Fantastic first time experience here! We went for our anniversary and could not have asked for a more romantic or delicious meal!
It used to be some place special: a destination restaurant with local roots and global aspirations. We’ve been many times over the years, and it’s been on a steady glide path downward for years: the backwaiters aren’t as attentive, the menu doesn’t shout fresh, local and delicious to the same degree and even your fellow diners mostly look (and smell) like they wandered in straight off the 18th green.
Food was exceptional; service was a little slow but I think our server was new and she was super pleasant so it was not a big deal ; fabulous find in Charleston
We were on an anniversary/birthday holiday in Charleston. I think this place is incredible! The food flavor was fabulous and our server knew so much. Charleston is a place for foodies, but this was the best for me.
It was fabulous! We loved our table, our server was excellent and the food was outstanding. It was our first time dining there and we hope to return.
everything was perfect; all request were met; the food was impeccable; the service outstanding
We had an awesome dinner & were served by an excellent staff! I will definitely be back.
It was the best dining experience we had in Charleston!
Perfect birthday dinner!
Incredible food and excellent service! It is definitely a restaurant for special occasions.
The food and service is excellent. This is a 5 star restaurant.
Everything was wonderful from the she crab soup to the ultimate coconut cake! The service was impeccable! What a wonderful place to have a date night!
Food was outstanding. They did a great job with locally sourced foods. Coconut cake is still favorite.
Daniel was an excellent waiter! We enjoyed a delicious meal and evening there. A new favorite for us in Charleston! We will be back!
Peninsula Grill is the best dining experience....anywhere. We have dined here many times over several years, and each visit is better than the last. The personal service is outstanding, the steak and seafood are always perfectly prepared, and the staff make us feel as if we are their special guests for the evening. If you eat earlier, it is more of a family vibe, but by around 8:00, it is dressier, adult, and an elegant place to have a cocktail or a fine dinner. And as always, the coconut cake is the ultimate dessert!
We had one of the most memorable meals of this year at the Penisula Grill at the Planters Inn in South Carolina. Probably the best restaurant in the city and the state of South Carolina. Impeccable Service. Outstanding wine list and excellent choices. The Lobster three ways as an appetizer should not be missed. The duck breast was outstanding, moist and succulent. And of course the world famous coconut cake is as good as advertised. Dinner was excellent. Worth the trip
Lovely setting and superb service made for a wonderful evening and great memories. The food is outstanding and beautifully presented. We both had different cuts of steak which were excellent. Nice that they had several different selections of sauce to choose from. Of course, we had to try the coconut cake and it is extremely moist and delicious! Too much really for one person to eat. We also ordered the ice cream sundae and would highly recommend that as well. We had some loud patrons at the table beside us which did make the noise level higher than it may normally be. Would highly recommend including this restaurant on your next Charleston itinerary.
Fabulous food, just exceptional! Beautiful ambiance, incredible service!
Excellent food with very good service.
The outdoor patio was very pleasant and beautifully decorated.
The service and quality of food is the best Charleston has to offer. We had the Halibut special and the Scallops, it was so good. Neither myself nor my wife like coconut, but their coconut cake is the best ever! This was why we had Peninsula Grill make our wedding cake!
We had the most amazing 50th-anniversary dinner. Everybody was so kind, thoughtful and just so welcoming. I say "you must go to Peninsula Grill".
Best service ever! I eat out alot and this staff is superb. Great food with very good presentation.... seldom will you find food as good.... You won’t find better. We were celebrating the engagement of my step-daughter and we ordered 3 different desserts so we could all try a bit. All the dessert plates had “congratulation” written in chocolate. My step daughter was delighted! This was a dining experience, not just a meal. We were there 2.5 hours (only felt like one) and never were we waiting on anything. We were either drinking, nibbling on bread or appetizers, enjoying the first course, entree’ , dessert or coffee. Every course was placed with perfect timing to make the event flow perfectly. So glad we decided to visit this place!
Dinner at the Peninsula Grill was a great experience. The food was excellent and creative. Service and attentiveness all around were very good.
My husband and I got away for a rare date night and it could not have been more perfect. The food, service, and ambiance were superb!
The service was impeccable from the bartender to our server, JoAnne everyone one was remarkably customer oriented and attended to our very need.
We were disappointed in the strip steak special; the meat was chewy with cartilage and grizzle through it. Not to the level of a $50 dinner. It was cooked perfectly, rare as requested. The shrimp were tasty but small. My scallops with shrimp dish was delicious. The oysters rockerfeller appetizer was delicious but luke warm. The best part of the meal was the delectable coconut cake. This is our third visit so we’ll try again another time.
We had a delicious Anniversary dinner while on a quick trip to Charleston. I have food allergies and must be gluten and dairy free. They were able to modify the scallops so it maintained the integrity of the chef’s vision and was delicious and special for me. I also got to eat a delicious gf roll. My husband really enjoyed the lobster trio and the famous coconut cake! The whole night was fabulous and would definitely recommend it.
Restaurant was within walking distance to our Inn, which was a prime consideration. Knew that the Peninsula Grill was one of top ten restaurants in Charleston. Food was fabulous. Both of us had the appetizer salad special, a combo of homemade ricotta cheese (to die for), topped with tomatoes, sliced peaches & pickled red onion slices and served with a honey balsamic dressing. Since we are from Connecticut, swordfish is one of our favorites but we have been very disappointed with the swordfish served in the south. We decided to go with the grilled swordfish for our entree and could not have been more pleased. It was a wonderful piece of fish, grilled and seasoned to perfection. We will definitely recommend the Peninsula Grill to our friends and will look forward to dining there again
A bit too quiet and stuffy for my taste, but the food and service was awesome!
We thouroughly enjoyed our evening at the Peninsula Grill. Service from all the staff was exceptional from beginning to end. Our meals were incredible! And the Coconut Cake was outstanding as well as huge. Enough to share and bring some home for breakfast. This was a wonderful Anniversary celebration!
Steak was perfection, finished off with coconut cake that was delicious.
We were in town and ate at several restaurants- this was the worse and most expensive, did not live up to the expectations. Nor did they seem to care. First two courses were good. Took 20 min for last course. Fish was overlooked and the ribeye ($45) was thin and chewy. All other restaurants we ate at were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and delishes. They seemed overwhelmed and acted as though they did not care- very DISAPPOINTING.
We were very disappointed in the dress code allowed at the last true “dress-up” fine dining venue in Charleston. We wore jackets as always, and noted restaurants jacket request on website. We were sat next to a table where the gentlemen wore shorts, tennis shoes and a short sleeve shirt worn outside their shorts, and the women were in shorts and sleeveless blouses. Before we left, a group came in with the gentlemen wearing blue jeans, flip flops and colorful shirts worn outside the pants. The ladies wore inappropriate shorts and very casual jumpers.
We understand economics, but do we always have to lower our standards to the tourists? Next we will be next to men wearing cut off tee shirts! For almost $400, we expected higher standards. Food is delicious and very well prepared and service is always superb.
Amazing food and service and atmosphere. You won’t be disappointed
Went to celebrate our 30th Anniversary. Waiter was excellent, wine was great, my wife had the scallops and raved about them, I had the chefs special and it was incredible. Topped off with some creme Brule and this was one of my top five dining experiences ever. Well done Peninsula Grill.
Overall 5 star as usual! Have had many special occasions here and never disappointed.
So many excellent restaurants in Charleston, but Peninsula Grill is always one notch above! Dining there is a special treat that my husband and I look forward to when we visit. The food, service and atmosphere make it a memorable experience!
Everything was incredible from the beginning to the end. Service is 100%. Food is amaaaaaazing. Ambiance is so peaceful. Highly recommended.
We celebrated our 45th anniversary at The Peninsula Grill. Jonathan was our waiter and he was fabulous! Many staff people catered to us through the evening! The chef even sent a complimentary taste of Grouper Cevice to our table! The She Crab soup was delicious!
