Pearl Raw Bar Ratings and Reviews
Server Hannah was excellent, very friendly and attentive. A couple of excessively loud diners (maybe slightly intoxicated?) but did not detract from the food. Excellent oyster selection. Did not take a long time for orders so worked very well before theatre. We will definitely return.
Oysters were great, entrees were pretty good. Hanger steak was slightly overcooked. Rockfish was a tiny filet including skin and bloodline, nothing else on the plate had any flavor. Tuna and mussels were excellent. Shrimp tacos were the best. Service on a slow Tuesday night could have been faster, but our server Hannah was friendly and accommodating.
We reserved two tables - one for 6 and another for 5. Pearl was able to combine the tables for our birthday dinner for a friend. The drink and beer selections are always interesting, the appetizers and food choices are varied - and the oysters are always fresh and delicious.
Because of the size of our party (11 total), there were three (3) servers who supported our evening. Each of them were attentive, courteous and very prompt in fulfilling any request.
I would recommend Pearl very highly for a casual evening of good drink and food with friends.
We went for Saturday brunch for my mother-in-law’s birthday. I was really impressed by the menu variety and how nice the restaurant is inside— I hadn’t been since it was DeLuxe back in the day. My eggs Benedict were delicious. I also got a side of sausage which was charred to death, but I ate it cuz I was pretty hungry. I didn’t get a drink, but my husband and his mom enjoyed their bloodies. I think I would definitely go back- it didn’t seem to be super crowded which is always a plus. I also would go back to try watching football there. The TVs seem to be placed nicely so everyone can watch. All in all, a really good meal!
The oysters are always outstanding, as is the tuna and avocado appetizer. This was my first time having the rockfish and it was so flavorful. A little disappointing that they took off the tofu crab cake, as it left our vegan friend with only one option, the black bean tacos. He did say it was one of the best things he had recently in a restaurant.
We with 2 other couples for Restaurant Week. One of the offerings was fried chicken - Pearl's being a seafood restaurant, I had never had the fried chicken (too happy with the seafood offerings we'd had many, many times). Four of the six of us had the friend chicken and ALL agreed it was delicious. So, another reason to try Pearl's - even if you don't like seafood!
I have been to Pearl Raw Bar several times for dinner, and went this past weekend for Sunday brunch for the first time. Pearl has been consistent during each of my visits, and continuously serves delicious food. The waitstaff has been excellent each time. I have made reservations, but have found them to not be necessary at the times I have gone.
I have have never been to Pearl before this evening but it came VERY, highly recommended. We had a party of 8 for my girlfriends birthday. Our server, Julia, I believe was great, took good care of us. The food was Phenomenal but something was different, in the past it was packed, all tables full, people waiting in line. This Saturday night the bar was half way busy and we were the only people eating. We didn't mind at the moment, we had our own little party. The downfall of the night was when my girlfriend, the birthday girl, found a hair on her plate. Hey, it happens but then we all watched a mouse scurry around underneath the neighboring booth. The mouse even stayed long enough for our waitress to come see it. Like I said the food and drinks were great and I would love to come back but I don't know if i can get past the hair and mouse.
Had never been to Pearl and decided to give it a try as someone I'm dating was coming into town and she loves oysters. I'm not an oyster person despite loving most seafood. Ah, but that is no longer the case. We ordered a dozen oysters, along with bacon oyster shooters. I thoroughly enjoyed the shooter. The oysters were good too. My only thought is that there are so many oysters from around the U.S. and Canada that I know to be good, but the selection here was limited. No P.E.I's or west coast of the U.S. or Canada on offer. We also ordered cocktails which were good. As for entrees, she had the lobster roll and I had the crab cake sandwich. First, the lobster roll...it was okay. She prefers the lobster to be slightly warmed and I agree. The bun was buttery and tasty and it had a nice amount of lobster meat on it. The crab cake sandwich was nothing out of the ordinary. It didn't fill the bun which annoys me. Either cut back on the bun size or make the crab cake slightly larger. The good part was it was mostly crab with very little filler. I'm allergic to onions and peppers and thankfully they don't add that as a filler in their crab cakes. Over all, it was good. We'd go back for the shooters and oysters. Booths are uncomfortable as there are no cushions to sit on. Not sure what that's about other than not wanting to spend money on them, but seating comfort would be nice.
We really loved the "neighborhood bistro" vibe of this bar- it was welcoming without being pretentious or fawning, we were well tended but never put upon by the staff, and the food and drink was great. When the waitress accidentally brought us Brussels sprouts instead of the Mussels we ordered, she immediately corrected the mistake and also left us with the truly terrific Brussels sprouts. Definite bonus that we never expected.
I'd definitely head back in a heartbeat, and would recommend it to friends looking for a great date night or group outing.
Always a fantastic time at Pearl raw bar, good drinks, the oysters are fantastic and an amazing deal at happy hour. The hush puppies are such a great find too. Taylor did a great job being our server. If you haven't checked this place out you definitely should. There are several good seafood restaurants in Richmond but this is my favorite.
Pearl is one of my favorites in Richmond and usually, I give it glowing reviews! The exception this time was that our server was really kind of rude. She hardly said three words to us, never made eye contact, walked away from us before we even finished speaking, never checked in after we got our meals, never refilled drinks, and slammed our checks on the table just a few minutes after we got our food. It was very strange. We tried to give her the benefit of the doubt but it was definitely a buzzkill to our get together; especially since it was the first time some of the people in our party of 6 had been there. I found myself stammering to standup for one of my RVA favs!
Third time there in 3 years when we visit friends in Richmond. First 2 times this place was very good; this time had a hard problem eating due to so many flies. They left these big doors open for ventilation and flies had fun with everyone in the back room.
After a disastrous last date night at another restaurant in the fan, my husband and I were reluctant to try something else trendy in the fan right at going-out time. Pearl's was a pleasant surprise! Food and drinks arrived quickly even though they were pretty crowded and there were several large groups eating. The hush puppies were delicious and had some kind of butter I would pay good money to get at home. We both ordered the mahi tacos for dinner. I wasn't excited about the corn relish, because I'm not a big fan of corn, but it was pickled or had some kind of brine on it that made it really stand out.
