Peninsula Grill Ratings and Reviews
Was drawn to their attractive courtyard entrance while walking through Charleston earlier in the day, on a quick visit, and pretty-much decided that would be our dinner choice that evening. Was not disappointed! Some new flavors, for sure, added to my birthday eve experience...expertly handled by our waiter, Daniel, and a very professional service staff. From what I read, I knew the coconut cake would be the feather in the cap. I'm very glad we chose to dine at Peninsula Grill!
Food was very disappointing. When delivered neither the waiter or Maitre d' inquired if the meal was prepared properly and to our liking. One order was for the filet and we were not asked to check for proper cooking temperature. The lamb - same thing. Waiter did not even check by as our food was being delivered and placed on the table. Many staff including the Maitre d' walked by our table all during the meal but did not stop to ask if we were enjoying the meal or had other needs. Very disappointing compared to our experience several years ago
Stopped in on a quick trip to Charleston on a girl's weekend, had to try the Giant Coconut Cake that is famous. Shared an appetizer of the Lobster 3 Way (wish these were on the entree menu, they were delicious!)... Completed the night with the cake and Chocolate Peanut Butter Mousse, absolutely an unforgettable experience!
The only downside was the noise level, even at 9 o'clock at night it was extremely noisy not just the usual full restaurant noise.
Food and service are 5 star. Unfortunately they attract large groups - more than six - and there are often several large groups at the venue. There was a group of 12 and two or three eights when we were there. Imagine the noise. They could serve large groups in a separate room. Whatever the solution, the top ranked restruants in CHS should do something.
Great visit to Peninsula Grill. As always a wonderful experience and amazing food. Cannot go wrong with a visit to Peninsula Grill while visiting Charleston. If you are visiting Charleston and looking for an excellent fine dining experience, must make a visit here.
Another outstanding evening . Our special appetizers, oyster stew and poached pear salad, were indeed special. The signature scallop entree was as good as ever and the filet, with multiple sauce choices, was perfectly cooked. When we visit Charleston, we always book a table at Peninsula Grill.
a wonderful restaurant.... my Daughter and I had a wonderful meal ! The gentleman that seated us seemed to have an attitude, an air about him that I did not like. Our server was kind and wonderful but a bit of an air also. Everyone needs to calm down a bit and not be so stuffy !
My husband and I ate here while celebrating our anniversary. The courtyard seating was romantic and quaint. There was an induction ceremony being held in the courtyard so it got a little loud for a short while but it was over in about 20 minutes. It was much quieter then. Inside was a bit noisy so I recommend sitting outside if they have a table available. It’s first come first serve even if you have a reservation. The scallops were superb with chunks of lobster meat on top. My husband had the duck and it was amazing. We highly recommend Peninsula Grill while you are visiting Charleston. You won’t be disappointed.
Best dinner we had in Charleston. The service was wonderful, warm and friendly. The food was outstanding. We live in Manhattan so, we've been to many outstanding restaurants. The Peninsula Grill has been added to that list. Our plan is to go there whenever we're back in Charleston. If we had to pick only one place to eat, the Peninsula Grill would be our choice. Wouldn't have to think twice.
Our server never asked if we had any dietary restrictions or allergies. The taste from the kitchen was beef, I am a pescatarian. I had to ask for our water glass to be refilled. I ordered the special flounder. My fish was coated in so much flour, it overpowered the flavor of the flounder.
The Coconut cake was outstanding. My husband's duck dish was great. My She Crab soup was delicious as was my husband's tuna appetizer.
This was clearly a place where Charleston gathers. There were two tables where everyone in the restaurant kept stopping by to say hello and chat creating a grid lock in the passageways. Politicians? We were there to celebrate our husband's birthday. It was truly disappointing.
We were visiting Charleston for the weekend and had a lovely dinner here Saturday night. My husband had a bowl of she crab soup and I had the salad special to start. She crab soup was a new thing for us as we are from New England so my husband wanted to try it. He raved! We both had the scallops and they were excellent! Of course we split a piece of coconut cake and it definitely lived up to the hype! Lovely evening in a lovely setting, well done!
Spendy but well worth it. Entering through a peaceful inviting garden atrium you are led into a well appointed welcome area being greeted by name as you are escorted to your awaiting reserved table set exquisitely in anticipation of catering to your every culinary desire. Liquid libations are available in whatever form you wish and their international and domestic wine selection is impressive. The servers and assistants are attentive and inconspicuous. All implements, dishes and glassware are removed and replaced after each course seamlessly by individual serving assistants never once interrupting your conversation. Every course of whatever your dinner selection might be is prepared and presented impeccable. Best of all is the exquisite menu selection. Whatever you choose, be ready to have your senses aroused and your appetite quenched. Of course you should try their signature coconut cake for dessert. My wife, I and our two guests from California all agreed that Charleston's PENINSULA GRILL far exceeded our expectations.
Expensive, but worth it for a special occasion. We didn’t dine outside since it was a little chilly out, but it certainly looked nice. Also, it seemed a little loud indoors. Not a deal breaker, but not quiet by any stretch of the imagination. We visited to celebrate our anniversary, and a few days later we’re still talking about it. Save room for Coconut cake. It will not disappoint!
The Pennisula Grill is a consistently good "five star" restaurant located in a most perfect spot downtown. Located within The Planter's Inn (a Relais and Chateau property) it offers indoor and outdoor seating~ and adds the perfect completion to The Inn with meals designed to enjoy and satisfy even the most sophisticated and worldly diner.
The servers are attentive and friendly. Everything about The Pennisula Grill is done to perfection. Entrees range and offer all. Must end your evening with a slice of their famous "coconut cake"...enough to share for a table of 4!
I always order the roast salmon and choose one or two sides. Always cooked to perfection and melts in mouth. There are several sauces to choose from to complete the plate.
Pennisula Grill is one of my "go to" restaurants when dining downtown. Always a pleasurable evening and reminiscent of some great dining establishments found in Europe.
This was our choice for our 1 restaurant on a short trip through Charleston and the 3 of us were so glad we chose it! Very special restaurant experience! We asked to sit outdoors in their cozy romantic sparkling garden. Loved the ambience! The food was delicious. My filet was tender, tasty, and perfectly cooked. I ate every bite. My husband and friend both had fish and were very satisfied. My friend and I were very excited to see our most favorite wine, Rombauer Chardonnay, on the menu and it was good to the last drop. Of course we did split their famous coconut cake and all pronounced it fabulous. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. Hope we can come back!
