Pelican Grill Ratings and Reviews
Pelican Grill is one of my favorite restaurants in Newport and once again it did not disappoint. From the friendly and efficient valet, to the accommodating hostess, to the incredible food (had the tuna tartar and the halibut done in a Thai-like coconut sauce), to the fantastic wine list (we enjoyed Baron Laducette). All in all, a great meal, with great friends, at a great venue. Highly recommended.
Everthing about the experience was outstanding except that most of our time
there was ruined by having to listen to a screaming child. The management was unwilling to ask a member of the family to remove the child from the restaurant, and was insufficiently sympathetic to our desire to eat a meal in peace. They wouldn't do anything--not even ask the family to have consideration for other diners. This was the very least they could do.
If an adult were to scream incessantly in a restaurant he would be asked to leave. It should be no different for a child.
The atmosphere was very nice. They had old-time Christmas carolers which was a nice touch. Service was excellent. Food was mediocre unfortunately. My boyfriend ordered the surf and turf: rib eye and a grilled half lobster tail. The lobster was dry and rubbery. We sent it back and when they brought him a new one, it was just as bad! But the waiter, Michael, was awesome and he didn’t charge us for it. The pretzel bread was delish. Overall a decent experience. May go back again to try other menu items.
The Pelican Grill is a great place for dinner with many menu options at normal resort prices. Our service was truly outstanding, the food was great and the atmosphere on the enclosed patio was quiet and romantic. There is also an indoor dining area with a display kitchen that looked rather elegant. The separate bar area has a very homey fireplace with two big screen TV's on each side tuned to sporting events (Hope sports are your thing!). However, my suggestion to wine-drinking, future guests is that you bring your own wine and pay the corkage. The wine list, while extensive, is way over-priced. Perhaps this is to be expected at an up-scale resort, but there is a difference between an average markup and just getting gauged. So, BYOW and expect to have a great time.
The Pelican Grill is an ideal restaurant for a nice dinner in the Newport Beach / Newport Coast area. It is one of the most beautiful restaurants we have been to in a long time. High ceilings, wood mouldings, warm lighting, friendly, professional and attentive service from when you walk in the door to when you leave. There is a beautiful patio with heat lamps and a heated floor for el fresco dining - which we chose for this visit. The food is well prepared — we enjoyed the fresh rolls, a nice salad, and a very tasty pasta bolognese. We would highly recommend this restaurant. We commend the staff and proprietors on a job well done.
My boyfriend and I dined here recently for our two-year anniversary. It was an amazing experience. The food was great, our waiter (we never found out his name) was super knowledgeable and friendly and offered to take sweet pictures of us. Wonderful staff, wonderful ambiance. I honestly felt like royalty. 10/10, would recommend to everyone! :)
We enjoyed their thematic Thanksgiving dinner menu and was seated outside. The table was perfect for viewing the sunset and for conversation. The service was prompt, accurate, and smooth. Valet service was fast and they were tipped very well. However, a different server dropped 5 plates at the service bar and that stung the ears for a good minute. The cocktail menu could use some more classic cocktails - I ordered a Pisco sour and asked for Marker's Mark specifically - but I got some other frat boy concoction instead. All in all , a great experience for a relaxing holiday. I would return with family in the future.
This was our second year spending Thanksgiving. Last year was perfect across the board. This year our server was preoccupied with everyone but our table. Service was slow. We waited 45 minutes for our check. The strip steaks were fatty, nothing great Bout any part of the meal. Our meal was nearly $500 for two adults and Two kids. What a huge waist of money.
