Best meal and service in some time. I remember it was good from my last visit a few years back. Left knowing that I cant wait years to return. The Risotto could have me retuning once a month!

Very disappointed in the overall experience. Extremely expensive for what you get. There are many ITALIAN cuisine restaurants in Chicago of equal quality for half the cost.

Possibly the best Italian restaurant in Chicago -- fabulous pasta with truffles and maybe the best Italian wine listing we have ever seen....

Outstanding and enthusiastic service and high quality food. Beautiful room, white tablecloths and attentive but not intrusive service. Great menu and wine list. We eat out frequently and this is a special place. From the moment we sat down I knew this was going to be a great experience. The Chef was accessible and grateful for our patronage. Strongly recommend one of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago.

It is always a special occasion to dine at "Pelago"... My wife and I have dined at Pelago on many occasions over the last year . We keep returning because the service , ambiance, and the food all are exceptional.... Tonight our server was a man named Alfredo. He asked if this was our first time dining at Pelago... Per usual the specials were explained to us . One item offered as a special , the pheasant breasts ...we asked what the price would be ... We were told the dish would cost 46-49$....We were surprised to get a range rather than a price . After our cocktails were served Alfredo came to take our orders . There seemed to be an uncomfortable persistence on the part of our server to order a salad and appetizer. Both of us simply wanted an entre . We placed our orders . Immediately after I told Alfredo the pasta dish that I would like he mumbled something incoherent. I let it go . When our meal was served an additional large and delicious looking ( and expensive) hot vegetable platter was placed on our table . Alfredo came to our table shortly after our food was served and we informed him that we had not ordered the vegetable platter ( hmmm... so that is what he mumbled about ). He wisked it away . After repeatedly being asked if I was finished ,I wasn't , my wife excused herself . Alfredo came to our table . I asked him why the vegetable platter had been placed on our table earlier . This is where it gets interesting . I was expecting him to say something to the effect that it was meant for another table and apologize. But no . Alfredo told me that when the folks in the kitchen saw what we had ordered for dinner the made the decision to add the vegetable platter . I have never heard of that before . I found his explanation to be incredulous ... and disturbing . We were not charged for the vegetable platter ... Nor would have paid for it . We love dining at Pelago but on this one occasion we felt there was an attempt to take advantage of us .

It is always disappointing when you send a private note to a restaurant about your experience and don't hear back. The note below was sent last month and not a word was sent in response. Not what is expected of a restaurant operating at this level.

sent to management 10/24/17
Our dinner overall was just ok in large part due to feeling a fair amount of pretentiousness and some pushiness on part of server. When we ordered wine and asked for an opinion, we were directed straight to the most expensive bottle in the category. We also specifically ordered a single service of the Sole that was to be split and, when I reviewed the bill I saw we were charged for 2 servings. Very disappointing. Over drinks after dinner, everyone at the table had the same negative feeling towards the service.

We have been to Pelago numerous times. I went with my sister before going to a play. While the food was good the service really effected my love of Pelago. The waiter told us we needed to order more food than we were ordering., it wouldn’t be enough. We split a salad, had a grilled vegi plate and both had entrees. The grilled vegi plate was enough for a meal for one. As for the wine, the waiter assured us we would be happy with a 350.00 bottle. Are you kidding? After finishing the wine we asked to see the dessert menu that never came. The service has left me not wanting to return.

Our waiter tried to up sell us at every turn. He totally annoyed my guest and it was his Birthday. He added things to our order, told us how to order, what to do, how to do it...totally annoying. WE are the guests and should order what we want WHEN we want. For this reason alone it ruined the evening, very stressful.

We loved our entrees, but were slightly put off by not being allowed to share a pasta sampler--we were required to order two. The decor and ambiance were impressive and the overall experience was delightful.

Very small dining room. Fine dining ambiance. Service was excellent. Truly! They even have tiny stools next to you chair for your purse. The food was excellent.
This is an expensive restaurant. But they work hard to make sure it is worth the price.
Great for an occasion or date night.
Not a good choice for children or casual night out.

Lovely, old school Italian restaurant. Waiters are polite and unobtrusive. Prices are high - downtown Chicago! - and so that is the only negative. Definitely should be reserved for the special dining occasion for those that love food.

For the prices that you charge, the service is too slow and in this case, at times, inattentive. And the portions are too small. We had a major problem with service a couple of months ago, but decided to give the restaurant another chance. That was the last chance.

wonderful meal and great service. we dined outside and it's a very pleasant atmosphere. two things keep me from giving it 5 stars. 1) they ran out of one of the specials that night and then when my wife ordered the fish off the menu they had run out of it as well. it turned out not to be a problem since they subbed a wonderful swordfish (that was not on the menu!). 2) we ate and drank well but, after tip, the bill was over $400 for two. this is with a $57 bottle of wine...one of the cheapest on the wine list. speaking of which, our bottle of wine was excellent but they had an abundance of wines that were OVER $1,000/bottle. i'm not talking about one or two bottles...there must have been at least 30 at that price point. i'm not sure I've seen a more expensive wine list before...even in NYC. all that being said, we would go back since the food was great, service great and everyone VERY friendly.

An epicurean delight for sure! Excellent pasta, the absolute, very best grilled squid appetizer. The owner was so generous and told me how to prepare it. Delicioso pasta with sausage and peas as well as the ravioli. A must. Don't pass on the opportunity to dine there.

Absolutely one of the best meals I've ever had. If it's your first time visiting, splurge and go for the chef's tasting and you'll get to try SO many different things. There are five courses: cheese, risotto, pasta, choice of meat or fish, and dessert. Each course comes with a sampling of 3-4 items! Everything was out of this world and the wait staff was amazing. They were attentive, warm and knowledgeable. I really felt transported to Italy!

Six of us were in town and I wanted a nice restaurant near our hotel. I saw Pelago on OpenTable and thought the menu looked very good. Little did I know but the restaurant has a very upscale feel and the servers don't overlook any detail. Our food and wine was outstanding and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food and our dining experience. Be prepared to spend a little longer here as our dinner lasted almost two and a half hours. It wasn't slow service, rather a very enjoyable evening at Pelago!
