Pavilion - The Langham, Chicago Ratings and Reviews
We booked the prefix afternoon tea for our anniversary, and it was wonderful. The savories were well paired with tea recommended by our waiter, and the scones and desserts were unique and delicious. We made sure to take some home, as well as a relaxing camomile my wife loved. We will definitely be back soon.
65 dollars per person = four 1-inch sandwiches (only one was 2"X1"), 2 normal size scones (both very sweet) and 4 tiny pastries that were excessively sweet. One normal-size tea kettle, they offered to refill. My husband reasoned that perhaps we were not paying for the food at all, but for the piano player (Ha! get a recording!). little advise, 2 normal size ultra sweet scones are too much (and too easy to make), the pastries are overwhelmingly sweet - how about more savory mini sandwiches? how about more art into the food? total overkill. We invited our friends... so here we were, an attorney, NASA sci, an engineer and I, all dressed for high tea (hat and all) and felt cheated. Next time we'll go to Travelle instead (better value). No one at our table managed to eat the mini pastries...too much sweet.
Came here for the first time to celebrate my mother's birthday having afternoon tea on a Sunday at 2pm. We were seated by the window and there were only a few other tables occupied. A pianist performed behind me in the corner. Next to each table was a tall metal holder where the waiter placed the plates of bite sized delectables. He brought out our tea of choice first, and then the plates of savories. After we finished that, he brought out two plates of baked goods and desserts. Everything tasted great. Then the waiter brought out a small slice of cake with a lit candle on the side while the pianist played happy birthday. We couldn't finish all the food and asked to take it away. Instead of bringing cups that we could use to fill with the jam, lemon curd and butter, they provided pre-packaged ones. Personally, I prefer to take the ones on the table, as I am not a fan of waste, so I scooped what I could into the already filled cups. I felt the pianist was playing on the keys a bit too heavy, but regardless, the place is elegant and I would definitely come back on a special occasion.
Although the food and atmosphere were excellent, the price was extremely high for afternoon tea and the sandwich portion of the tea was small. One to two bites per sandwich. Scones were delicious, variety of tea good, but I can get all the same and more for half the price elsewhere. Definitely not worth $65 per person.
We went to the High Tea. I have been to many Teas in Europe and America
It was OK, but not my favorite. Our view was the front of the Trump Tower. The service was slow even though they were not busy. My biggest pet peeve is having dishes left on the table. Our server was very polite and well informed.
Having been to the Palm Court in the London Langham on numerous occassions, this was a huge disappointment. The service was very good with a knowledgeable waitress who knew her product but the food was poor.
The sandwiches were open-style which is fine in itself; for my vegetarian dining partner, creating suitable alternatives consists of more than simply omitting ingredients that don't fit the remit! Only one of the four items was a separate item; the rest consisted of a regular one with the meat or fish content taken out. The scones arrived and were rectangular in shape, but very pleasant to eat. Then the patisserie arrived and were three versions of stodgy cake plus a chocolate mousse. The pastry chef needs to see what Cherish Finden can create to see what patisserie really look like! I left most of the cakes and I have a sweet tooth.
I would go again but not for afternoon tea.
First time taking my mother out for her birthday/mothers day and glad i chose this. Everything from the view to the experience to the food and the tea was all worth it. Going earlier in the day was nice because it was still a bit quiet and once it got busier it did get louder but hinestly nothing to really complain about. Definetly will do this again
Beautiful room and very good food. Highly recommend the fobo tea. While tea should be relaxing, the service could have been more attentive. Needed to ask if we had a waiter, never received the milk for our tea which fortunately we did not need. We were asked if we'd like more tea to which we responded "yes" but never received it. Had to finally request the check.
I have a lot to say...because it was amazing!! This was my fourth tea at The Langham and it only gets better. The same pianist as always was incredible, and I noticed the addition of the violinist who brought a fun twist to the music! Each person that helped to serve us made my sister and I have the absolute best experience possible. Please tell the staff serving during our time there thank you so much from the two girls in the window by the piano - from the musicians to our fabulous wait staff, we had the most wonderful Sunday! 💕
We went for Afternoon trea and it was superb. The 4 finger sandwiches were delicious and very large for a tea service. The yummy scones were terrific. The clotted cream, vanilla curd and strawberry jam added to the flavor. The tasty treats that followed were too much. We had them boxed for home. Because it was celebration, we had proseco. The perfect beginning to the tea. The service was outstanding and the live music added to the atmosphere. I will definitely come back again.
First-rate experience for afternoon tea. We were pampered within an inch of our lives by Joseph, who gave us with complimentary prosecco to accompany our Alice in Wonderland-themed tea. The food and tea were excellent, and the atmosphere was so cozy we didn't want to leave. Joseph presented us with branded chocolate bars when we departed, cementing his status as Best Server Ever.
We went to celebrate a birthday. The afternoon tea was fabulous! The "sandwich" course was creative and tasty. Our scones were fantastic with the raspberry jam, vanilla cream, and etc. The desserts were so delicious!! We enjoyed the tea selections.
Thomas, our server, was excellent. Our table was by the window--wonderful view.
The experience was exceptional from start to finish.
High tea at the Langham is a "must do"--the entire experience was amazing, and the food exceeded our highest expectations. I don't often write reviews, but am compelled to do so for the Langham for many reasons, but specifically because they were incredibly accommodative to a guest of mine with a severe nut allergy. We alerted them in advance to this issue, and upon arrival the waiter Thomas confirmed that he had the memo, and that the chef was modifying the menu to accommodate the problem. He took particular care to describe each dish and the ingredients, and this was important to us and made us feel at ease. Believe me, this does not always happen even in the best restaurants. We had the most amazing time and enjoyed every sip and bite. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful, with a harpist playing and the table decor just perfection. Flowers, china, etc. And finally: the food. the presentation as well as the flavors were incredible. It was a memorable experience and we will definitely return.
I loved the experience! I was enjoying "me time" and the lovely music wasn't too loud for me to be able to read a couple chapters from my book. The pianist was awesome, by the way!
My husband takes me to dinner every year for Valentine's Day and our anniversary...this year, I'm asking him to take me to tea instead!
We did the afternoon tea which was Asian inspired for the Chinese New Year. Each bite was wonderful and different. My sister and niece are gluten and dairy intolerant and the Langham provided both with wonderful alternatives both artistic and flavorful, they didn't feel like they missed out on anything. Great afternoon.
Overall the experience was great. The savory options were flavorful though seemed to be sitting around a while before being served. The cucumber sandwich was stale for instance. The jams and clotted cream did not seem fresh but were hard and almost rubbery.
The positives definitely outweigh the negatives. The curry chicken sandwich was fantastic. The tuna spread was really good. The deserts and scones were great. I especially liked the gingerbread scone. The service was fantastic and the tea (Silk Road) was perfect.
My friend and I had afternoon tea here to start our long awaited reunion with some luxury, and it was absolutely the right choice. The tea, food, and service were all excellent. I would definitely come back for another special occasion or even just to treat myself.
