Ribeye was tough, filet was wonderful, 12 layer coconut cake was really good. Not worth the $$$. I’ve had much better at Poogan’s Porch.

We dined at Peninsula Grill for our anniversary, the dining room was a lovely cosy spot for the occasion, with dim lighting and a romantic atmosphere. My husband had the lobster three ways for a starter, he said it was incredible, as was my winter squash bisque. He had a steak for entree and I had the chicken, which was probably some of the best chicken I've ever had, perfectly cooked and with a delicious jus. Goats cheese potatoes on the side were also fantastic. And the coconut cake for dessert - a must try. The kitchen piped 'Happy anniversary' in chocolate on the plate which was a nice touch. Probably a good idea to share the cake for dessert, it is rather large! The service was faultless, but we had expected that based on other reviews.

A note on attire - we dressed up for the evening, especially considering the restaurant suggests that a jacket is preferred for gentlemen, however I did notice that some people took a more relaxed approach and even saw a few people in hooded sweatshirts. Just thought I would mention that, as I personally struggled to find accurate information on the dress code prior, and I felt rather more 'dressed up' than others and it seemed to be a mixed bag in terms of attire.

We eat at the Peninsula Grill at least once a year when we visit Charleston and love the upscale environment. They have, however, lapsed in their dress standards. We saw t-shirts and denims, thus making the Peninsula unspecial, more like other mediocre area restaurants. I doubt we will go there again unless they set standards and keep them.

Fantastic meal in great surroundings. Service was fantastic with some excellent recomendations. Coconut layer cake is worth the visit on its own.

When you stay at accommodations like Planters Inn where the rates are $450+ there comes a higher degree of expectation. Peninsula Grill failed to reach such expectations on my recent visit. The ambiance was great however that was quickly tempered by lackluster inattentive service. We ordered she-crab soup that was served cool. That was followed by my New York Strip which was ordered at a medium rare temp only to be served well done. All of this would have been more tolerable if our pdrinks from the bar would have been refilled as requested but this too proved challenging. As for me next time I’ll stick with Grill 225 which always lives up to expectations and is only steps away.

Our waiter was Johnathan and while we don't eat in 4 star eateries everyday, Jonathan made us feel like we were special...the food was great and the atmosphere conducive for a wonderful Valentine's celebration.

The staff were very welcoming even though we were not really dressed up for the occasion. It was our last night in Charleston and we wanted some place special. The Peninsula did not disappoint. My wife had the salmon and said it was the best ever. I had grouper and it was amazing. We shared asparagus and grits rather than ordering separately and it worked out perfectly. The she-crab soup was the best we have had.
Just exceptional and suitable for a special occasion.

My wife and I eat at Peninsula Grill several times a year just for ourselves. Food and service are always superb. We also take out of town guests and business associates. After twenty years they are still delivering to notch product. Love the coconut cake.

Service was outstanding! Food was excellent, but if garlic/salt is an issue, this restaurant may be a bit spicy for your taste.
Having said that, we are likely to return, but be a bit more careful in our choice of entrees.

Decor and food were very good. Waiter was a bit snippy .I asked to have one of the $42 entrees substitute a green vegetable for the potatoes. He said he would have to see if this was possible, He never got back and old me the outcome of the request, but it did come thru. His response was arrogant and ridiculous , especially for a meal that expensive

Amazing food. Amazing service. Friendly staff. I've dined at some restaurants where the staff was snooty. As elegant as this restaurant is that is not the case here. Just to add, I had the scallops. I make a point of having scallops anywhere I go that serves them. I've had scallops all over town and this is the best scallops dish of all so far in Charleston.

Hands down, this is one of the best restaurants in Charleston! Everything about this restaurant made my visit special. This restaurant definitely provided five star service, food and atmosphere. To top off the entire experience my friend who was at dinner with me had been looking for a special drink for months at different restraints called, "Vesper" (James Bond's special drink) we were quite surprised that they had it here! This was our first visit to this establishment. I will be recommending it to my friends and family.

It was a nice experience--but that's most of what you're paying for. The food was good but relatively unremarkable for the level of restaurant this is. Scallops had lots of sand, sauces didn't have much flavor, and the menu wasn't very exciting. That said, the service was excellent and the mood was nice with plenty of conversation piece-level paintings scattered around. There were very few younger people (besides staff), giving this place a slight "society" or stuffy feel. Pro tip: Don't try to enter through the hotel next door even though there are several signs there for the restaurant.
