Pearl's Saltwater Grille Ratings and Reviews
I had family visiting from Atlanta who loved seafood. They all raved about their meals and each was better than the next! We had so much food that dessert wasn't required but conversation flowed around the good food Service was quick and pleasant. Special mention of the basket of hush puppies - some of the best I've ever had!
One of my favorite restaurants in Savannah, but not a good night. Perhaps the large group in attendance compromised the usual routinely high level of service and food quality. Some things up to usual standards: hot hush puppies and crusted salmon salad and baked potato. Fried oysters and shrimp, not so much, especially the oysters.
Honestly, it's quite a shame. The atmosphere and view were amazing. But then the service left quite a bit too be desired, and the food was sub par. If I had to do it again, Pearls Saltwater Grille would be nothing more than a pit stop. Grab a few drinks, enjoy the view, and then leave for dinner someplace else.
The building is very nice, with high ceilings, huge windows, and natural wood beams. The food was very good and a refreshing variety of people - young and old, black and white.
crossing the street from the parking area is a little dangerous. Cars on the road are moving faster than you would expect.
I had crab stuffed flounder. My meal was entirely too salty. I think in an attempt to season it, since seasonings often contain salt (anything with a suffix of -ate is a salt - not just NaCl), I think the chef "over did it." I have been there years before and did not have this experience. The crab cake appetizer was not too salty. Place was noisier than I expected even with my hearing aids turned down.
The food was over-priced and nothing special...started w/a dozen oysters, several of which were nearly invisible. Most places would throw a few extra on or not give you the smaller ones....Nope, not here.... My daughter had the scallops and I had the black & blue tuna special. The portions were generous, but the scallops were slightly over-cooked and the tuna was lacking any seasoning. Most everything was very generic and lacking sufficient seasoning. The bleu cheese sauce was a good idea (for the tuna), but they didn't quite pull it off. $100 for 2 including tip.... many places in Savannah where your $$$ would be better spent. The view is nice, the location of the restaurant, not the best either.
WOW! By that, I mean "wow". Everything perfect. The salads had been a minor sore spot, but the Caeser salad tonight was fresh crisp Romaine with delicious dressing and shaved fresh shaved parm (not shredded or ground), giving the option to manage easily one's parm intake according to personal preferences. This is a restaurant with a diverse menu. It has numerous choices of different things, from fried seafood to broiled or steamed seafood, to raw oysters, and other choices as well. This restaurant is so well run that the operators should have their own culinary training program for chefs and restaurant managers. And you can't beat the views.
Made our reservations online, requested a table by the water, for a special occasion. Everything was PERFECT. The food was hot and delicious. They even allowed us to bring in our Birthday Day Cake!!!
The waiter was great. We will go back. Enjoyed it very much.
We have eaten at Pearl's often and have generally been very happy with the food and the service. They make really good cocktails. However, for this visit the food was not as good as on our previous visits. My grandson and I had the shrimp and crab meat au gratin, as it is my favorite menu item at Pearl's. The meal was a big disappointment for my grandson, for whom I had suggested this particular dish, as the au gratin was poorly prepared and lacked the flavor I have become accustomed to enjoying. Of the six of us dining, only my wife's meal of scallops was viewed favorably. We might not return to Pearl's.
This is a nice restaurant a few miles away from crowded downtown Savannah. The front of the restaurant is small from the outside but it is huge once you get in. Most tables are at or near windows looking to the water. Ample parking at the restaurant. No waiting. We were seated at our reservation time. Good, fast service.
A special place to go. We tend to take out-of-town guests here for the incredible march views. It's especially nice right before sunset when the light on the marsh is magical.
The food is very good; we think it lacks imagination and could use some more aggressive use of herbs, but it's certainly reliable. Lots of window tables.
For entrées we ordered the shrimp and grits and stuffed fish with crab. I had glanced over a few reviews so I ordered a cup of she crab soup to try it out because all of the reviews rave about it. It did not disappoint! Additionally we were brought out a basket of hush puppies that were perfectly golden brown and served up with an herb butter that was delicious. Truthfully, these were the best hush puppies I've had in years. The flavor was perfect and they were not dry at all. For a little variety I even dunked them in to the soup. I really couldn't stop eating them and there were quite a few in the basket.
Our entrées came really quickly. My fish was perfectly prepared and not only was it stuffed with crab but there was additional crab next to the Rice that easily amounted to quite a few ounces of crab I was pretty impressed. The only change I made to the dish was scrapping the asparagus in lieu of the mixed vegetables, including zucchini, squash, and carrots.
The shrimp and grits contained decent sized shrimp wrapped with bacon and an occasional bit of andouille sausage. The grits were creamy and delicious as well.
Although I was relatively stuffed I ordered the peach cobbler. I must preface by saying that I truly love desserts and this did not disappoint! It was served warm in a special ramekin with crumbly cobbler and whole peach slices. Ice cream was served on the side which was perfect topped with whipped cream. Needless to say I made room!
As for the ambience, the restaurant is of medium noise level the tables are not really isolated all that much although there is some separation and each table does have a candle on it which is a nice touch of course. Just before we received our entrée, we were able to go out onto the deck and take some really nice pictures even though the sun had already gone down.
If am ever in the area again I will definitely revisit this fine restaurant.
