Pena Pachamama Ratings and Reviews
I brought a date here to dine and hear music, and found the atmosphere warm and friendly. It is slightly informal, which suited us well, and people spontaneously got up and danced to the Bolivian music. We were comfortable talking, listening to the music, and watching the dancers, and the food was great. Shared a bottle of Bolivian Merlot, which was inexpensive and tasty. I'm sure I'll be back.
History, Ambiance, Music, Dancing, Healthy & Tasty food--all comes with the delightful experience at Pena Pachamama. It's a cozy atmosphere, so you end up meeting the folks around you as you all experience the night together. Do not fail to try the Kale Chips!! Amazing.
I love Latin flavor in food and music. It was a joy to be able to see Chucho Valdez in such an intimate and friendly place. I made a reservation forone only hours before the show and I was served quickly, food was good, and the music began on time. It was an abolutely greattime for a Jazz fan from Austin, texas.
The best part about the restaurant was the atmosphere and the music - it's vibrant sound and the place was lively. Service was good and food acceptable, but what brings the whole experience down is the cost. It's a unique spot for sure, but add up the 'cover' to watch the band perform (we went on a Saturday night) and the high costs of the food and drink and you'll find it doesn't end up being an equitable bargain. For those prices the food needs to make up the difference - it didn't.
Great find - we loved the kale chips, buckwheat crackers with guacamole, salad, salmon and the wonderful vegan chef's plate. The ambiance was cozy and friendly and the music was amazing. Overall, an excellent choice for a great meal and great entertainment. Hope to return soon!
The food was delicious however it seemed a bit unorganized and there is little space to seat people. we came for the show, but they didn't seat us in the 730 showing upstairs, rather we were seated in the 830 show downstairs which we weren't aware of and the food seemed a bit pricey overall. Maybe it was because it was my first time going there and I had to pay $25 for parking, but it just wasn't what i had thought.
I had amazing evening with my best friend here! Remarkable kale chips and a surprise show after our meal! It was a wonderful Friday night date. We would have appreciated being told that we were being charges for the show, however. The musicians and belly dancers were so incredible! I just wish we had he opportunity to know in advance of the fees for the show.
I liked the idea of the restaurant which features Latino cultures through music and dance. But I looked at the calendar which didn't seem to have alot of different Latino entertainers. It's a good place for a date once in a while. Food was interesting, fresh, and flavorful. I liked the beef empanada the best.
Went here for my birthday to enjoy the live world music and organic, local cuisine with an ethnic flair. I had a great time! The plantains and the kale chips were delectable! I would definitely recommend this place to others. This place has some warm, vibrant energy.
It was our first time trying Bolivian food and it wasn't a great experience. The food was okay and the service was subpar. The server just basically took our order, brought it in and that was it. The sad part was most of the tables were empty so service could have definitely been given. Since food didn't really stand out to compensate for the lack of service, we won't coming back.
The food is really good and the cultural show is great they do change it nightly so you should check that nights theme.
There is a cover charge however of $12/person, so if you think you get a "show with dinner" you are wrong. So it adds quite abit to your nights costs. ie: 4 people eat for $150 not inc. tip plus an added $48. makes for a $200+. evening. We are not sure if we will return because of that.
I have been to Pena Pachamama once to their Cuban Night performance on Friday and LOVED it. Decided to go back again two days ago to check out their live music. According to their calendar that night was supposed to be playing "Black Sea Rhythms - Turkish Ethnic-Pop" which I thought was going to be great. Sadly that night turned out to be one male tenor singer singing a mix of Italian and Spanish romantic songs, such as those of Andre Bocelli. He had a nice voice but my friend and I were really hoping for lively turkish music, not romantic love songs... Why the last minute change in program??
The food and service was very good though! I would definitely come back again but next sure I would call in advance to confirm the type of music...
This restaurant was recommended from a friend and I when visited San Francisco I wanted to take my family. Being from Bolivia I thought it would be a good experience. When we entered the restaurant and sat down we saw the ridiculous prices in food that has been completely taken out of proportion. For a basic meat pie called "salteña" the askin price was $13 when you can find the same item in restaurants in L.A. or D.C. for $3.50
Needless to say we walked out without ordering because of the blatant disregard and insult of my heritage and culture
This place was amazing!!! The execution of the food was right on! We wish we had time to go back before we leave town. I highly recommend their new potatoes covered in spicy cashew cheese and their kale chips. Only negative feedback would be that owner needs to have a meeting with waiters and allow them to try all their new items on menu so they can give customers feedback. They were kind, but just uninformed.
Great food, great live entertainment. Service was lacking.
Took very long to get everything, including our check.
We were overcharged and when we told the manager, she barely changed anything.
They were apathetic to the whole situation.
Hope to come back and have a different experience.
It was good food - very impressed that they had vegan food there. I was a bit surprised that there was a show there, and at first I thought the restaurant was going to charge us to see the show on top of our food, but we cleared that up by the time the food came. FYI the samplers to be shared all comes on one plate and tastes good but could use some help with presentation!
Not impressed with the food... the place is small and crowdy. The best thing was the band! very good! The atmosphere was fun and familiar. It would be great if you go in a big group but for my kind of "intimate dinner with 2 good friends to chitchat" it was the wrong setting.
This place is a great place to go for some amazing music and to see many different forms of dance. Although the waitress wasn't so great this night, the first woman who was serving was great but when she left and the new waitress took over things went down hill. She hardly paid attention to the tables, was really slow and forgot to bring our coffee. I have been here before and the service is usually better, just that particular waitress seemed to not care about her job.
The food and drink is also tasty, all organic and there's variety if you have a strict diet such as vegan or raw.
