Pazzaluna Urban Italian Restaurant & Bar
The award-winning and critically acclaimed Bar at Pazzaluna Urban Italian is an energetic and fun place to meet after work, before an event at the Ordway, Xcel Energy Center, Roy Wilkins Auditorium or just to unwind with family, friends, clients or business associates.
During warm weather, relax on the patio and enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown St. Paul (patio open May through September). See for yourself, you'll be glad you did.
We wanted to try different restaurants during restaurant week. Overall, we felt that the food was less then good. We had a reservation and we sat 20 minutes past the time of our reservation. The food was something we could have bought at Cub foods and made it ourselves. After we ate we thought we would just have a drink at their bar. Sadly they miscalculated are bar bill and we knew that the bartenders were playing us. We are never ones to complain but this made us very sad. We won’t be going back.....
We ate here before a show at Xcel which we noted in the reservation and they were great about seating us promptly when we arrived and keeping the meal moving without feeling rushed. Service was excellent, very personable and polite. The food was not good at all though, only ordered the mussels and bruschetta as apps intending to order more later but the bread and apps were so bad that we decided to just finish our wine and head to the concert early. Disappointing meal, but would come again for wine before an event at the Xcel.
Great baked penne special with a gimlet that is strong enough to forget one’s worries. Thoroughly enjoyed.
Always great food and service. Our server was fantastic and we all loved our meals. The only criticism I have for the evening is that we were seated at the booth in the main dining area that is closest to the kitchen. There is a little half-wall between and it was used by servers for water pitchers, Parmesan, and other items they would use at multiple tables. While most of the servers (including ours) were careful about using those items, one server repeatedly banged things around and came very close to my companion's head reaching for things. I understand the convenience of having the items there, but then all of the servers need to be cognizant of the guests sitting in that booth.
Came to Pazzaluna for our anniversary again this year. The service was rushed again and just not on for a nice dinner out. Our server didn't discuss any of the features or walk us through anything on the menu. They also didn't acknowledge the special dinner, but not expected at a mid-level spot like this. I asked if they were participating in restaurant week as there was no signage or menu and then our server brought a separate menu. We didn't order off it, but was still odd to not discuss.
The food was just average with the brisket risotto overly sauced, fatty tough brisket, and risotto not done. We also had a wrong entree brought out and had that fixed. Overall the food is usually pretty good if you stick to their classics. I think the staff rotates a lot and this was a Monday night. The pace and everything just seemed a little off, but it was still a nice evening. 2 adults with dinner and drinks was about $100. I think the bar area here might be a better fit next time. The main dining room is a bit hectic and pretty loud despite the tall ceilings. Still a worthwhile place to check out if you haven't.
From the host’s welcome and remembering my name to the great recommendations for nondairy options from the server, we had excellent service and the food was divine. Will definitely come back!
Have dinner at Pazzaluna before every concert/event in DT St Paul- this time was disappointing. Had a different server every time one came to the table and the food took forever. The main course was dropped off without the needed utensils.
At this price point, I expect quality food & service.
There were a lot of larger groups who were very loud and celebrating, and my husband and I wanted a more intimate and romantic dinner. The food did not disappoint, but we wish it had a better ambiance. We paid a lot of money to have good food yes, but to feel like we were in a dorm room dining hall? It will be a while before we go back.
Great guest service from the beginning and a very engaging and attentive server named Cutis. I had the Caprese Salad and the Red Snapper special which were both delicious and wonderfully seasoned.
Out food was mediocre at best. We had the mussels - they were barely a bite full. We ordered Cesar salad with anchovies and it came without anchovies. Our main course wasn’t hot, more room temperature. Device was not impressive. Our server was uninterested. Two of the 3 people that came to our table said, ‘no problem’ after we tanked them. Please train the to say ‘you’re welcome’ or something else. We won’t be back.
Celebrated a friend's birthday and had a wonderful time. Server never rushed us as we were there a long time visiting. I would recommend this for a fun, energetic environment!
food quality is down, very noisy, menu has changed, used to be outstanding,
Food was amazing! Chicken Piccata was delicious. Loved the decor.
I took my boyfriend to Pazzaluna for his birthday, and it was wonderful. We took advantage of the birthday program which gave us a free bottle of wine and a dessert. I ordered the salmon, and it was excellent. The prices are a little high, but worth it. Valet was more than I usually have to pay in Chicago, but I believe there was an event in the area.
Pazzaluna is a great place before a play in St. Paul. Great service and very tasty food.
We love Pazzaluna and try to get downtown 2 or 3 times a year for special occasions. Their pizza is surprisingly delicious!
Wait person asked right away what our time constraints were and made sure we had a relaxed time within them.
Valet was under staffed and very slow. Food was excellent. Service was good but delivered dishes to wrong diners.
Wonderful evening with friends. Food delicious; service was awesome.
The staff was very friendly and the food was perfect!
Excellent, love it!......................celebrated my daughters birthday and the service was great as well as the food!
We have been to Pazzaluna many times over the years and always enjoy it. Our server, Lois, was excellent and had good recommendations for entrees. It was my husband’s birthday so we received a free bottle of wine and a dessert to celebrate. Service was outstanding as always. One of our favorite places to go for a dinner out.
We had always wanted to try this restaurant but since we live in the Western Suburbs, it’s quite a trek especially given closures on 94. However it was worth the trek! Four of us celebrated my daughter’s birthday, belatedly and we all agreed it was a lovely evening. The ambiance is upscale & classy. The noise level was not high, although it was early on a Sunday evening and the restaurant was not full. Service was great and the food & drink menus were varied and interesting. All of us had difficulty choosing an entree but we each chose something different and were happy with our choices - 2 of us had pasta and 2 had fish (one scallops, one walleye) with risotto. As others have said, the bread was also tasty as were the desserts. We shared 3 of them: gelato, pecan pie and budino - very delicious. It is more expensive than other places we frequent, but the portions were generous and the overall quality exceeded our expectations. We will return!
Service was excellent. The food was out of this world, literally the best Italian I’ve ever had. Try the gnocchi, it will be hard to have room for dessert though so come hungry.
Excellent food! Highly recommend
Had a great time at Pazzaluna, the octopus was very good.
This was an important business dinner with representatives of our national association. Staff was very attentive and the evening was very successful!
We visited Pazzaluna, as we have done for the past few years, to celebrate our anniversary, and we usually love it, but I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed this time around. First off, a couple of the items we ordered (bruschetta and Angel Hair/Capri) seemed dull and flavorless, and not the same recipes as the last several times we went. They almost tasted like the sauce & tomatoes came out of a can. Also, I had called them 10 days ahead of the reservation (after booking online through Open Table) to ask if we could have a booth or at least a nicely situated table location because we were celebrating our anniversary. She said she would make a note of it and that they would do their best. Well, I know they can't promise, but we were stuck at a table in the farthest corner of the back room, right next to the server station. I felt like I was eating in the kitchen, instead of celebrating a special occasion at a nice restaurant. I am still saying I would recommend to a friend, because we've loved it in the past, and we will give it another try sometime.
We had a terrible experience! It was a lovely evening so we asked the host if we could be seated outside, she told us it was first come first serve and then walked away. Umm... ok? Didn't escort us outside, just walked away. There were 4 hosts and it wasn't busy so she wasn't being run off her feet. When we seated ourselves, we waited 10 minutes before a server walked by us after dropping food. We stopped her and asked if she was our server or if she could help us. She rolled her eyes and said "whatever". 10 minutes later another server came over and asked if we'd been helped. Took another few minutes for our server to get to us and her attitude was so unbelievably bad it was almost comical! We toughed it out to see how really awful it was going to be and we weren't disappointed. At some point the manager walked through asking everyone how they were doing. We told him about our experience he never followed up, never checked back and the service actually got worse. I would advise everyone to patronize another restaurant before a show. Pazzaluna does not deserve your business!
This was my second time at Pazzaluna - this time the food was just as good but the service was not the best. We went at 9:15 after a show, and were two women so perhaps that was two strikes against us. The server wasn't at the table promptly, and she didn't describe specials or anything. We ordered, and someone else brought out our food - they did not bring the appetizer first. So we had to remind them about appetizer which then came out a bit cold. (It was likely sitting there.) We were offered tiramisu as a birthday special which was nice, but since the birthday girl doesn't drink she couldn't have it and the server got a bit snippy when we asked about something else. Finally, she forgot to bring me my to go box and I had to approach her while she was running tickets which she obviously found annoying. My point - service should be fantastic no matter what time you're there.
Service and food was FAB!!!
Love Pazzaluna, great atmosphere and outstanding food. Robin was a phenomenal server.
Their bread and virgin olive oil is awesome. Pastas, fish and wine selection too. Arancini needs a little work. If you're looking for outstanding Arancini, you need to visit Cafe Biaggio, also in St. Paul, but not downtown.
I'm sorry to say we were very disappointed in our dinner at Pazzaluna. Out of 4 meals, 1 (scallops) was excellent!
I ordered a Caesar Salad with Salmon Rare and the salmon was so well-done that I couldn't even cut it, let alone eat it. I showed the server and she blew it off and didn't offer to comp the salmon even though I hadn't touched it. The other 2 meals were cold by the time they arrived.
We spend $300 and had highly recommended it to the people we hosted. They were less than impressed.
So sorry to give a bad review.
I LOVE to support St. Paul businesses.
Ate here prior to going the theatre. We used the valet service and picked up our car after the performance which worked out great. Everyone ordered a different entree and all were happy with their food choices. I even heard a couple “Umms!
We really enjoy the person who waited on us, she had a delightful sense of humor and was very attentive.
Had not been in years, but so surprised and impressed how good everything was. We will definitely go back when in St Paul
Great service, little too noisy to visit.
My husband has back issues and I had requested a hightop table but they those were only in the bar. Instead they allow us to be seated at chair with a back on it which was adequate. Other than that our dinner and the service was excellent!
I was very disappointed. My husband and I went for dinner before a show. The service there was really friendly and prompt but was disappointed by the food. There were fruit flies buzzing around and landing on the breadbasket. We started with the mussels as an appetizer and while the broth was tasty, I got a piece of grit or sand in every mussel I attempted to eat. The most disappointing though, was the brisket and risotto I ordered for dinner. The risotto was underdone and was slightly crunchy and was not rich or creamy. The brisket had a thick dark brown meat gravy that further weighed the course down.
While I enjoyed the service, I wish the food had been at the same level. We won’t be returning.
