagerSnitzle very good. .
Good and view was amazing. Quick and friendly service too!! Loved it!
A frequent stop of mine in vail, food is wonderful our server was obnoxious and didn’t let us order or talk.
Excellent restaurant. We will dine there again.
Dependable and delicious every time. Can't wait to go back!
We sat inside because of rain. Outside would have been nicer (not restaurants fault obviously). We had a 7:30 show to get to (10min wall away) and our reservations were at 5:30pm. We arrived early (5pm) to make sure we wouldn't be rushed. Even though I checked in with someone at 5pm, when 5:30pm hit they started seating people who didn't even have a reservation first. Once we sat down, it took forever to get food. We got our food about 6:45pm and then had to rush to eat to make sure we could make our show. It was very expensive, but only OK food. We ate at several Vail restaurants while there and they were all better.
Always enjoy the food and ambiance of this Vail classic. The schnitzel dishes and Idaho trout are outstanding. Desserts classic and delicious. Will return again!
We come to Pepis every summer...however, this year we were stuffed inside the dining room....we prefer the patio as it's much more roomy... The food arrived quickly...the drinks not so much. Always a treat!
Excellent food. Prompt friendly service. Exceptional value during restaurant week.
We are locals who have lived in the valley for 40+ years. This was out first dinner at Pepi’s, we invited friends from Denver. The food was wonderful and It was nice to see the owners having a quiet diner in the corner overlooking the main dining room. The wait staff were personable and spoke with us as if we had dined with them for years! Christian provided excellent service and Mikaela is a jewel! Thank you for a great evening!
The dining room is lovely and our server, Andi was excellent. Good food an
Enjoyed the food
