We stopped to have lunch at Pelons on a Saturday and were running late and I called to let them know and they moved my reservation by 15 minutes to accommodate us. Everyone there was very friendly. When you walk in it's a little dark but we were able to sit in the more lighted area. We ordered a variety of items on the menu and they were all good. The chicken fajitas was very good. Chicken was very tender. The queso was exceptional.
Wonderful food, excellent service. I would definitely recommend.
Food was very good, waitress was new but did very well and was pleasant to talk to.
Excellent options for gluten free available without modifications.
I usually don't get too fired up over Tex-Mex, so I did not have very high expectations when I reserved a table at Pelons. How I love to be proved wrong! Every dish from the Guacamole appetizer, to the spicy shrimp tacos, to the Churros for desert; all were excellent and not the standard Tex-Mex fare. Pelons demands several more return visits.
My wife and I are visiting Austin staying in town. The location to our hotel was a 6 minute walk. Nice outside space and the drinks and food were both good.
Surprisingly not busy for a Friday night, which made it quieter, which was nice. Took forever to get a waiter, took longer for drinks. All of our food didn’t come out, and we didn’t see another employee for a while to ask about it. We’ve dined at Pelon’s a few times. This was our worst experience.
We had a large reservation for 11 people, during peak friday night. I arrived with my husband 5 minutes early and the table was ready for us, with chips and salsa and waters already set out. They let us sit without our entire party (who was arriving sporadically for the next 10 minutes) and the waiter was on point getting drink orders and food. They split the check no questions asked, and everything was incredibly easy for us. Food was good, ambiance is super cute, and drinks were delicious. We will definitely be back and we were so happy with everything!
Good food good times. Been twice and both times it was great.
I understand TexMex is supposed to be greasy, but this was to the point of gross. Chips were so hard, they could break a tooth. And my margarita tasted like tequila and lime only. Next time I'm in Austin, I'll skip this place.
Great variety of entrees and drinks at an adorable downtown location! Wonderful service and affordable prices for all to enjoy!!
The food was excellent. Don’t visit without ordering the queso! Loretta and Marc took care of our table, and they were amazing. Highly recommend Pelon’s!
The service wasn't great, quite slow and the waitress frequently seemed confused. Our order was simple, only 3 items, and the waitress couldn't remember it/wasn't listening closely. The food wasn't overly spiced, the flautas were pretty plain but the orange jicama salad was nice and fresh. Prices were reasonable. Probably wouldn't recommend, there are more interesting bars and restaurants to try in Austin.
Food was great! Service was slow and the restaurant wasn’t very busy but it won’t stop me from going back.
Great food, atmosphere, and location. In town to visit daughter’s and found this great place. Made reservations, and seated quickly. Staff was very friendly, and quick service.
Celebrated my bachelorette party with dinner at Pelon’s. The entire staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. We had a great time!
Excellent place. Really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent.
Great for a lunch place! Delicious.
Nice venue with lots of outdoor seating options. Classic Mexican meals. Friendly staff.
They were incredibly accommodating for a big group. The queso and frozen margaritas were great. Tacos were a little dry.
Great service, drinks and food was delicious! Perfect date night spot :)
As soon as I bit into the chip, I thought uh-oh . . . The chip was stale. However, a fresh basket was brought and every thing else was delicious
Terrible food, terrible waiter, OH and the A/C unit above our table dripping A/C water onto the chips
Perfect. Keeps us coming back!!
We had a delightful brunch there on the back patio.
My Wife and I like to eat there before attending performances at the Trinity Street Theatre.
Food & Margaritas were great! The service was very SLOW. Had to ask multiple times for chips, water and check. I would come again, but don’t set your expectations high on the service side of things. We were there at 5pm with less than 1/3 of tables filled.
Good experience. Has a very casual vibe. Food was good, was a great place for group of coworkers to have a nice evening.
The service was absolutely terrible and the food was cold when we got it. We were one of 4 tables seated, there was no reason for anything we experienced.
Absolutely terrific. Keeps us coming back to this Red River sweet spot!
First time here after living and dining out in Austin for 20 years. We LOVED it! Took family to Pelon's for Easter lunch. Salsa, quac and queso all were fantastic and loved by whole family. I ordered basic beef enchiladas and they were simply the best I've ever had. Teen sons ordered the Ranch Hand Quesidillas and were happy as clams (no veggies!). Wife enjoyed the fish tacos. Mexican martini was perfect. And our server, Karen, did a superb job. Was friendly and efficient. Finally, it was my birthday and they comp'ed us a Tres Leches dessert. The whole family enjoyed sharing one generous slice. We will be back!
Absolutely fantastic. The food. The service. The ambience. We’ll be back!
Great outdoor seating with great food.
We had a great experience! The food the margaritas and service were exceptional!
We went there before a concert at Stubb’s. The cheese enchiladas were amazing and the margaritas were too. A great way to get ready for some fun!
Food seemed like it came from a cab. Unacceptable!!
Unfortunately we were not greeted warmly by the hostess and I question the food portions as I ordered the fajitas for two to share and another friend ordered for one and they were identically portioned.
The food is mediocre, as in salty enchiladas and bland tacos. Guacamole with too much jalepeño, replacing flavor with heat. I did enjoy the salsa, but I feel like I've had it before.
The cocktails are absolutely terrible. The house margarita very clearly uses a mix; I guess it's too hard to use fresh ingredients. The other two cocktails we tried were not well made (and one was almost certainly just wrong, but the server was sure we were).
We skipped dessert.
This restaurant is quaint but good Tex-Mex. I’m only a Tex-Mex fan and this hit the spot. The salsa had the right amount of spice and chicken fajitas were bomb!
Food was good. Service was very slow. It took more than 30 minutes to get our food and drinks. I think this can be improved. We enjoyed ourselves and the food. It just took too long.
