The staff was friendly & helpful, e.g. recommended half portions so that we would not miss out on delicious appetizers. Cocktails were fine. The gnocchi dish was fine. The fish & chips dish was lack-lustre, however. Was as expected overall, but not outstanding.
The restaurant environment is very good , hope to have more main course.
Always good food and attentive and friendly service.
Have two friends visiting from England and we went to the restaurant for dinner. I have always found it excellent, but my guests were absolutely delighted. Mussels, calamari and chicken livers for starters were so delicious they were shared. We all had the pork which was superb. One slight criticism, some mashed potatoes with the pork would have made it spectacular. A lovely evening, good wine, excellent service. Thank you.
We started with the Duck Bruschetta and all 3 of us were able to sample each other's mains. My Salmon was delicious but I was surprised to find the squash mixed in with my forbidden rice. Still very tasty. My daughter's Brisket was very good and tender. My brother had the Skrei Cod and he seemed to enjoy it but it wasn't very visually appealing.
First two things me and my boyfriend ordered where very good, we got the charcherie board and the duck bruschetta. After that we got the calamari which was so salty our mouths burned. It was awful. Then followed with the meatballs, they tasted undercooked and overly chewy. I told the waiter we where unhappy and he left the food on the table and didn't offer or suggest another option. Although we where extremely happy with the first two selections and the atmosphere we left very disappointed with a high bill. We will not be going back.
My husband and I just dined at the Peasant Cookery on our anniversary. They gave us a lovely table and served a delicious meal. Service was excellent. The ambiance and quality of the food has consistently been exceptional over the years.
Have had several dinners at this restaurant. When booking on Open Table it always show full but many tables open for almost 3 hours when we have been there. Had the cod several times and this time it was VERY over done. Mentioned it to waitress and "sorry" was the response. At those prices "sorry" is not then only thing expected.
Add on cheese was the equivalent to a teaspoon of blue cheese.
Fantastic gem in Winnipeg. Must haves include the Pork, charcuretie board and the Beet salad (unreal). Service was amazing! Favourite spot in Winnipeg.
My brother was in from out of town and asked that we reserve here as we had gone a year earlier. The food and service were top notch. We were allowed to sit Andrew talk after dinner without feeling rushed. I liked the lamb pie with curry. The salmon was excellent as well according to all reports. The half chicken was great as well according to my wife.
This was not our first visit and as always we were very satisfied. We always seem to come back to this place for special occasions. Highly recommended for all around value. Not too loud. The decor is simple but interesting with all the jars of canned goods. Reminds us of the 'good old days.
Like the restaurant. Staff very friendly as well . The gnocchi was lovely
Absolutely amazing food. Everything tasted delicious, was well done and the ambiance is so nice and romantic. The staff are attentive and friendly. Very good at recommending wines you might like!
We didn't do the place justice. After our mussels and fries appetizer and beat salads we hit the wall. Next time we'll do a main dish. service and food were both excellent. Loved the atmosphere.
One of our favourite restaurants. Nice ambiance and good food. Service was prompt and attentive. Lovely waitress!
We had the tourtiere and shepards pie. Loved the twists they put on classic dishes. The portions were really generous too!
I had the half chicken as my entree. It was more like a quarter chicken and not very flavourful. The chicken piece sat on a bed of something unidentifiable. The leek bread pudding was the only really tasty part.
went out for a delayed Valentines day date! got a lovely seat at the window and had just a terrific time! service was impeccible and very helpful in deciding our entries. the salmon was one of the best I have ever had! my husband had the tourtierre that was recommended by the waiter. it was about 3" high and he loved it! great wine options as well. we will be back again!!
Our server was amazing. Very much there but discreet. Meatballs were recommended but seemed too spicy for our guys. She tried to help and then asked the kitchen to refund. Excellent.
Will definitely be back.
Great place. The maple chicken was amazing! Very romantic vibe.
Beet salad was excellent! Bacon gravy poutine was good not great. Salmon was overcooked and pickerel was okay.
Service was very good, ambiance was ok.
I had the cedar plank salmon and it was delicious. Everything it was served with was also wonderful! My husband had the bison meat loaf which was also excellent
Amazing food! Fantastic service! We have already recommended to friends and will be back.
Great service. Yummy raw oysters. A new taste in wine! A great meal. What more could you ask for. Really enjoyed the evening.
Great meal as usual! We got a charcuterie board and were very happy with the cheeses our server chose for us!
Great service and fantastic meal! Lovely experience and would definitely return as well as recommend!
We had the charcuterie board and the buck a shuck oysters... both so VERY delicious!
This is one of our favorite places for dinner before going to the theatre. Staff are polite and friendly. Food is always top notch. Keep up the good service, it is appreciated.
Our service tonight was exceptional and the mussels were outstanding!
Overall a great evening. The chicken livers appetizer a bit undercooked. The steak was pricy for a poor cut. The meatballs amazing and the desert was awesome. Will definitely go back and try other items.
I enjoyed my meal. It was a cod fish dish. I did find the menu a bit limited. We found it hard to hear each other as the noise level where we sat was high. Past experiences with seating were better. I’d insist on a different seating area next time.
Peasant Cookery has been our go-to restaurant for special occasions for years. It's French distro ambience and menu always please us. We took our son and his girlfriend for our son's 22nd birthday dinner. My wife and I shared two appetizer salads for variety. The best and go at cheese salad was fantastic. The house salad was a little too acidic. I ordered the chicken livers as my main. They were fantastic. Hadn't had them in years. My wife and our 2 guests all ordered mussels. Between two orders there were at least 9 dead mussels. We brought this to our waiter's attention. He handled it so professionally and brought us another if order. The goat cheese cake was to die for. Yay for lactose-low goat cheese. The bread pudding was small but satisfying. All in All, a great meal.
Food was excellent. Portion choices are an excellent idea. Our server was a gem!
Four friends had dinner before theatre. These are my thoughts. Beet salad was very good. Tourtiere had a very strong taste. I would have preferred a lighter touch on the spices but others may like it just fine. Desserts were great. Creme Brulee was among the best I've had. Decor was nice, but the noise level got very high as the place filled up. Service was prompt and friendly. Prices were beyond what peasants could afford but fair for the quality. I would definitely recommend Peasant Cookery to others and hope to return some day.
Unique dishes. Amazing flavors. I recommend sharing dishes in order to try more.
It was great to have our appetizer choices of soup and salad divided so that both of us could enjoy tasting each. Our server suggested it and was very attentive throughout the meal. That was a highlight.
Was there with my wife and two daughters for a family get together.
Food ,atmosphere and service was outstanding. We will be back for sure.
Food was unique and well-prepared... the striploin steak was a bit over-seasoned for my taste but my wife thought it was perfect. Service was fantastic, and our server was friendly without being artificial, knowledgeable, and the only real complaint we had was that it was cold. Maybe par for the course when in Winnipeg in January... total bill was a bit over $100 for two (shared charcuterie platter, one pasta main and one steak main, as well as a couple of drinks), so reasonably priced for a nice evening out. We’d go back!
While we had a nice lunch friends from Portland the accoustics are very bad. There was a large table across from us who were very very loud. Very distracting and annoying
Excellent! Nice food, nice wine card. Bilingual staff. Very friendly personnel. Typical French Canadian food: tourtiere! Nice ambience!
