Patrona Restaurant and Lounge is located in the heart of beautiful Ukiah, Mendocino County, California. We are a family-run business and view the restaurant as an extension of our kitchen and living room. Our building served as the town grocery store for over one hundred years. Now lovingly restored, it is softly lit with warm brick walls, filled with hand crafted tables from local artisans and run by a staff that cares.
Bridget and Craig, two winery chefs, opened Patrona in 2003. The simple goal was to enjoy the great area we live in and share this with our family and friends. Our mission statement is simply “Happy People”. We need to be happy about what we do and how we do it. Our guests need to be happy and feel good as well as our neighbors and future generations. This means a thoughtful and sustainable business. Our menu changes are based on today’s catch from the gardens, ocean and local purveyors.

Too bad we picked Patrona on our date night when no one cared. The food was cold. Both mine and my dates’. $80.00 worth of cold dinner. They warmed it back up but the damage was done. And then the real wait began. Where is the check? I was tempted to leave but I went looking for him anyway. Patrona must think there are no options for dining in this town.
We stayed in Ukiah when visiting wineries in the Alexander Valley. The atmosphere at Patrona was upscale but not stuffy. The atmosphere was very pleasant overall...the lighting, low noise level and space between the tables all contributed to a comfortable dining experience.
I appreciated that our server brought two generous wine samples to help me make my selection.
We both loved the croquettes! The night we were there they were pepper jack with roasted pepper aioli. Delicious!!
The seafood pasta was rich and delicious. My partner’s steak and veggetable selection was clean and prepared as ordered.
We highly recommend Patrona.
Exceeded our expectations. Local catch red pepper cod, seared tuna, and wonderful gorgonzola/port soaked fig flatbread appetizer were all excellent and reasonable. Nice drink selection and winelist. Service was outstanding. Excellent Ukiah restaurant - do not miss this one!
Service was expedient and friendly. Had a group of 12 with a number of separate checks which our server handled graciously. Everyone's food was tasty enough though some salmon orders were sent back for being under cooked. I liked the portion size of the entrees - perfect amount! Had local red Chiles cod, jasmine rice with stir fry veggies-delish!
For whatever reason, whenever I eat at Patrona, we order our drinks, then food, and the drinks always take forever and come out after the food. I wish they could get their flow together and get the drinks to us first. Food should be more outstanding for the price.
At first it was frustrating to attempt to make a reservation here. Open Table kept responding to our sign up by saying the reservation didn't go through, and to try again in a few minutes. So I called Patrona to make a reservation and they told me I had already made two of them!
Still, our meal was fabulous! I have to be gluten-free, due to a medical issue. They must cook gluten-free meals correctly, because I had no response to cross contamination from my meal.
The lunch menu was varied, creative and enticing with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. I had the trout with tarragon mustard sauce and vegetables. Delicious! Most tables were full, but the noise level was low enough to permit easy conversation. I look forward to returning to Patrona to try other menu items.
The food was excellent, especially the panko -encrusted chili cod. However, the salmon portion was a little small. I ordered off the drink menu and asked for a dark and stormy. It made me wish I had gotten the lavender whisky sour. Everyone else was quite happy with their drinks and dessert.
First of all, this is an attractively designed modern, warm restaurant. While the staff is pleasant and polite they seem disorganized and unpolished. It seems like they are understaffed and overwhelmed. One server in the entire restaurant on a Saturday night! Our server forgot our cocktail and had to be prompted for a dessert order which she returned 15 minutes later to take. She also didn't check back to ask us if we liked our meal until we were almost finished. And then there was the food...None of our dishes had any perceptible seasoning. The ravioli with a horseradish sauce had the slightest hint of flavor and no apparent salmon inside. A very plain crime sauce. Bland, bland, bland. Swordfish was a tiny portion overcooked with two teaspoons of bland bearnaise. The truffle fries were soggy with no apparent truffle flavor. Our calamari appetizer was well-cooked with an overly sweet orange sauce. Some lemon, garlic and salt would have been nice. We're still waiting for our dessert...which when it finally arrived was not what was mentioned on the menu...neither the server nor the kitchen were aware of this when I mentioned it to her...
Overall they usually have great food. The ribs were great but the baked beans did not have much flavor and were dry. My husband sent his food back since it wasn't very hot, but they were responsive. Very good drinks and desserts. Pace is leisurely so don't go if you are pressed for time.
Have been to Patrona several times and have yet to be disappointed. The bar on a Friday after work is lively and the clientele is varied between attorneys and dreadlocked, patchouli smelling characters. The food is good and they present a wide variety for discerning tastes. Prices are a bit high, not quite enough to keep some of the more fragrant members of the community away, but on par for the higher end for Ukiah. Our last visit was for brunch on mother's day. The staff was showing the strain of not quite enough of them there as well as a smallish kitchen for the table count. Ordering and delivering of food and drinks was a bit slow, but understandable given the number of patrons and turnover of tables. I ordered the crab eggs benedict, well cooked and flavored. this might sound odd, but I think that it would have benefitted with a little less crab. The briny sea flavor pushed itself past the hollandaise and eggs. My wife had the rib-eye and poached eggs. Both were cooked and seasoned correctly. The ambient noise was atypically higher than usual due to the mothers day patrons being abundant. Normally muted conversation is standard. I ordered a bloody Mary at the beginning of the meal and another one at the end of the meal and it was obvious that two different bartenders made the drinks as the first one was bright, light and very tasty while the second one was nearly undrinkable with way too much Worcestershire sauce. Overall a nice meal in a nice atmosphere. Would, and have, recommended to friends and people passing through the area.
Server was nice, but very slow. Ordered calamari for appetizer, which is normally very good. It was undercooked, no batter or the chili glaze that comes on it. Entrees were ok. Hardly saw our server and the bar was extremely slow. I've had much better quality service and food during lunch versus dinner. We were there for our anniversary and it was a bit disappointing unfortunately.
The food at Patrona is always quite well prepared, the use fresh, locally sourced ingredients and there are frequently unique interesting specials. This time the service I felt was sub-par. Even though there were several servers circulating around the dining room, we spent a lot more time than I was comfortable with waiting for our order to be taken, food to come out, and check to be picked up. Even though they were busy, I didn't feel they were understaffed - just somewhat inattentive. The servers were friendly, efficient etc. service was just noticeable slow.
Our group of four from Boston & Seattle loved the food and wine at this lovely restaurant. Each of us ordered something different (fish, steak, pasta) and were richly rewarded. The wine list was superb and our waitress steered us to spectacular choices. We'll be back!
Patrona is my favorite restaurant! I love the fresh, locally sourced food, and the creative, and sometimes surprising ways the ingredients are paired. I love the ambiance, and the service. I also like the fact that their "Community Night" meals are affordable for families, with the same quality you expect in their regular menu. We typically order from the menu even on the Community Nights, but I love seeing families with their little ones enjoying fine dining! On this last visit I had the duck breast, which was exquisite, and my husband had the rib eye. We had the flatbread, and the oysters on half shell for starters. Everything was perfect. This is Ukiah's premiere fine dining restaurant, and the prices typically reflect that, but it's always well worth the cost!
The restaurant didn't appear to be super busy for a Friday night but the service staff was more concerned with walking a customer's baby around the restaurant rather than attending to the requests of the customers. My party went without a knife, drink refills, and other requests because the staff couldn't be bothered to remember to bring what we'd asked for and I observed this happening around the restaurant. Aside from that, the food was alright. The calamari was awesome, the croquettes were pricy for the serving size, the entrees we ordered were mostly bland and unexciting and way too expensive for what we received. My final critique is more to do with the placement of some of the tables. The particular table they had reserved for us was precariously placed on the edge of a downhill slope and my party was constantly adjusting the table so as to avoid the table being unbalanced. All that being said, I'm glad we made the reservation and requested what we did, and the restaurant was very accommodating for the change in time of the reservation as we were coming from 100+ miles away and traffic became an issue getting there from the Bay Area.
Your menu barely seems to change. I go with a friend every few months and not much is new. Beet salad should be dominated by beets not greens. Desert menu stays the same. I like your cocktails. That seems to always have something new to offer. Nice environment. Service is good. The quality of the food is good. Just needs new dishes. More creativity. Im kind of bored with the same old stuff. 2and1/2 stars overall.
