We chose this restaurant for our 44th anniversary...the website made it look quiet, exclusive and posh.
There was a Tech game in town that night, so maybe this isn't the fairest of reviews, but the restaurant opens directly onto the bar which was packed with rowdy drunks...kind of destroying our plans for a quiet and romantic evening.
Then the band kicked in at high volume and we ended up shouting to each other over the meal.
The food was pretentious and well-plated, but the shrimp cocktail was absolutely tasteless (worst I've ever experienced) and my duck was nothing to brag about.
Over all...noisy, distracting, disappointing, and over-priced.
Our first time here. The tortilla soup was the only thing that was good. I ordered a Tito’s Cosmo and had to return it. Ordered iced tea. The various rolls served were cold. The butter was good. I had the pecan crusted snapper. First, it was very obvious the meal was not cooked fresh. The plate was hotter than the food. The pecan crusted was pecan soggy. Not even remotely close to a pecan crusted snapper. The rice was al dente. The waitress was very pleasant. I was very disappointed. I had high hopes for this restaurant. Will not return.
We were disappointed with our anniversary date. There were very few tables full yet we were stuck right next to another couple and up against a wall. Our server was nice but very inattentive to us. My husband spilled his drink (definitely his fault) and our server was MIA while he attempted to clean up. When she finally came by, she merely handed him one extra napkin. We couldn't really have a decent conversation due to being so close to the other couple in a very empty and quiet restaurant. The food was delicious, the dessert was divine, but overall we did not enjoy our visit.
Passing through on our way to Santa Fe, we stopped for a night and chose Pecan Grill for dinner on a Wednesday evening based on previous comments and ratings. Started by having a prosecco along with the Pecan Grill salad. Both were satisfactory. I ordered the seafood special of the night, seabass, and my wife ordered the seafood and linguine. Then a somewhat long delay before the entrees arrived. Noise wasn't too loud except for our server and a group of college age students talking over each other. Later our server commented that a lot of students were in town checking out the university and were asking many questions. When entrees arrived the portions were very large, especially the seabass which was at least twice the portion I expected. Unfortunately it was also undercooked in the center, actually almost raw. But not expecting such a large portion I enjoyed the outer layers that were quite nice. The accompanying couscous (or whatever was under the fish) was flavourless, as was whatever sauce was added. My wife found the seafood and linguine to be nice, with generous pieces of scallop, lobster, crab and octopus amidst the properly cooked linguine. We declined dessert, even the "key lime pie which came from Florida" according to our server. Overall, dinner was adequate but not what most would call a fine dining experience.
Nice space. Truthfully the food wasn't very good. My seafood cocktail of shrimp dungeness crab and scallops had the smell of seafood that had been there too long
We were a party of three. Sadly the only thing that was satisfactory was the breadbasket and the server
Every time we go to Lubbock to see our son at Texas Tech we stay at the Overton Hotel. One of the best features about this hotel is their amazing restaurant, the Pecan Grill. The food and service are always impeccable! My son has serious food allergies and the chef (Douglas Noxon) always prepares our meals with care without sacrificing flavor and taste. I highly recommend their steaks - so delicious! The atmosphere is elegant with a touch of rustic cowboy, very welcoming. This would be a great restaurant for a special occasion or date night, too. They offer an extensive wine list. We also love the breakfast buffet where we can get a made-to-order omelet and on Sundays they have a full brunch. In the evenings, the lounge has a patio with live music. I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful restaurant. We truly love the staff and really look forward to our visits. The Pecan Grill is one of the main reasons we always stay at the Overton Hotel. If we lived in Lubbock, we would frequent the restaurant even more!
Absolutely wonderful experience, from the service to the cusine. I am a foodie who has dined at the French Laundry so when I say the food is on point believe me it was. I was pleasantly suprized. This is a definite recommendation to go and experience it. The service was some of the best I've experienced in quite awhile. I took my yr old son and they even accommodated our special requests with ease. We went for Mother’s Day and will go back.
Very nice place. The only problem we had was that they got one of our 3 orders wrong, which meant one in our party had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes for their meal. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't make any adjustment to our bill for this inconvenience.
We had a belated Valentine's date night, and this was a great choice for us. Our food was served hot, and it was delicious. My husband rarely compliments a steak, but his was done just as he ordered, so he was very pleased. My seared salmon was excellent. The cuisine offers just enough intriguing flavors to be out of the ordinary, but not so exotic that it detracts from the meal. We found the staff to be courteous and attentive. We did have to remind the waiter a second time about one of the drinks ordered, but that wasn't a huge issue. Thanks for a lovely evening!
The waitstaff was very knowledgeable about the menu as well as the preparation. My husband and I wanted a nice quiet place for our date night. I was glad we chose this place. I did notice a great bar area that looked very inviting. I would like to see more Texas wines. I am rather partial to Trilogy Cellars . It would be a great addition to you list
Excellent night out! Adult family dinner, but family with kids would have been fine. Fried-green-tomato bruschetta is a must try! Excellent steak and salmon. Delicious sides - my grandma is vegetarian and ordered 3 side dishes for her meal. They were all delicious and she had plenty to eat! The chef was able to customize meals and everything was delicious!
The food was quite good and service was quick. The greatest weak point is the Cocktail menu, which was very limited. Another odd thing is two menus for the bar and main area, althought not that unusual in it's self I would expect both to be presented at the same time.
Enjoyed a nice pre fixe dinner on Thanksgiving with numerous choices. Food was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive. Wonderful craft ccocktails and extensive wine list. Upscale but comfortable dining room, a bit loud at times but very nice. Wonderful desserts. We will definitely be coming back to enjoy their full menu.
Our dinner started with a review of the wine list and were pleasantly surprised to see a nice selection of Texas wines. We selected a 2014 Sangiovese from McPerson winery which was very nice. The menu was creative - from bbq beef spring rolls to duck with blue cheese/bacon/mashed potatoes. The food was perfectly prepared and the chef stopped by the table to see how we enjoyed the meal. A nice find on our stopover in Lubbock. We would gladly eat here again.
Room was wonderful, nice quiet room, service was good, food was ok, not great, few people in the restaurant and our reservation was at 11:45 - and they had run our of baked sweet potatoes...some of the meat was tough, eatable but nothing spectacular. Waitresses were attentive and did a good job for the most part.
Tuna seared to perfection Chef Noxon, he continues to entertain my tastebuds. The different dried fruits only enhanced the meal. And the tomatoes had so much flavor, one would never guess that a vast majority of what he use in his edible creations are locally brought. Great food, awesome service..(Monica). And supporting the community. I love my life, and the people that been placed in it 💖👍🏿💖
A big hug and thanks to Chef Noxon for another marvelous culinary experience. And the hiring staff, I am continually amazed at your Star Associates. Giana was on point and made us feel as if we was family. Amazing all around, best part is that it's not pricey. Y'all need to check them out.
