The food was great and the service really made the evening.
Chef Mauro runs a tight kitchen! Pelago is where to go for Dover sole now that the Cape Code room is closed and so is Ocean Catch. Chef had whole pompano last night, so we order it. Prepared perfectly. Elegant room, fabulous wine list, great service, definitely for adults. Dress up!
Wow! What an amazing meal! Everything was perfect from beginning to end. We had the tri-color salad to start, then split the most decadent plate of gnocchi we've ever tasted. My husband then had lamb and I had the pheasant. Everything was delightful. This is our new favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago. It beats Spiaggia, hands down.
Food & Service were outstanding. Very disappointed, however, as we were celebrating my wife's birthday (and it was a major one) and had asked specifically for a birthday dessert -- none was delivered.
Very hospitable and caring. Great service.
This restaurant is a hidden gem! We hosted some business colleagues who were in town for a convention. I had never been to Pelago and the reviews were somewhat unflattering. The restaurant was elegantly decorated and bright with some natural light (many elegant restaurants are dark). The service was beyond impeccable: non-intrusive but attentive. The food had fresh ingredients, attractive presentations, and was absolutely delicious with generous portions. I had a cavatelli with shrimp that was incredible. I will definitely return.
always interesting, always excellent, service attentive, food amazing, one of my favorite places
We always make it a point to dine at this fine restaurant when in Chicago from Kansas City. The service is amazing and the experience always first class. One of my wife's favorites in all of Chicago. Our server was excellent.
We come each year and love it more every time. The food is always top notch, and Chef Mauro makes everyone feel welcome.
Every element of my evening./dinner was perfection
Beautiful restaurant, great service and exceptional food
We had a very romantic side by side table in a quiet alcove. The service was outstanding. Food was good but not up to the price level asked. The atmosphere and service made up for that.
Fabulousr small restaurant with outstanding Italian food. Pricey but worth it.
Why did not I get points
When I first looked at the menu I was somewhat surprised at the cost of the entrees. They were higher than I expected, however, all of the food was totally worth it. It was delicious. The service was impeccable. Loved this place. The only down side was that wine, by the bottle, is somewhat expensive. I'm not saying the wine isn't worth it but just expect to pay at least $75 per bottle. I would go again and again.
Unbelievable authentic Italian cuisine at its best. Chef Mafrici and his team did a superb job with the ambiance of the restaurant. Relaxing piano music playing in the background with service beyond expectations. Chef Mafrici greeted us before and after our meal. Personal attention with creative offerings for all to enjoy. The pasta was the best we had ever tasted. Highly recommend for any memorable occasion or to enjoy Italian food to knock your socks off!
The space is beautiful. The food is over priced and while the flavor profiles were magic in a few dishes, it misses the mark on the others. The squid app, while slightly over cooked was very tasty. The octopus, while slightly over cooked was tasty. The two pasta dishes were quite good(a shrimp pasta and a venison gnocchi); however the venison in the gnocchi was tough. I eat much more than the average person and we were both stuffed after these four dishes (for two ppl) but went with the servers recommendation on the whole dish and bass wrapped in butter lettuce with truffle. The later dish was the worst meal I’ve had in years. After only eating one bite, and leaving the rest, the server assistants (who were very rough, knocked over stuff on the table, were intrusive and loud) asked me if I was done and grabbed the plate. No one seemed concerned that the whole piece of fish remained on the plate or bothered to ask if I enjoyed my meal. I don’t mind spending a fortune on a great meal, and rarely write reviews, but was quite disappointed. Portions should be reduced drastically along with the price if they want to continue pushing 3-4 courses.
Our new favorite Italian Restaurant in Chicago. Elegant ambiance and service. The food was sublime and wine list was impressive. Chef Mauro Mafrici was charming.
It was incredible. Loved it
Great pasta, fabulous service. I always go to Pelago when I visit Chicago. A must dine at restaurant.
Chef Mauro's northern Italian cuisine (Trieste) is very creative in a very sophisticated and attractive space. Service is top notch - Alfredo is very polished and approachable. Chef is open and friendly - a great asset to Streeterville.
Pelago is a wonderful Italian restaurant just off Michigan Avenue in the Rafael Hotel. The restaurant is small but beautiful, the food is excellent, and the service is outstanding. The pastas are homemade, the food is authentic, and the chef is always there. It is a place for grownups. We are so glad we found it.
This is just an exceptional, authentic Italian restaurant. The Chef offers also Gluten-free menu with same taste of regular one!
Some people refuse to eat in hotel restaurants, but this spot is the rare exception. Although the restaurant is a little hard to find, it is worth the visit. In reality, it's just two blocks east of the Hancock, and the attention to detail is perfect. It was our first visit, but will not be our last. We are looking forward to warmer weather when we can sit outside.
Birthday dinner - service was great and the food was amazing! Very attentive staff and we never waited for a thing. All courses were timed perfectly. Our after dinner coffees were not as hot as we would have liked them to be but were offered to have them redone. We will be back. Loved the experience.
Our favorite Italian when visiting Chicago.
Amazing food, ambience and service!
Excellent service by owner and staff.
Somewhat pricey for drinks and daily special.
The chef, Mauro Mafrici, is amazing. And such a generous warm person as well. How his staff could be so cold and condescending is beyond me. At one point, one of my dinner companions had gotten warm and put her sweater over the back of the chair. A hostess came over and asked if she could put the sweater on the side stool provided. I know they want to create an aesthetic that is pleasing to all patrons, but they made this particular patron very uncomfortable. The used-car-salesman up-sell tactics used by our server were beyond annoying. We aren't poor. It's not that we couldn't afford a 4 or 5 course meal....we just weren't that hungry. This was the line: "Ah! Wonderful choice. But may I suggest you order 2 as one is not enough for the table?" It was slick and frankly beneath the establishment.
Our second time there. The food is fantastic and the service is very good and very professional. Both times were long evenings so do not plan a one hour dinner.
One of the BEST family meals we've ever had! Our waiter, Alfredo, made us feel so comfortable and was the BEST EVER!!!
Wonderful cooking in service, always a great experience
AMAZING SERVICE & food
Great spot. Please note: the only reason I rated the "noise level" as energetic is because they had a woman playing the harp for entertainment, which was actually very nice. How ever, we where seated right next to the harp player and it was a little to loud for us, kind of hard to carry on with our conversation. I'm sure that had we been seated a little further away from the harp player we would not have had this issue.
The chef offered to create a menu for us and It was like he read our minds. An amazing experience!
Great Valentines Day dinner! Excellent food!!:)
Prices a bit high-$14 for soup...kinda high:(
This is without any doubt the best Italian restaurant in Chicago. A mix of authenticity, great ingredients and originality. I am an extremely critical Italian-born costumer and Pelago simply went over my expectations!
Another awesome experience. The chef made us branzino although it wasn’t on the menu. In my opinion it’s the 1st or second best upscale Italian restaurant in the city. Riccardo would be the only other restaurant in my opinion in the same league.
Every meal I’ve had at Pelago has been amazing! Their black truffle pasta is the best I’ve ever had and their fish is always superb. The ambiance is elegant but comfortable. It’s the perfect date spot!
Elegant spot with great service.
Quite the place that celebrate a birthday
Business meal with a customer. Our party ended up going from a 4 top to a deuce due to the flu. Service started out great but staff directed their attention to larger parties that came in after us. Even though i opened with a very nice bottle of wine and would have spent more on a second bottle we had to wait over 30 minutes after asking for the wine list again before anyone came back to ask if we found anything. Food was good but not over the top but the service made us expendable. Tried it once but will not be back for a second visit.
