Excellent evening. Food wonderful and service outstanding. We will come back. Soft shell crab was yummy and couldn’t leave without having dessert. The famous coconut cake is out of this world.
The entire experience was outstanding! Our meal was delicious and the service was among the best we’ve ever had.
Excellent service...food was phenomenal!
Every body love the restaurant
Great food and service at this upscale place in the heart of the historic district
The food and service was excellent. Make sure to save room ( if possible )for the coconut cake!
Always go to Charleston for the culinary experience, but this was my first time at Peninsula Grill. By far the best food and dining experience I've ever had. So upset I hadn't been there sooner! It is the first reservation I'll be making for my bi-annual visits to Charleston.
Great food and service. Everything was outstanding.
Overall, an amazing evening! The room was beautiful, food was absolutely delicious and service was impeccable!! We are from NY and have been to many fine restaurants in NY and in other parts of the country but truly enjoyed this fine dining with such southern hospitality. Jonathan, our server, was so professional and wonderful. Made our evening at Peninsula Grill even more special. The coconut cake was a perfect way to end our evening!
My wife and I enjoyed a very nice dinner with excellent service. A great choice for her Birthday. Just a heads up: Be prepared for a pricey meal.
Anniversary dinner was great!
Beautiful location for a special occasion! Our server, Taylor, was friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. She made great menu suggestions. The food, from the She crab soup, snapper, soft shell crabs to The Ultimate Coconut cake, was superb.
I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the US and I'd have to put the Peninsula Grill it the top 12.
Excellent food and amazing service.
We've been coming here off and on from Dallas for over 15 years, and Peninsula is
ALWAYS the best in town. Service, food, and the overall dining experience is top notch.
Good but not great. Too crowded and hectic to be really enjoyable. The food was very good but not up to the level I’d expected based on it’s reputation.
Service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious. Make sure to finish with the coconut cake! Highly recommend!
Oysters on the half shell were very good. A member of the party ate the duck and really enjoyed it. The side of goat cheese mashed potatoes were tasty. The gin blossoms cocktail was the best thing on the menu. But the vegetarian offerings were NOT great. The chef’s salad was banal. Literally no main course (only sides) vegetarian dish on the menu. The vegetarian special was “perloo”- an overpriced, super bland rice pilaf with cooked vegetables mixed in. A rice pilaf was the best they could offer as a vegetarian main course- that’s pitiful. Then we ate their $12 slice of coconut cake-specialty of the house (totally skippable). It was wet, not moist- reminiscent of a Mexican milk cake. (I have eaten much better coconut cake).Service was stellar. But $$$$$ food was really not across the board great. Vegetarians should not eat here.
Very nice time. Great courtyard outside the restaurant and great service and food.
Awesome wine list!
Justin and the other waitstaff were ultra professional and personable, —soft shell crab, swordfish, triggerfish were all excellent! A bit noisy but not uncomfortably so—great dinner and will return next year!
I always try to eat at the Peninsula Grill when I visit Charleston because the food is outstanding. This past week's visit was disappointing, however, because service was very slow and the noise was absolutely deafening. It seemed like there were more tables crowded together than usual, or it might have been my imagination since everyone near us was screaming to be heard over everyone else. Also, why still say that jackets are preferred when so many diners were in shorts? Next time I visit, I'll request a booth in the bar area if reservations are accepted there.
The Peninsula Grill is, without a doubt, the best restaurant in Charleston. This is our second visit and it did not disappoint. The menu is broad, the service top notch and the food...absolutely delicious. Be sure to save room for the coconut cake.
Awesome food - service was a little slower than prior visit but they were vet busy. Noise level was really only negative- last time it was much quieter. Would highly recommend! We had a birthday celebration and thy decorated plate without prompting. Very nice!
Exactly as advertised- highly recommend. The wine list is world class.
Really great place. Special treat to go. She crab soup is out of this world! Soft shelled were wonderful as well
Sophistication with an inviting and courteous staff!
Visiting Charleston and just as excellent ad it was six years ago
This place was absolutely beautiful inside. And the food was out of this world. I had ordered the scallops and was not disappointed in any way. Definitely save room for coconut cake too. It literally came out ever 10 seconds while we were there. And was so delicious. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful, the food did take a little long, but I did appreciate his honesty in coming to let us know that was kitchen was behind and he did check up on us very consistently. Would recommend to anyone for any occasion. Would have eaten twice in a row, so many options on the menu. Will definitely be back.
Elegant and service oriented, our visit to the Peninsula Grill was wonderful. Try the Paper Plane, or a great champagne, at the bar. The sommelier was very knowledgeable. Dinner was superb with melt-in-you-mouth steaks and luscious sides. Don't miss their famous coconut cake.
The ambiance was perfect. Great service. They have the best coconut cake in the world!
Not sure if I would recommend. Our server was very nice but frequently disappeared when you needed him. Their version of the wedge was tasty but half of it were the dark green outside leaves that were not cold & crisp. The soft shell crabs were very large and tasty but served on limp undressed greens . I had requested fresh lemon for the soft shells since there was no dressing of any kind on either the crabs or greens, did not receive lemon till almost done with a strong apology. I had asked the server if I should order a side vegetable and he said it wasn't necessary and describe the greens quite differently then they actually were. Of course the coconut cake was as good as ever.
The service was outstanding, but for the cost the food was mediocre.
Too expensive, not enough menu choices. Fantastic bar and drinks.
Lovely dining room with great service.
This is the complete dining experience. From the personalized wine selection to the amazing people who work there, this is a must for those who want to really enjoy what Charleston has to offer.
Whole family enjoyed. Salad was great, husband said scallops were best on this trip, end kids liked the steaks. Glad they offered a kids menu choice of a 4 oz filet for our youngest.
The food was wonderful, excellent service and a great place to celebrate an anniversary.
Excellent experience in an elegant atmosphere. Food was delicious including the famous coconut cake! Great place to dine with friends.
