Paul's Homewood Cafe Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at a lovely four top by a window and found it very comfortable and quiet after a long day of driving.
Delicious warm rolls were brought to the table. I had the whole bronzino that I chose to fillet myself. It was absolutely delicious. My husband had a mezze dinner consisting of lemon soup, chicken kebab and pastichio felt the meat in pastichio was a little dry. The weakest link of the dinner was the Greek salad. The feta cheese and dressing were delicious, but the mixed lettuce was very wilted and seemed similar if not the same that comes out of the premade cellophane bags. Because of the poor quality of the lettuce, we were only able to pick at the salad. To go back to the beginning of the review, the overall food was good, and we would go back.
Went for Sunday Brunch. Everything was okay except the waffle & chicken entre. It was served much later than the other 5 meals and when it finally came the chicken was burnt, dried out, and tasted awful. On the positive side, the other meals were very good and the menu was expansive for a brunch.
Paul's is an underestimated find! The food is consistent and the staff is always to do whatever is requested for their guests. I would like to see the interior to be a little more 'inviting'. It is clean and functional as always but just tables and chairs....
Average meal. Appetizers (scallops and oysters rockefeller) and salads were good. Main course was not as nearly as good. I ordered the whole sea bass and it was well seasoned but small, a bit oily, and although deboned by the kitchen had lots of bones. Wife had crab cakes and shrimp. The crab cake was a mushy with too much mayo and not a lot of chunks of lump meat. The sides..rice and asparagus and green beans were just ok and the waiter failed to tell us there were other options for sides. They were out of most of the deserts so had to order my 3rd choice..homemade lemon meringue pie which was very good.
Always a pleasure coming here. Greek inspired menu but also has fresh seafood and many other items. Service is excellent. Tapas, appetizers and fresh salads all good. I ordered the baby lamb chops and one was a little underdone. No problem! They scrambled to make it right and were back lickety-split and apologized. We have also enjoyed their Sunday Brunch and would highly recommend this as well. Pauls is definitely a neighborhood gem. We will keep coming back.
I loved Paul's Homewood café! Authentic Greek food that is very comforting. Nice artwork on the walls. Our server, who I believe is named Rick, was terrific, very attentive, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. We were a group of five and four of us got the Meze dinner option, which allows you to choose three or four options, like a combo plate. The spanakopita was truly delicious, with just enough of the peppery flavor to make it much better than average. The pastichio that I had, was perhaps the best I have ever had, including those that I have had on my visits to Athens. I also chose the lamb kebabs, which is served with a light fluffy rice. My folks adored the Moussaka. We shared the fried calamari as an appetizer, and I have never seen people vying to get food from a shared dish so aggressively... truly delish, it had a lovely sweetness to it – that does not mean sugary. We ate outside, on a lovely evening, and we had the patio to ourselves. The fifth diner in our group had a seafood meal, which he said was outstanding. As to the quantity of food, I brought home almost half of my dinner, which makes this plays a terrific value. It could have used a little more privacy from the lattice fence; however, it was still delightful. Unfortunately, I do not live in Annapolis, Maryland. We were in town for a wedding, and when I return to Annapolis, I will immediately go back to Paul's... this place is a gem!
We dine at Paul's often. The food is always wonderful, whether we choose small plates,
entrees from the regular menu, or specials. Best calamari anywhere. Eggplant bruschetta
is wonderful. Chris is our favorite server, but everyone has always been very attentive without
being overbearing. We love that they stock Great Frogs wine from the local Annapolis winery.
Great food. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. What's not to like? The food is fresh and delicious. The owners aren't the first generation from this family to operate this restaurant, but over the years it has just gotten better and better! One or both of the owners are usually there, and the well-trained staff is eager to please. If you've tried Paul's Homewood Cafe, you're either a local or a regular (or both). If you haven't tried it, so yourself a favor....
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Paul's Homewood Cafe and we will definitely visit again. This was our first time there and did not like our table location but in fairness to Paul's staff we did not ask to be moved and we should have. The table was isolated (which some folks may have enjoyed) but we prefer to be closer to the action. Also, the table was on the path to the bathrooms. The food was excellent, interesting and attractively served. Our server was top notch.
We all loved our meals. They were cooked to order and the presentation was very nice. The waiter was attentive but not obtrusive and we had an enjoyable evening. I had the Brazilian sea bass (whole) and it was most and flakey with my fork. Nicely spiced. My wife and her girlfriends had the rockfish which was grilled nicely, moist and well spiced but not as quite as tastey as we've had it in another restaurant. Still good; my wife felt it was better than my bass. My friend had lamb chops which looked beautiful upon arrival in a red wine reduction sauce. He was very pleased with his meal.
We shared a couple pieces of baklava and felt that it was a bit dry. It could have used some more honey.
The wine was nice and the ambiance perfect. We will return.
Lovely people, good food nicely prepared, nice sized portions, swell cocktails and parking. Even though it's walking distance for me, my friends were going to performance later and appreciated the parking. And the staff understands the schedule for getting to the performance venue. Paul's is a gem, and supports the local art scene as well..
Paul's is a cosy neighborhood restaurant that is an excellent value. The Cafe feels intimate despite the fact that it is a fair sized restaurant, due to the floor plan which divides the space into several separate dining areas. The food is Mediterranean/seafood and everything we had was tasty. Don't let the inexpensive prices on the small plate combos fool you, the portions are generous. Good wine and drinks list for a casual restaurant, and very good service. The Cafe is conveniently located walking distance from the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.
