Peasant Ratings and Reviews
The Truffle Risotto - molto bene!
Pricey but definitely worth tasting.
Best dish of the night was the Dry Aged
T bone steak shared with the Veal Ragu,Bone Marrow. The drink menu needs a little love but other than that it was a cute place to have dinner and we were all content with our meals
My boyfriend and I came here for a romantic date night. The wait staff was great, always there to help clear an empty plate and our waiter was very helpful in telling us about portion sizes and menu specials. We ended up ordering the pig's head, which, if you are an adventurous eater, is 100% worth it. Overall I was extremely happy and can't wait for us to come back again.
The suckling pig, a specialty that you have to reserve in advance, was bland and unappealing, the meat under-seasoned (e.g. a tiny touch of thyme came through but not enough to do what it should) and the seared suckling pig rib on top had eye appeal but seemed to have been coating with some "searing mixture" that had a artificial taste to it. The apple pie was pushed: "We use lady apples, you know what lady apples are, and we carmelize...." etc. etc. Well, the apple part of the pie was mush, sort of like apple sauce mixed with flour, and the crust which, again, had eye appeal had shortening flavor that wasn't tasty instead of being a buttery crust. It's an appealing looking place with a big open kitchen --NYC Italian Peasant -- but the food is disappointing. No re0do here.
I have eaten at Peasant before. Unfortunately this was not a good experience. The waitress was cold and a tad blunt. The steak I had was tender but tasteless. The fish was tasty. The beans were a tad tasteless. Unfortunately, with so many great options in New York I won’t be back
A gem. Probably the best restaurant I’ve been to in years. To see an owner/chef actually working his tail off is a rarity. Frank D was pumping out some the best (real) Italian food East of Italy. The service was superb; from the gents downstairs in the wine bar to service upstairs. The staff was engaging, knowledgeable about the product and enthusiastic in their craft and place of business.
We cannot wait to up to the city again enjoy this place. It’s what a restaurant should be, simple but elegant and attentive to detail and clientele.
The food here was stunning! The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars and not 5 stars for food is because although the lobster risotto was amazingly flavorful, the rice was al dente and not as creamy as I would have liked. Otherwise amazing food and amazing time!
The food was great- but they asked if I was finished with my pasta course three or four times. I almost asked the last guy if he was f'ing with me. There was plenty of food on my plate- it was pretty clear they just wanted to move us on to the next course. Lame. I've seen more conscientious hospitality in a diner. We had an early reservation on a saturday night and towards the end the restaurant started filling up and it really felt like they wanted us out of there. It was not subtle. It really killed the whole experience.
A friend recommended this place and she was so right. They were very friendly and seated us immediately with reservation. Seats are wooden chairs so not super comfy for people with bad backs like me but I was able to ignore that because the food was so good. Salad was delicious. Both our enters were wonderful. We made new friends sitting next to us so, close seating turned out to be a pleasant plus. Service was excellent and friendly. Their Woodfired oven was pumping out some great looking pizza. Did not have dessert but they looked yummy. Prices a bit high but on par with other good eateries in New York. Dress is casual.
Great food in a great restaurant. Staff are wonderful, all recommendations gratefully received and were perfect. It's a buzzing, vibrant atmosphere, lots of fun, while retaining an authentic look and feel. The food is exemplary, a great wine list, and excellent cocktail options. We love this place. We've been many times and will continue to visit whenever we are in New York.
We had a small problem when we got there for our reservation (for 4) and the table wasn't ready for another 30 minutes. In exchange for our wait they comped is two appetizers which I felt was very generous. The wait staff was super attentive, the food came out cooked perfectly and hot, and the ambience was just damn cool.
10/10 would eat again
I've never dined at the restaurant before but I decided to try this out for a business dinner based on the good reviews. I'm so pleased that I did!! Everyone at the dinner was so happy with the atmosphere, service and especially food! They weren't a group of people who are easy to please when it comes to restaurants/food - FYI. I definitely recommend this restaurant!
Very loud. Pretentious servers. Good food, though. But all three of us had terrible heartburn later and the next day we were running to the bathroom multiple times (not pretty...). And we eat out a lot and eat a lot of different cuisines (meaning our stomachs are used to a lot). I wouldn't recommend this place and won't go back.
Peasant was okay. I wasn't impressed with any of the dishes we had. The pizza was pizza, nothing special. The sea urchin pasta wasn't impressive. The restaurant was extremely loud. I thought they had a very limited menu. Overall it was just very average and not somewhere I would go again.
