Place was dead. Literally we were the only table. We had a trainee server.
We had a wonderful meal on a Friday night. The ribeye and the Dr Pepper chicken were delicious, and we had great service as well. I highly recommend coming to eat here for a special occasion.
The service is incredibly slow and poor. An appetizer that was ordered as a entree was brought out early. One entree was completely forgotten. The service and food were so slow that two people needed to leave even before our food came. On a Sunday night the restaurant was pretty much empty, even though it was a holiday weekend.
We were in town for graduation and wanted a special dinner with the family, as we had not all been together for a long time. We were staying at the Overton and decided to eat at the Pecan Grill. Our waitress was friendly and offered several suggestions. The food was fantastic! We started with the spring rolls and they were really good. My daughter had the steak salad, I had at the pecan tilapia and the others had steaks. I loved my fish dish, but I expected it to be pecan crusted. It is actually a sweet pecan sauce served over the top. I loved it, but it isn't something that everyone would eat. Even my husband, who is quite picky about his food, and particularly steaks was pleased with the cut and the way it was cooked. They aren't cheap, but the quality of food makes it worth a visit.
Very disappointing visit considering this restaurant showed up on many "best of" lists. We waited about 10 minutes after our reservation time for our table because there weren't enough people to clean off tables. They were understaffed due to a larger event in the ballroom. The breakfast buffet offered a good selection but the quality did not meet expectations. Bacon was so overcooked it crumbled. Gravy and grits were congealed. The omelet chef had to multitask and refill the chafing dishes and condiments, which explains why my omelet was overcooked. A number of dishes were empty or near empty most of our time there. The butter dish was finally refilled more than 30 minutes into the meal with frozen butter. Our mimosas were garnished with an unpleasant maraschino cherry. The people who worked there were very pleasant and friendly, and appeared to be doing their best under difficult circumstances.
Service was slow. Somethings came out lukewarm
Comfortable atmosphere. Chef reached out to the table more than once. Good wine selection. Specials were excellent
Good upscale place in Lubbock; staff is friendly and capable. The bar is inadequate though: lowest-common-denominator sweet vermouth Martini and Rossi -- should be Dolans or Carpano Antica Formula; result is a mediocre Manhattan. Also, bar uses the red grocery-store cherries, not real Maraschino cherries. Better bar mix, please; the all-cracker mix needs nuts. Bartender -- who was eager to learn and provide good service, welcomed my lesson on flaming an orange peel (she at first sliced the peel too thickly). Love the outside deck for cigars. Thanks!
Food was mediocre. Took 45 minutes and the restaurant wasn't crowded. Waitress disappeared often and I had to go find her three times for bread, refills of tea and water, general service. Bread was cold. I love the environment, but with a poor waitress and and bland, lukewarm food, it was embarrassing to bring a candidate there. I wish it were better. I won't go again.
Bugs in apples. Rice undercooked, avocado brown, shrimp no flavor, filet tasted like roast. Band performing in lobby made ambiance in dining area poor.
Excellent service. Great meal.
Great food, excellent black eyed-peas, good service
Food was amazing. One of best steaks I've had in my life. Manager and servers were great. We go here every year and its always fantastic.
Our server was very professional and friendly. He did a nice job with food and wine recommendations. The food was very good, including the salmon, shrimp scampi and pot roast. The big hit was the bacon mac and cheese. The only mark that we felt was below expectations was ambience. In our opinion, the seating and tables didn't match the upscale food and hotel. However, overall it was very good.
The staff was very helpful with my wife's dietary needs.
Worst experience ever! Sunday Brunch reservation. No hostess at her station, hotel staff mopping floor in and around buffet that REAKED of ammonia, wait staff was completely unknowledgeable about what was on buffet, staff was spraying disinfectant and cleaning tables around us. There were only 3 other tables so the review here can not be blamed on volume of tables and poor staffing. I was trying the Pecan Grill before booking a $350 Valentine/Anniversary stay. I had been told the Pecan Grill was the “hidden gem of Lubbock”. I’m sorry but it wouldn’t say gem, I’d say it was more like soapstone. Won’t be going back. As a new resident of Lubbock (less than 5 years) I’m very very disappointed. I have dined at top notch restaurants in New York (Tavern on the Green) San Antonio (Bohanan's) and Houston (too many to list). The Caesar salad was better at a little Mom and Pop restaurant in Seabrook, Texas. Too much yellow lettuce and the "grilled" shrimp had that seafood smell. To add 3 shrimp was $9. Poorly seasoned and not even mediocre, but WORSE. The restaurant’s version of chicken and waffles was poor execution. Ranchero sauce pooled on the plate made it visually unappealing and also made the pepper, onion and sausage cornmeal waffles soggy. The chicken was not a boneless breast whole but more like it was attempt at shredding.
This review was left on their Facebook page on Sunday (no response or apology received yet) and sent today, January 31 through OpenTable after this review. Don't anticipate a response from that submission either.
Have been many times. First time a little disappointed. If your hungry don't do the Salmon....very small. Very. Service was slow. Steak was dry. Still a good restaurant bit hopefully was a one off experience
Great food, our server Kyle was so helpful
Steak was not cooked to requested temp. Way over cooked
Steak had little or no seasoning
The price of the food was way out of line for what we ate
I’ve had better food for a lot less money at places like Cagles and Las Brisas
The food was cold and average nothing special. The soup was horrible and the salad was awful. The turkey dinner was average. Something out of a frozen dinner. Will not be going back
Food was good, not great. My fish was dry so I asked for more of the sauce.
Friends' meals were good.
Had to ask for my pecans on the "Pecan Grill salad" weird. No one in restaurant but was a banquet going on which apparently affected the fact we did not get any bread till almost finished with the meal. Had to share water as server was not around very much. Don't go when there is a banquet going on....
We chose this restaurant for our 44th anniversary...the website made it look quiet, exclusive and posh.
There was a Tech game in town that night, so maybe this isn't the fairest of reviews, but the restaurant opens directly onto the bar which was packed with rowdy drunks...kind of destroying our plans for a quiet and romantic evening.
Then the band kicked in at high volume and we ended up shouting to each other over the meal.
The food was pretentious and well-plated, but the shrimp cocktail was absolutely tasteless (worst I've ever experienced) and my duck was nothing to brag about.
Over all...noisy, distracting, disappointing, and over-priced.
Our first time here. The tortilla soup was the only thing that was good. I ordered a Tito’s Cosmo and had to return it. Ordered iced tea. The various rolls served were cold. The butter was good. I had the pecan crusted snapper. First, it was very obvious the meal was not cooked fresh. The plate was hotter than the food. The pecan crusted was pecan soggy. Not even remotely close to a pecan crusted snapper. The rice was al dente. The waitress was very pleasant. I was very disappointed. I had high hopes for this restaurant. Will not return.
Very good food and some of the best service in Lubbock
Understanding that they were having a busy weekend, but the service was terrible, the food was ill prepared, and they seemed greatly understaffed.
We were disappointed with our anniversary date. There were very few tables full yet we were stuck right next to another couple and up against a wall. Our server was nice but very inattentive to us. My husband spilled his drink (definitely his fault) and our server was MIA while he attempted to clean up. When she finally came by, she merely handed him one extra napkin. We couldn't really have a decent conversation due to being so close to the other couple in a very empty and quiet restaurant. The food was delicious, the dessert was divine, but overall we did not enjoy our visit.
The brunch spread appeared stale with most food items not even warm. The potatoes were half cooked and number of items were also limited.
Great service. The food was over cooked even though we told them how we wanted it prepared and we informed the chef. The breakfast menu was very good and the food prepared as we asked and very flavorful.
Duck was okay. College student server was brand new and forgetful, but will improve. Restaurant is in a hotel - loud kids and other drama defined the ambiance.
Lack of inspiration
Way too Salty biscuit
Not updated winelist
Medium steak was welldone, got changed though.
Some Pecan got rancid smell
Our server was excellent. She greeted us, congratulated us on the occasion, was well-mannered, and took good care of us.
Passing through on our way to Santa Fe, we stopped for a night and chose Pecan Grill for dinner on a Wednesday evening based on previous comments and ratings. Started by having a prosecco along with the Pecan Grill salad. Both were satisfactory. I ordered the seafood special of the night, seabass, and my wife ordered the seafood and linguine. Then a somewhat long delay before the entrees arrived. Noise wasn't too loud except for our server and a group of college age students talking over each other. Later our server commented that a lot of students were in town checking out the university and were asking many questions. When entrees arrived the portions were very large, especially the seabass which was at least twice the portion I expected. Unfortunately it was also undercooked in the center, actually almost raw. But not expecting such a large portion I enjoyed the outer layers that were quite nice. The accompanying couscous (or whatever was under the fish) was flavourless, as was whatever sauce was added. My wife found the seafood and linguine to be nice, with generous pieces of scallop, lobster, crab and octopus amidst the properly cooked linguine. We declined dessert, even the "key lime pie which came from Florida" according to our server. Overall, dinner was adequate but not what most would call a fine dining experience.
Prices led me to expect fabulous food. I was disappointed
Absolutely wonderful. First time guest and we will be back
Nice space. Truthfully the food wasn't very good. My seafood cocktail of shrimp dungeness crab and scallops had the smell of seafood that had been there too long
We were a party of three. Sadly the only thing that was satisfactory was the breadbasket and the server
I ordered my hamburger medium and it came out raw in the center. I sent it back and then it came out charred. It was inedible. The manager did not charge me, which was gracious.
Every time we go to Lubbock to see our son at Texas Tech we stay at the Overton Hotel. One of the best features about this hotel is their amazing restaurant, the Pecan Grill. The food and service are always impeccable! My son has serious food allergies and the chef (Douglas Noxon) always prepares our meals with care without sacrificing flavor and taste. I highly recommend their steaks - so delicious! The atmosphere is elegant with a touch of rustic cowboy, very welcoming. This would be a great restaurant for a special occasion or date night, too. They offer an extensive wine list. We also love the breakfast buffet where we can get a made-to-order omelet and on Sundays they have a full brunch. In the evenings, the lounge has a patio with live music. I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant. We truly love the staff and really look forward to our visits. The Pecan Grill is one of the main reasons we always stay at the Overton Hotel. If we lived in Lubbock, we would frequent the restaurant even more!
Absolutely wonderful experience, from the service to the cusine. I am a foodie who has dined at the French Laundry so when I say the food is on point believe me it was. I was pleasantly suprized. This is a definite recommendation to go and experience it. The service was some of the best I've experienced in quite awhile. I took my yr old son and they even accommodated our special requests with ease. We went for Mother’s Day and will go back.
Food was very good. The head chef came out several times to check on us. Baked a delicious cake. Would definitely go back. Special thanks to head chef.
