The food was bad, not sickeningly bad, just third rate. The service was bad, not make you throw a fork bad, just third rate. I had to reassemble my chair as the armrest was disconnected when I arrived at the table. There is no reason to go here - there are several other very fine restaurants in the area - unless you are from out of town and don't know any better or everything else is booked. Why, you may ask, would I go there? Because I forgot. I hadn't been there in years and as soon as my food arrived I remembered - oh, right, this dreck. On the other hand the Twin Cities only has a few good Italian restaurants and Pazzaluna IS slightly better than the Olive Garden. Overall, this is a great restaurant to bring your kids to, to teach them about dining out without spending too much money, in an ambiance that a child would think adults would like.

New Year’s Eve dinner.
Server, Christina was very courteous, accommodating, and knowledgeable of menu items, and sympathetic to our dismay of having to listen to an awful music experience during dinner. She helped to make dinner bearable.

Unfortunately someone in management made a poor decision and arranged for an individual singer to perform in the bar area. Which has no sound barrier wall between the bar and restaurant. This singer had two large speakers and a karaoke style machine that was set on extremely (and I mean extremely) loud volume. It was way too loud for the ambience. Plus, the selection of music played and sung was not appropriate for dinner music. He played loud selections of rock and roll from the 1970’s and 80’s. He didn’t even sing any Italian song, or what you would call soft dinner music. It was not a pleasant dinner experience!!!!

It just took away from an expected romantic New Year’s Eve dinner experience. Ugh!

We’ve celebrated and enjoyed many special occasions at Pazzaluna and we would like to continue to do so.

However, we probably won’t take a chance on the next New Year’s Eve dinner.

We were seated at the time of our reservation. The hostess went out of her way to give us a table by the window. The holiday lights were so beautiful. We ordered right away, and the food came out hot! Everything was delicious! The risotto was just right and the brisket fell away from the bone!! I can't wait for another occasion to go and eat at Pazzaluna.

I think I went into dinner with very high expectations because this restaurant came highly recommended. While the appetizers and desserts were phenomenal both of us were underwhelmed by our entrees. I ordered the mushroom ravioli, the sauce was greasy and runny and the ravioli were flat. My dining companion had the rigatoni with fire roasted tomatoes and it was way too strong! It tasted like a dish prepared in a kitchen burned in a house fire. Both of us has just a few bites of the entree, but the upside was that we had room for dessert. The tiramisu and creme brûlée were delicious!!

Our server was great, the restaurant was beautiful, but our table was between two others and we were basically all seated together it was so close. I ended up having conversations with the people on both sides of us, luckily they were nice!

Overall, I enjoyed the experience, but I wouldn’t rush back.

I don't typically do this, however our experience at Pazzaluna was so disappointing I simply have to share.
I planned the perfect night for our family - get dressed up, make the long haul to the city (we're in the 'burbs), have a beautiful dinner & finally attend Annie at the Ordway.
Our server was good, but clearly very busy. Our food took a long time to arrive and when it did, my veal was cold to the touch, so chewy I couldn't even cut through it with a steak knife. I reluctantly told our server. He took it back and even the chef said it was still raw. Gross.
Our server insisted he bring a fresh one even though we had no time to wait for it. I told him not to worry about it so instead he offered to pay for our DRINKS, throw in free desserts for the family following the play AND assured us that he would include the fresh veal in our to-go box and we could pick it up following the play. I went to the play still hungry.
Well, after the play we arrived back at the restaurant with no veal to be found anywhere, the manager join duty claimed to know nothing about the incident and she only offered up a free dessert to have in the restaurant at that time. Our kids are 5 and 8 years old and it was 11PM...it wasn't going to happen. She was basically rude to us and did NOTHING to rectify the situation. We left SO disappointed and I still very, very hungry. The manager on duty also promised me a call from the General Manager the following day. Its now been 2 weeks and I have not heard from anyone. Oh! I almost forgot...when we went back to look at the receipt from the evening, the veal was taken off and 1 glass of wine. We still paid in full for the children's drinks, and 2 other adult beverages.
Sounds silly, but what was supposed to be a "perfect" family night out (My Christmas gift to them), was spoiled from this incident. At least half of it was. The play was fantastic.
We will not be back and could never recommend this restaurant.

Disappointed is how I would rate the experience. I’ve been here three times before and have had a nice time each time. This time was different. I made a reservation for 5pm and asked for a booth. When we arrived there were at least a dozen booths open, yet we were seated at the one closet to the door in subzero temps. Throughout our coursed meal we routinely were left without silverware for the food. I was also served a drink in a dirty glass with lipstick on it. Based on all of this I probably won’t return.

The gnocchi is "to die for"! Love the authentic Italian cuisine in an open and vibrant setting. Great wine choices for pairing with the pasta, and love being able to make reservations and get in and out before a show or hockey game. We will be back!

The hostess set us at a booth right by the door and it was very cold, when we asked if we could move she acted very put out . She moved us to a tiny table in the back corner, Near the floor vents that were blowing cold air! Our food had good flavor ( spaghetti and meatballs were delicious, the meatballs had a nice spicy flavor ) but was served at a lukewarm temperature.

while it was christmas eve, and the restaurant was busy, there were lots of available two-top tables available when we arrived. We were sat in a busy walk-way directly over a vent that was blowing cold air. Even after pointing this out to the host, she offered to throw a carpet square over the vent but it didn't help much. by the end of our dinner, my feet and legs were so cold. i was uncomfortable the entire meal but the hostesses reluctance to seat us elsewhere initially was very off putting and embarrassing. i rarely make a fuss; i should have this time. it ruined our night. in addition, our server took our order and poured our drinks from over the rail that we were sat by rather than walking to the other side of our table on the same level as us.

Made reservations 6 weeks in advance for Christmas Eve. Had been previously on Christmas Eve and had a top notch experience. This year was vastly different. Seated in a booth in the kitchen area. It’s an open kitchen with tile floor. Extremely loud with banging plates and chefs yelling to each other. Very warm. Hard to have a conversation. Unable to accommodate our request for a different table. The server was nice but did not do the things you expect at a restaurant of this caliber. She did not suggest appetizers, ask if we would like a salad with dinner or ask if we’d like another cocktail. The food was good but we probably would’ve ordered more expensive entrees if the ambiance was better. If they are going to seat people there for a special occasion, they should inform them ahead of time so the customer could have the option of finding alternative plans. It took a full 20 minutes to get our car from valet parking, during which we were squeezed into the hostess area with many others. Servers were coming through with dirty dishes.

We were so excited for a festive evening at Pazzaluna and left very disappointed. My husband is a business owner in downtown St. Paul who has hosted several client functions at Pazzaluna. He will not do that again for fear of a repeat subpar performance.

This restaurant has been in this location for years and deals with Ordway patrons and performances every day. The excuse that tables are overbooked when I made a reservation days in advance was inexcusable and reflects poor management. The manager made a nice effort by providing a round of cocktails while we waited 45 minutes. However, we were an hour behind our own (non show) schedule, the waiter was inattentive and the food was poor. I am a foodie and have eaten at a number of outstanding metro restaurants. This food was comparable to Olive Garden cuisine at St Paul Grill prices.
I will not return.

We had a family dinner at Pazzaluna after attending a matinee at The Ordway. We got seated early which was great because we had a hungry 6 year old with us! The restaurant is really warm and beautiful, bustling, smells great. We grabbed a glass of wine at the bar before being seated and didn't wait long for our table (I highly recommend a reservation--I'm glad we had one!). Our waitress was fantastic--very attentive, kind, friendly, never made us feel hurried. The food was delicious and we ordered appetizers as well as entrees, wine, dessert. There were 8 of us and I was pleasantly surprised when I got the bill--it was very reasonable. It's an "energetic" atmosphere, so it was hard to converse with those down the table, but not impossible. I highly recommend it and would like to go again and eat at the bar.

The food is always amazing here but the seating staff checked us in for our reservation and forgot about us for 20 minutes and seated the family of 4 that came after us first. Then although several tables were open they seated us at the table with a draft so strong it was blowing my hair around and our glasses were dirty. I think if you work at that nice of a restaurant you should take care of the patrons better.
