Peninsula Grill Ratings and Reviews
Charleston is known for its great food and The Peninsula is always at the top of the list for dinner. It never disappoints. Even with every table full, the velvet padded walls provide the absolute best ambiance for hearing your waiter and your dining companions but not voices from other tables.
So, let's talk about food. The menu is, well, a menu - that is, it actually describes the food without the necessity of the waitstaff having to interpret the usual "restaurant speak." The food is beautifully prepared and presented and is just as delicious as it should be from a top tier restaurant.
Great wine list, too.
Would return in a minute - terrific meal and lovely ambiance for a birthday dinner. And, who can forget the famous 12 layer coconut cake! (Really want to go back for that and to try some of the other awesome-looking desserts).
Seafood fantastic and service excellent, what a treat!
Have been frequently this restaurant for 20 years whenever I visited the city. I was surprised how the menu had declined in offerings with very little exciting items. Trout seemed to be the item of the day....do they catch Trout near Charleston? She Crab Soup, Baked Oysters and Coconut Cake were wonderful. Avoid the steaks as they were average at best. Service was as good as it has ever been.
Tab with tip at $235 could have been better spent.
This is a lovely restaurant and in warmer weather the garden area seating is gorgeous. The service is impeccable but almost too attentive. Depends on what you like . The dinner menu is diverse and delectable. Perfect for special occasions.
Tho I've lived here for years, this was my first time at PG. I was amazed: the food was exquisite (even my vegan requested veggie plate), the service invisible but perfect, the server himself charming and friendly without being annoying, and the experience asa whole wonderful for my out of town friends. The decor: dated and dark, but o.k. Can't wait to go back.
Overall was an excellent experience. Only major problem was the layout as we sat on the wall the tables around us were extremely close leaving very little room for the servers to be able to effectively move around the room. Caused a lot of traffic jams around us. Other than that, excellent food, drink and service.
First, we were stuck in traffic and were going to be 30 minutes late for my wife’s birthday dinner but a call to the restaurant worked it out even on a very packed night.....thank you! Every morsel of food was delicious . Different flavors were blended for a delight to the taste buds. If I wanted to find some point of complaint it would be the saltiness of the chicken entree was a bit overpowering. My wife was not at all disappointed by the always fantastic coconut cake. Thank you again PG for a great evening.
Many of our friends have always recommended the Peninsula Grill. We finally decided to experience the restaurant for our anniversary. We stayed across the street at the French Quarter Inn. A short walk took us to the restaurant. Everything from the greeting at the front door to the very end was exceptional. Our waiter Jonathan was excellent. He took very good care of us and was eager to make sure we had a great dining experience. Now the food. In a few words, it was probably one of the very best meals that we have experienced in our 65 plus years on this planet. This is not a joke. The food was outrageously good. My wife and I were saying that we could not think of how the restaurant could have prepared our meals any better. We will definitely be back. Kudos to everyone at the PG who work so hard to make this happen.
My first experience at Peninsula Grill was this past Thanksgiving. What a wonderful restaurant to celebrate a special occasion like a holiday meal! The menu’s approach to cuisine is restrained, but the ingredients are the highest in quality and their handling is so expert, the lack of “adventure” or “surprise” is not missed. The restaurant’s famous coconut cake exceeds its accolades and is a must. The restaurant’s decor perfectly compliments the food. It is comfortable, tasteful, and elegant. The service is professional and responsive. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Food was amazing. A group of 8 and everyone was very pleased with their dishes. Service was excellent. Multiple servers were used so that for each course it was placed in front of all members of our group at the same time. No looking around to ensure all were served before starting 😃. Pricey but expected and absolutely no complaints.
