Marc Forgione and his team deliver yet again with Peasant. After having spent many years going to Forge, as well as Khe-Yo and his steakhouse, we were so excited to try Peasant. Much like Forge, Peasant is inviting....feeling like you’re in someone’s Italian living room, but also making it feel special. Each bite of food was also something special - from the pastas to the meats and the wine selection, everything was delicious. I also highly recommend any dish with the wild boar.

Peasant was quite good before but it is now excellent. Even the wait staff seems to be at a different level. Could not recommend more.

Great meal! Beautiful space. Super attentive and friendly service. Subtracted a star bcs they served my daughter the wrong entree. She was too shy to speak up about it (and hungry). I will be back.

the minute you walk into this restaurant you know that you are going to have a terrific time. The ambience is one that is really re-created in New York City. The talented chef Mark, is at his best. From the delicious pasta dishes, to the mouthwatering apple crisp which is the best we ever had. Enjoy the evening with a great selection of wine. The wait staff is friendly and tries very hard to make your evening perfect! Enjoy

I read the reviews post-Forgione takeover. They were mixed so I gave it a try. The drink glasses - wine and water were filthy. It took FOREVER to get our drinks. The portions are very small - expensive for what they are. We got the beef as one of our dishes - it was fatty. The atmosphere suggests that you will have a rustic, hearty Italian meal. It was more like a fancy (not very good) Italian-ish meal, being consumed in a cabin in the woods. Our waitress was very nice and apologetic about the dirty glasses, etc., but the service was more like you would get in a busy diner (and the place wasn't that busy). Needless to say, I won't be going back. Pity because I loved the old Peasant.

Food was great and our waiter and her staff were amazing. They were very attentive all evening. The menu is limited. I do think the menu needs more choices for appetizers, salads and entrees.

Chef Marc Forgione has taken over Frank DiCarlo and Dulcinea Benson’s much loved restaurant and kept the good - cooking on fires, rustic and sincere Italian cooking- and added the energy of some new dishes and people. We now have another go-to Italian.

Somewhat pricy. The servers are wonderful and the food is awesome. I would recommend to my friends and family but let them know they should expect to spend a minimum of $250.00 for dinner for 2.

Tremendous experience! The decor, atmosphere, lighting, smells and space are just amazing, but pale in comparison to the staff and food! The menu is outstanding and presented in a clean, non-fussy way with tastes that are layered and full of positive surprises. Nothing we had was less than 5 stars and that goes for the staff as well. Front of the house, the bar, wait and bus service was exceptionally warm, even on a busy night, and we felt appreciated and never rushed! Be sure to get here and enjoy an wonderful meal and experience! We’ll be back.... and often!

It's not the old Peasant! But, change is good and this newly owned incarnation by Marc Forgione, has the legs to stand on. And as neighborhood guys and Peasant regulars, he has big shoes to fill in our opinion.

Went there the other night for the first time since it re-opened under the new ownership with a group of super critical friends - and the opinion was "two thumbs up". Although the menu reflected the feel of Peasant, the selections and their preparations were new. Marc has put his flair and spin on the food coming out of the kitchen and the presentation was beautiful. 1 of our friends even had an issue with the secondo she ordered and the staff remedied the problem quickly and without complaint.

Feels like they want to continue to be a local jaunt and that's a good thing.

So glad Marc Forgione took over this restaurant, as it needed to remain open (even if the razor clam appetizer no longer graces the menu). The food was amazing - had the octopus appetizer and the suckling pig as an entree, and my girlfriend had the chicken marsala. The staff was attentive and kind, and my girlfriend and I even got the chance to talk with Chef Forgione at the bar as we were walking out. Hadn't been to Peasant in a while, but we will return.

As fans of the old Peasant, we were saddened the originators were leaving, but hopeful upon hearing acclaimed chef Marc Forgione would be taking the helm. Last night, 3 of us visited the restaurant for our first time under his ownership. It likely was our last. Our disappointing experience was all the more puzzling knowing Mr. Forgione , a devotee of the restaurant, had promised to honor the legacy of Mr. DeCarlo's and Ms. Benson's delightful creation. Sadly, that doesn't seem to be the case. The stripped-down menu feels joyless and perfunctory. Pricing is out of touch; a basic Caesar salad was nicely prepared, but for $19 didn't impress. Similarly, $22 for four ravioli funghi was simply absurd. The baby octopus appetizer was, the server excitedly told us, prepared in Peasant's renowned wood oven, but arrived in a covered casserole, with no hint of the smokiness that oven adds. The two of us who ordered linguini and clams agreed it had nice flavor, but dripped with oil. Bread service comprises a small basket of unheated focaccia. The kitchen also seems to have a heavy hand with red pepper, heat being present in several of the dishes we ordered as well as the spread for the focaccia. It's a common crutch in lazy kitchens. We passed on secondi for the simple reason nothing looked particularly appealing. All in, the check was well over $60 per person for 3 antipasti, 2 primi and 4 glasses of wine. We're part of a group of friends who regularly dine all over the spectrum- from Michelin stars to food trucks. Our North Star is not price, but value. In view of the uninspired, expensive cooking at Mr. Forgione's incarnation of Peasant, I'm sad to say we don't feel a return visit will be warranted.

3 out of 4 of us arrive on time for our 6pm early dinner. We were declined to be seated even the restaurant was empty, waited 10-15min before the host decided it was OK to seat us. Our waiters was nice and attentive. Appetizers was great but the main course ( Secondi) is pretty small in portion. Our fish was over cooked and dry.

As a regular for the past 20 years, Friday evening was our first time back to Peasant since Marc took over. A wonderful experience!! It was a unique evening to be at such a familiar venue and at the same time have the opportunity to try the new menu coupled with some Peasant mainstays. Marc and staff did not disappoint. Marc brings his magnificent touch to the rustic menu, and the service was more attentive than ever. The food was simply WOW!!
