Peasant Ratings and Reviews
Delicious food, great ambiance. The dining room & open kitchen were beautiful. Service was fine, not outstanding but also nothing to complain about. On the expensive side, but for such quality ingredients and a late Valentine's Day dinner, it was worth every penny! Great Soho location, too.
This is an extraordinarily authentic Italian restaurant so it felt a bit like a mini vacation! Food is quite brilliant- flavorful, hearty, yet refined, a sophisticated rendition of classic fare. It is a roaring celebratory space so one cannot have real conversation but most enjoyable
This is a true find in NYC where the chef owner works the line. It is rare to find quality like this at this price point. can't wait to go back and try some other stellar dishes. Squab is superb, tripe is authentic, cuttlefish was cooked perfectly, bread and complimentary fresh ricotta and olive oil hit the mark. Apple tart is lg. enough to share.
A local favorite and on our top5 list of best restaurants in NYC. Since 1999, Peasant has been one of the best gems of NYC! Amazing food, awesome service, friendly, fun, energetic, delicious and filling......... Fresh ingredients, fresh food, best desserts......... GO.
Peasant was incredible. My boyfriend and I agreed that it was some of the best Italian food we'd had in the city. The burrata was insanely fresh. We ordered the special appetizer which was a cauliflower au gratin with black truffle. It was unique and delicious. Both of our pastas were not only flavorful but it was clear that they were made in-house. The view of the wood-fire oven and kitchen made the restaurant feel extra cozy and intimate. 10/10 for us!
We found this restaurant on a whim and decided to make a reservation last minute.. There is no disappointment at Peasant. From the moment we walked through the door everything was delightful. We were early for dinner and greeted with pleasure... we had a couple drinks at the bar.. Bartender was one of the best in the restaurant business. All of the staff were attentive and hospitable. The meal was that of greatness, melt in your mouth type of dinner, so tasty and delicious. We will definitely be returning for another visit.
We had a group of six and I had made the reservations a couple weeks in advance. Our table was set up such that we were the first table in center of the three 'rows' of seating area. My husband sat across from me. Each time diners needed to go to their table, they needed to pass between him and a column just behind him to get to the rest of the dining room. He was bumped multiple times.
Myself, from my angle facing him, each time the bathroom doors opened I could see the commodes. In addition, being the first person at the first table, I found the breeze from the entranceway pretty distracting. I wore my coat for most of the meal.
The four others at our table were just fine. We did not complain or asked to be moved. It was Saturday and the restaurant was very busy.
It took a bit longer than usual to get our drink order taken, but our server suggested a fantastic wine. The dinner salad was fantastic and my gnocchi entree was out of this world. The lamb chops were just wonderful. The lobster risotto was a touch rich for the two diners in our party who ordered those, but it was stunning presentation and generous portions.
The restaurant is beautiful.
Service was lovely. Food was incredibly average esp for the price. Razor clam app was chewy and terrible, rabbit lasagna was way too rich and had very little pieces of rabbit, the skate was almost tasteless. Will never ever go again - too bad bc it’s a beautiful space
second time at Peasant. Food is always very good. Service this time was a little slow given the place was not busy when we arrived.
One bad thing was the wood stove was throwing off a lot of smoke to the point were we left quite quickly to get some fresh air. Last time it was not an issue so maybe a one-time thing.
Warm, friendly place.
The dishes we had were excellently prepared, tasty, and pretty sophisticated for a place called "Peasant." The service was superb; they seem to have a large and well-managed service staff. The room is noisy and the two-tops are close together so be prepared for buzz.
