Superb food and service
Unbelievable from start to finish. Service, food and ambiance was amazing.
Had been to Pen Grill few years back and it seemed quite special. My wife got the halibut special. Was really quite good. I’d order the Snapper - unfortunately was a complete disappointment on a special evening. Fingerlings were HARD, the zucchini was well underdone, hard as well & I like a firm vegetable. A good deal of $ for such a poor dish. Justin was our server. We enjoyed him / he did a nice job. Perhaps things have deteriorated at PG. very disappointing!
We had a lovely anniversary dinner. Food and service were awesome!
It was awesome. Mark our waiter was fabulous.
Great food and good service ! The menu is very good with a nice variety and I like the wine list.
Nice evening !
Food and service were great! I had the sea scallops, outstanding! They came on a bed of risotto and lobster meat. So tender and the sauce was out of this world good. We had a side of asparagus, very tender, with pepper relish that was also delicious.
Tonight we celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Peninsula Grill and were delighted by the food and service we received. From the moment we arrived and with each interaction with the staff, not just our waiter, we were treated with grace and kindness. Our filets were perfect; the she-crab soup and wedge salad outstanding starters. We ended with a shared piece of their amazing coconut cake that lived up to its reputation and was bigger than we could finish.
Our special evening was made even better by having selected The Peninsula Grill for dinner. We visit Charleston a few times a year but had never managed to be here for our anniversary. This restaurant is an ideal place for your next ,"Occasion," evening!
Best meal in years. Would go back every week!!!! Awesome does. It even begin to describe it.
We love Peninsula Grill!
We ask for Danielle, who is an excellent waitress.
The food is always fantastic.... we usually end up ordering the special of the evening.
Of course, save room for the Coconut Cake!
Every course was wonderful. Joann was our waitress. She was very knowledgeable, efficient, attentive yet unobtrusive. The soft crab appetizer in shrimp bisque (which I actually had as my dinner) was cooked perfectly. As a dinner option, you get 2 soft crabs rather than one. One was perfect for me. Others ordered the shrimp bisque, grilled pork chop, wedge salad, kale salad with strawberries and yogurt and raves about them. Three of us ordered the signature vanilla coconut cake which we all loved but could not finish. One ordered and finished a yummy toffee caramel sundae.
An amazing culinary experience from start to finish. The ambiance is wonderful. My wife and I were celebrating her birthday, and I chose this restaurant for this reason. I suggest booking in advance. We went on a Sunday evening during a blustery, windy, torrential downpour. Even still, the restaurant was full when we arrived at 8:30. It was our first time here and I am sure we will return.
The service was impeccable: present when needed, out of the way otherwise, and extraordinarily helpful. We started with champagne (they have a very nice list of champagnes by the glass), Veuve Cliquot, and several apps. The Oysters Rockefeller and the Snapper/Caviar tartar were both beautifully presented as well as tasty.
The tartar was my choice. The fish sat on the bottom of a wide, shallow bowl, bathed in a light ponsu sauce punctuated with small dollops of a smooth and creamy avocado accent. The caviar placed on 'spoons' of thin radish slices around the fish was a perfect compliment.
For our mains, I chose a special of halibut and my wife had the scallops. Both dishes we so flavorful yet delicate on the palate.
They have an ample wine selection depending on your budget. To pair with our meal, we selected a California Chardonnay (we like buttery, oaky flavored ones): a half bottle of the Miner Chardonnay. It was a perfect accompaniment to our seafood.
We finished by sharing the coconut cake. Neither of us are big coconut fans but this cake is truly worthy as their house specialty. Six thin layers of moist cake separated by a delicious but not too sweet coconut creme frosting, and lightly topped with toasted coconut.
In a word...perfect! The atmosphere, service, and food were all lovely! The she-crab soup was memorable and my favorite dessert of all time, coconut cake, was heavenly!
The Peninsula Grill was fantastic. The room is lovely and the service is attentive without being overbearing. The coconut cake is to die for.
Every part of our dinner was great. We were impressed
Fabulous meal at Peninsula Grill . We were able to sit outside on the patio (very romantic) which is why I gave 5 star for noise level . Food and service far exceeded expectations.
She crab soup was amazing and my pan seared scallops so flavorful !
Highly recommend !
The hostesses were extremely snobby & unwelcoming, however the waitress Chris & the rest of the staff were amazing !!
My Dad said their dinner was delicious. Their server, Chris, was outstanding. They did something very special on his dessert. They wrote in chocolate Happy 80th Birthday, but kept it low key like I had requested. We always recommend Penninsula Grill to anyone we know who is going to Charleston.
I've heard great things, but on our 1st visit everything seemed rushed. Nothing more so than the halibut special they were offering that night. Obviously people like this restaurant and maybe it was just an off night in the kitchen, but I have to be honest and say I was disappointed. Across the street, they blew us away. Not so much at Peninsula.
Still the best overall restaurant in Charleston and has been for decades.
We are local residents and decided to go for our Anniversary. Peninsula Grill doesn’t disappoint. We had a wonderful evening with amazing food and service. Many Thanks.
We had an outstanding experience. The food was over the top exceptional! The service was top notch! My husband said it was his favorite meal we had in Charleston... thats saying something because we had great food on our visit!
Birthday dinner for my girl friend. It was perfect.
We like fresh local foods simply but well prepared. This was not the case at Peninsula Grill. My pan seared snapper was more like fried snapper,; it was accompanied by mussels and clams in a sauce. The clams were fine, the mussels not so much.. mybjpartners halibut and shrimp was more acceptable. My test is : would you oredef this again, in both entrees the answers a fesounding no.
The room was very loud . We initally seated at the door to the dining room, eventually we were moved further in but against the wall of a major traffic thoroughfare. Food, empty dishes and other patrons passing by made for a less that relaxing experience.
We have dined in fine restaurants on six of the seven continents ; peninsula grill does not measure up.
Everything from service to food to wine was excellent. Best duck dinner my husband has ever had - and my soft shell crab was wonderful! A delightful experience!
Food and service was very good but our party of 4 was seated adjacent to a large table of 16(?) which made it very hard to talk and to be heard. Our server even had to lean over the table to take our order.
Unfortunate that the noise level will be our lasting first impression of The Peninsula Grill.
Overpriced but so so. Service was nice. Food ok not too many menu options. Not for vegetarians
Exceptional in every way imaginable!
We visit Charleston every few years and finally were able to get reservations at Peninsula Grill and we were NOT disappointed. The food was delicious and the service top notch. Well done!!!
One of the best restaurants in Charleston. Always good. Not trendy. On this visit, three of us in a party of four had the special entree, soft shell crab. Fried in a light batter, and on a flavorful and contrasting “gazpacho, it was delicious.
I have been going here for years. The food and service is impeccable and the sommelier Dennis really made our night great. Thanks again to Peninsula Grill.
Was amazing service and quality food.
Good food and service. Soft shell crab special was really good. Not all men wearing jackets so men wear jackets request is pretty much ignored.
This restaurant combines all that is great about southern dining. Outstanding service, great atmosphere and excellent food. A traditional menu done extremely well and served by professionals who are gracious, attentive and pleasant. My wife and I only get to Charleston once a year, but we always make sure that the Peninsula Grill is on the our itinerary. Hopefully one of these times the weather will cooperate and we can dine outside on the beautiful patio.
Impeccable service; have never seen the ratio of servers to diners anywhere else. Creative and lovely food. Felt like royalty as they even used our names as we left. Very enjoyable experience in Charleston!
We took our 16yr old granddaughter back during our annual trip to charleston for the Volvo tennis tournament. PG did not disappoint - our booth was ready for us when we arrived (i had called to say we were driving into town a few minutes late and staff were so attentive and efficient), and the food and service were just wonderful. I had the she-crab soup for the first time and it was out of this world! The seared scallops were just wonderful and of course the final closure with coconut cake not to be missed. We tried another restaurant the 2nd. Night which was good, but all of us agreed it did not compare with PG! We will be back soon!
Unfortunately we weren’t able to be seated outside. The outside seating area looked beautiful, inside is a tad dark and crowded for my taste
My wife and I ate at the Penninsula Grille for our 10th anniversary - the service was second to none and the food quality, flavor and creativity were top notch. The cocktails were strong and flavorful. The she-crab soup lived up to the billing as the best in Charleston.
Best food we ate during our time in Charleston! Wonderful fresh food. Service and atmosphere was awesome.
