Peasant Cookery Ratings and Reviews
The service was very attentive and the waitress knew her menu well. She was able to describe the different dishes we asked about and gave sound recommendations based on our preferences. The food was delicious and well prepared. The deconstructed cheese cake dessert was outstanding. We will be back.
This was my first time going to this restaurant, and I was celebrating my birthday. The food presentation was really exceptional and the food was tasty and came out with perfect timing. Our waitress was very friendly. Would go back as there are items on the menu I would like to try.
The service from start to finish was world class. Our server made appropriate recommendations and suggestions for wine, beer, and food. He and the manager engaged one person in our party in a conversation about her disappointment in the lack of Cdn wines avail on the wine list. Above all, we appreciated the attention to detail at our table, specifically providing the flatware needed for each of our food items and not requiring us to reuse flatware for multiple courses. Overall, a phenomenal experience. Thank you!!
I had the bison meatloaf - it was tasty and very filling. I'm surprised that such a popular restaurant does not have daily specials. Their menu hasn't changed in a few years; it's time they did alter it. I go here because it's close to MTC. In winter it has a cozy feel.
Second time we've been to Peasant Cookery in the last couple years and we were reminded why we love this restaurant so much and wish we could come more often! Incredible service, from the management to the servers. They really take care of you and know their food. Obviously the food is top notch and great wine selection. Great ambience, not too loud not too quiet. Can't wait for our third visit!
This was my second visit to this establishment. First visit was for an office Christmas party and to be honest, I didn't think I would ever go back but decided to give it a second chance and glad that I did.
This time, with friends prior to a show at the playhouse theatre. We all loved that we were asked if we were headed anywhere afterwards and when we said yes, we were asked what time we would like to be out of there. They timed everything perfectly! Staff was awesome, everyone was very impressed with their meals from the clam pasta dish, to the gnocchi, beef brisket, and the amazing fish and sticks. Now I can honestly say, can't wait to go back.
The service was horribly slow. It seemed like we had been forgotten about. Three of our four drinks were brought out first (after a long delay) and the last one took another 10 minutes and required a reminder. The wine bottle wasn't kept near our table and we had to ask for refills (which we would have done if the bottle was near). One of our meals (Tourtière) was completely black on the outside, the pork was fatty and bland. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere though so it was a shame that the service and food will keep us away.
We choose not to have appetizers. I had the Tourtiere. I have always shied away from eating this in the past when I have gone to other restaurants. Going on the waitresses suggestion, I tried it and was not disappointed. It was absolutely amazing. I was spoiling myself that evening and order fries with gravy. These are the good old kind of fries with skins on and the gravy was quite unique and flavourable. Too much food for me, but I had leftovers for lunch.
My husband had the Berkshire Pork, again something he has never tried before. The pork melted in your mouth and said it was the best pork he has ever tasted. Again extremely flavourable.
Lastly for dessert, I had the bread pudding. It was a night of trying new things and no regrets except for probably the extra calories. It was absolutely delicious.
Only reason why a mark off, is the hostess was more concerned about the messages on her machine than greeting us.
We loved our experience there. The food and the service we received from our server was exceptional. The only downfall would be the noise. We were a group of 8 (4 people on either side of a long table) and it was nearly impossible to hear the person 3 or 4 people down from you. That part was a little frustrating. Aside from the though, great place. Food was impeccable!
The food here usually is very good. On this occasion, I was disappointed with the Berkshire Pork. While the sous vide technique cooked the meat very nicely, the overall flavour of the meat was bland. The spatzle were overpowered by a sauce that did not really compliment the pork.
That having been said, the vast majority of my meals at Peasant Cookery have been fantastic. You can't win them all....
The food was fabulous. I'm going to copy the butter lettuce, pork belly, potato & Parmesan salad. Aged cheddar gnocchi was very good. Pork chop was enormous, but once you cut away the fat left on for cooking, it was a generous, normal, very moist chop. Nice wine list, tho wish had more Okanagan Valley wines. (Local food deserves "local wine."). Decor is not romantic, as some described. Odd combination of old, dark wood w/ Formica tables and paper napkins. Service was pleasant and enthusiastic, if unsophisticated. Worth your time. Do it.
