Penn Taproom Ratings and Reviews
Although we had used open table to make the reservation, Penn Taproom had no record of it. Apparently online reservations are tracked differently by them and there was an oversight in noting our reservation. We had to wait about an hour for a table to open up. Staff was not very apologetic for the oversight. I think most restaurants would have offered a drink while waiting given that the wait was completely their fault. They initially told us it would be a 15-minute wait so it didn't seem to be a big deal but an hour is excessive. If we go there again, I will call in my reservation.
Met there for lunch with 3 friends, the waitress was wonderful and she was very helpful assisting us with our meal selections.
The food was fantastic.
The only problem came from 2 moms with young children who were allowed to run, yell and sit at or hide behind any table there was & with a mom yelling at them from the other end of the outdoor patio.
This was the fault of these 2 women not the restaurant.
Being a parent myself this should not have happened. These women wanted to enjoy their lunch out and not care about anyone else. Not the other dinners or the employees that had to keep climbing over these children.
Like I said we all had a very nice lunch minus the above mentioned problem.
Great patio area, cool even on Sumner days. Good drink menu and lots of good menu options. Went with the waitresses suggestion and got the Spicy State St burger. Good burger but was not spicy at all. My big negative was the service. I was there eating alone (business travel) amongst other families and couples and apparently that made me invisible. I ordered a beer at the same time of my food. My food came and still didn't have a drink, had to ask another waitress to bring it to me. Never saw my waitress again until she showed to pick up my credit card and check (had to ask someone else for the check itself) a lot could ha w factored into this but would still go back to give them another try.
I met a friend here for dinner on a very hot Tuesday evening. We had a reservation. The outdoor area was surprisingly cool since it is shady. The chairs are quite uncomfortable, leaning back way too far, but it was nice to sit outside. Our server greeted us promptly with ice water and took our drink order. I don't drink beer, but my friend does and was impressed by the long list available. I had a glass of wine that was nice. The menu is typical American pub food and entrees. We each opted for dinner salads. They were fine, nothing fantastic, but nothing to complain about. Definitely overpriced, but that's the area ($20 for a salad with salmon). I would go again for the patio, but having dined inside previously, I wouldn't choose it at other times of the year or in inclement weather. There are many better options in Doylestown for dining, but if you want a beer and a burger, this is a great spot.
Above was extremely slow. My 5 year old word 20 mins for a lemonade, we only received 2 table settings and waited 5 minutes for napkins (well after the food arrived.)
We had a veggie burger which was one of the worst I have ever had, fish and chips, worn very heavy breading, not light and fluffy and bland cheese quesadillas. We will not be back.
Nice place. Good service. Food was good. BUT... We had to climb up a full flight of stairs to the dining room. The stairs are narrow, steep, and precarious. First floor is the bar. I would not like to do that on a regular basis.
Had lunch here with my sister. The food was really good, loads of great beers to choose! Just watch out for the stairs! We are no longer young, the stairs were a surprise. We made it up and down though and had a lovely lunch. It was easy to chat together, and bar downstairs was hardly noticeable.
Went with a group of 6 friends from college. Sat outside since it was one of the last nights nice enough to eat outside. Good beer selection. Got wings and cheese steak egg-rolls. Both were great. A bit pricey, but expected for downtown Doylestown. All but 1 got the Spicy State Street Burger. The burger was awesome. Not really that spicy, but really good. We will definitely be back for that burger.
We took our kids 7 & 2 to the Tap Room on a Sunday night. It was great. The outside seating area is so nice, our server was really helpful when we had a few menu questions. Our food was good. I had the pull pork sandwich and my husband had the fish tacos. We would definitely go back.
We ate outside, beautiful night. We went here because for a family of 5 the rest of the places downtown with outside seating get expensive. Everyone enjoyed their meals except for me, I got caprese salad and it was bland, tomatoes had zero flavor (you think in peak of summer they would use locally grown). Other than that if you are looking for outside dining, good food and reasonably priced in the heart of doylestown, this is a great choice
Most likely, the only good thing about our experience here was the outside seating. It was big, open space, the weather was nice, and being able to sit and watch doylestown was very nice. Regarding the food, there wasn't a very big selection of wraps which is what I was looking forward to. The fish tacos I had gotten were underseasoned and the guacamole was flavorless. The service was terrible. Our waitress was missing the entire time and when she did stop and ask us how our food was, she was just only passing by, and didn't even bother to stop and give her full attention. After that, we didn't see her and had to ask a random waiter for our check, telling him that we hadn't seen our waitress and he came back just to tell us our waitress was busy doing side work. The service was terrible, the food was subpar. Only thing I'd recommend of this place is the seating.
We were very excited for a night out, enjoying a beautiful night in Doylestown. We had requested outdoor seating, and in our on-line Open Table reservation asked to be notified if that could not be accommodated. Upon checking in with the outdoor hostess, we were promptly scolded and told that reservations from Open Table were for indoor only and she very grumpily found us a table outside. It took a while for a server to come over. Drinks were not great and when I asked for muddled cucumber and mint (listed on other drinks) the drink arrived with big chunks of both that easily came up through the straw and needed to be chewed. The food was surprisingly tasty. I guess I would say, it's fine for a night out, but not a nice night out.
Food is nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about. Outside patio is nice but it was chilly so we dined in the dining room. It is upstairs. Waitress was friendly and helpful. Wine was very overpriced (bottle). The reason I have eaten here more than a couple times is because it is open Monday's. Not a lot of places are.
Outstanding cafe type dining. The outdoor patio is welcoming. Although on a busy street, the patio area is not overwhelmed with street noise. The quality of the food is exceptional while the prices are reasonable. Our friends from Montreal were quite taken with the restaurant and were somewhat surprised to find such a cosmopolitan atmosphere in a small town.
We took our daughter here for an after-graduation lunch and were not disappointed. After an initial delay in finding someone to seat us, we were able to choose from both the brunch and standard menus which had mostly standard choices (steak, chicken veal, pasta, salads appetizers) but turned out to be excellently done. All of us commented on how much we enjoyed our lunch and my daughter liked the look of the bar area enough (not populated at this time given early Sunday afternoon) that she wants to come back to check out the bar scene. Overall, I'd highly recommend Metro North to anyone looking for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience.
This was our first time going to Penn Taproom and we had an awesome time. The food was great and so was the beer. We started at the bar and then headed upstairs to our table. The whole place has a great vibe. Our waitress was awesome, attentive but not smothering. I will definitely be going back and I would recommend this place to others.
