Pretty Location, hard to park, Food was Good, Stuffy Air about, and waiter was at best stuffy, I felt he was self righteous and felt he was better than us. Will not return for that reason. On a positive note, by far the best Coconut Cake Ever. If yon try this place out, save room its a MUST!!
Wonderful dining experience.
Very stately, inviting , dim light, charming dinner atmosphere, one of the nicest dining environments we have enjoyed in 30 years of marriage. Food lived up to the reputation. Famous coconut cake is a must way to end what will be an unforgettable dining experience.
Elegant room, friendly, knowledgeable staff and excellent food. The wine list is full of great wines, fairly priced. Lovely evening.
Excellent food and service. The coconut cake was amazing!
A perfect experience for our first time. One of the highlights of our trip.
Our server Daniel was wonderful. We were there for our 25th anniversary and the entire experience from setting foot in the door to dessert felt celebratory. We plan to go back for our next special occasion
After 4 previous dining visits ...all 5 star dining dinners. But this visit was a very expensive letdown. Must say the new chefs needs help .... most dishes were bland and over priced for the size served. Also you can’t see what your eating do to the very dim lighting. The wine list needs to be up dated. Hope the some one in management can step and help this great restaurant .
Peninsula Grill remains our go-to restaurant when visiting Charleston. The level of service, creative cooking and overall ambience is unmatched.
Could not have been better. Oysters and pork chop were incredible!
my all time favorite charleston restaurant. hadn't been there for years, but, things were as good as ever, particularly the coconut cake!!!!! charley did an excellent job taking care of us. bass & scallops were excellent, but the duck, in my opinion at least, took top honors. no complaints, except of having to park in nowhereland, but that's par for the course. uber, here we come
The prime ribeye was mostly fat and gristle. Not worth the price. We should have sent it back;
They make you feel like a queen and the food is terrific. Great portions and seasonings. Having the 7-layer coconut cake is a must and a tradition in Charleston. Enjoy!
Birthday dinner for long-time friend. Once online and again on day of reservation requested friend’s birthday wish have her name on plate. Did not happen! Also, my husband and I asked if the coconut cake we ordered could be on two plates. Was told “of course”. Extra plates were brought to table, however, I had to split the cake and place on plates. I feel a four-star restaurant should at least have a server split the cake at table and not the customer! We live here and can go anywhere and get this service or better. Pay attention to the little things which separate you from the pack. You might make five-star one day!
I was in Charleston a couple of years ago and ate at Peninsula Grill. The scallops were just as wonderful as I remembered. The deserts are decadent.
Peninsula Grill is always terrific---just sorry it wasn't warm enough to sit in the lovely garden.
It was so noisy and so crowded that we had trouble talking. The waiters had to squeeze themselves between the tables to serve. The waiter's still did an excellent job, it was just awkward. The closeness of tables and noise level were uncomfortable for a nice night out.
From the moment that we were greeted at the restaurant to the moment that we left the service was wonderful. The food was amazing. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the pairings were impeccably chosen
We dined here to celebrate my birthday. The service and the food were spectacular! And of course there was coconut cake for dessert...
Overall experience couldn’t have been better. Without hesitation I can say my meal was one of my most satisfying I have ever had.
It was lovely.
Great place to take my spouse for her birthday, great food, outstanding service nice ambiance.
Loved it! Amazing service and wonderful old school ambiance.
Great food, great atmosphere in a charming city. What more could you ask for.
The food was amazing. Compliments to the chef and his staff. The service was excellent and the atmosphere great. The food is expensive but very worth it. Really enjoyed and would return for special occasions.
Exceptional service and an amazing menu. We will definitely return! For the quality of the food and service, we thought it was a good value compared to other fine dining in Charleston.
This white table cloth restaurant has wonderful attentive service. The food is excellent and the plate presentation eye catching. Your water glass is always full and each course begins with clean silverware and a new napkin if needed. The birthday dessert was superb and Happy Birthday message written in chocolate was lovely.
As always dining at the Peninsula Grill is a real treat. The ambiance is romantic, the service is impeccable, the food sublime, and that Ultimate Coconut Cake is exactly that. I would not change a thing about this restaurant.
The food and service were excellent the misses and I went on a long overdue romantic dinner and got blown away by the meal and the setting very pricey but well worth it
Fantastic dining experience. The food and service was fabulous. Everything was expertly prepared and the service flawless.
We loved this restaurant when we were here 7 years ago. It is part of a Relais & Chateaux property, so this time we also stayed as guests in the hotel. We ate here twice. Both meals were good, but not outstanding. Servers were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and good with adjustments for food intolerances. Nice decor. Small but very nice bar. Friendly and knowledgeable bartender. Nice champagne offerings. Service is better if you eat in the main dining room, rather than at a table in the bar. Would recommend and return, but also felt that there were other restaurants in Charleston with more innovative food offerings and with better value.
Great evening! Waitress was awesome.
Ribeye was tough, filet was wonderful, 12 layer coconut cake was really good. Not worth the $$. I’ve had much better at Poogan’s Porch.
We celebrated our 25th anniversary here, at the recommendation of our concierge. Good food, nice atmosphere, a bit pricey but worth a try. Key lime cheesecake is a must!
My husband & I chosse this restaurant for a special honeymoon date. Best date ever! We enjoyed everything! The staff went above and beyond, made us feel special. Charlie our waitress was Awesome! So sweet!!
We dined at Peninsula Grill for our anniversary, the dining room was a lovely cosy spot for the occasion, with dim lighting and a romantic atmosphere. My husband had the lobster three ways for a starter, he said it was incredible, as was my winter squash bisque. He had a steak for entree and I had the chicken, which was probably some of the best chicken I've ever had, perfectly cooked and with a delicious jus. Goats cheese potatoes on the side were also fantastic. And the coconut cake for dessert - a must try. The kitchen piped 'Happy anniversary' in chocolate on the plate which was a nice touch. Probably a good idea to share the cake for dessert, it is rather large! The service was faultless, but we had expected that based on other reviews.
A note on attire - we dressed up for the evening, especially considering the restaurant suggests that a jacket is preferred for gentlemen, however I did notice that some people took a more relaxed approach and even saw a few people in hooded sweatshirts. Just thought I would mention that, as I personally struggled to find accurate information on the dress code prior, and I felt rather more 'dressed up' than others and it seemed to be a mixed bag in terms of attire.
We eat at the Peninsula Grill at least once a year when we visit Charleston and love the upscale environment. They have, however, lapsed in their dress standards. We saw t-shirts and denims, thus making the Peninsula unspecial, more like other mediocre area restaurants. I doubt we will go there again unless they set standards and keep them.
Fantastic meal in great surroundings. Service was fantastic with some excellent recomendations. Coconut layer cake is worth the visit on its own.
Absolutely wonderful as new visitors to Charleston
When you stay at accommodations like Planters Inn where the rates are $450+ there comes a higher degree of expectation. Peninsula Grill failed to reach such expectations on my recent visit. The ambiance was great however that was quickly tempered by lackluster inattentive service. We ordered she-crab soup that was served cool. That was followed by my New York Strip which was ordered at a medium rare temp only to be served well done. All of this would have been more tolerable if our pdrinks from the bar would have been refilled as requested but this too proved challenging. As for me next time I’ll stick with Grill 225 which always lives up to expectations and is only steps away.
