Pastiche Modern Eatery Ratings and Reviews
We have been coming to Pastiche for the last three Thanksgiving Holiday.
The food and ambiance was very good as it has been for the last three years.
However, I had to rate the service very poor.
Our waiter was very polite but the service he provided was not.
To start, all the tables around us got bread, we did not.
Then I had to ask two people for lemon for my water, my waiter included, but never received any.
Then I asked for some more Cranberry sauce for my Thanksgiving Turkey meal and never received it.
When we ordered desert, my friend ordered a Capacino, and I, a regular coffee.
Our waiter returned a few minutes later and said the espresso machine was being temperamental therefore there would be no Capacino tonight. This was right after the table next to us received two espressos. Also, I never got my coffee.
As has been tradition for the last three years of coming to Pastiche for Thanksgiving dinner, anyone who ordered the Turkey Meal received a box of leftovers to go with the Thanksgiving tradition. Alas, I never received my leftovers on the way out.
I am disappointed in the lack of finesse this evening.
Thanksgiving Dinner: we were very happy with Thanksgiving Dinner at Pastiche! The restaurant was full, noise level was still not too bad and the service was efficient and calm. The menu was excellent, with three of us having the traditional turkey dinner and two having mac and cheese (without bacon) and rack of lamb. The rack of lamb was superb and we were told it is on the regular menu so we will be back to try it again. I would definitely like to have the traditional thanksgiving dinner again too. The Mac'n Cheese member of the party finished it all and said it was tasty. The menu was nice, limited due to the holiday, but still varied and everything we tried was very good. The desert menu included traditional Thanksgiving items and an absolutely wonderful flourless chocolate tort (high marks from our chocoholic)! I would go again on a Holiday and certainly any other time as well. Highly recommend this restaurant for comfort, old-world style, the bar and the food!
Always a comfortable environment to share a conversation without yelling, a simple, but delicious menu to choose from, lovely owners that are on site and greet everyone with a smile and passion for quality service, and reasonable priced! Highly recommended.
We found Pastiche Modern Eatery through Open Table and have been back many times. We have never been disappointed, The service is great as is the food. Many times we have "lingered" with friends to visit and finish conversations. I highly recommend Pastiche!
Pastiche has been a Tucson mainstay for years, and it remains a good dining choice before or after sporting events at our nearby university. The menu has old standards and nightly specials, and the "bistro" portion is a great option for lighter appetites.
The service was cheerful but surprisingly slow. I would not hold this against a locale that is generally spot on though.
This is the absolute BEST non-Mexican restaurant we’ve been to in the Tucson area. Happy hour selections were great and the regular menu has fantastic selections, which vary, from what the owners told us. Appetizers were yummy and my Mahi-mahi dish was amazing. Judie and Cosmos are warm and welcoming. They visit your table and are so nice. Staff was attentive. Lovely atmosphere, as well. We highly recommend Pastiche.
It was very nice, good food, good service, but we didn't like the table location, which was in a corner next to the kitchen where the waiting staff hung out and chatted when they were not working. Next time we will make certain we don't sit in that location.
The calamari appetizer was the best we've ever had!!---and a very generous portion. We all four had different entrees---the mahi-mahi, shrimp pasta, and chicken scallopini were excellent. The cioppino could use some more spices and a richer broth and less of it. Desserts were to die for!! The owner was very attentive and really wants everyone to have a first-class dining experience which we did!
Met the new owner. So pleased that he is keeping this well regarded local gem in service. Jim, our server for the night, did not give us any grief for having to run four different tabs (for six diners). He also managed to have all the orders correct and delivered at the same time - something we noticed often go attainable in many area restaurants. Support staff were also very friendly and kept our water glasses and bread plates refilled.
This visit is the first we made after the recent change in ownership. Service was a little awkward. We made reservations , and I gave my name as we entered. After we were seated, a young lady asked us if we had reservations, saying to the effect that since I made our reservation online (Open Table) they needed to "write it down." Overall service was rather slow, considering that perhaps only a quarter of the tables were occupied. Perhaps they will smooth things out after a while.
Regarding the food: Three of my companions thought their food were good --- steak salad, chicken Caesar, and beef slider. I had two soft tacos consisting of two cone-shaped tortillas filled with lots of coarsely-sliced cabbage, and small flakes of mahi mahi I had to search for, and some kind of sauce, accompanied by a small side of garden salad with Caesar dressing --- for $14! Rather pricey for what food was served. We all agreed that on the priciness of the menu items.
But to be fair, I will go back and try other menu items before making a final judgment. I had meals at Pastische before the change of ownership when I always was happy with the food, service, and value. I will also recommend Pastische to friends so they can make their own judgment. If Pastische can keep up with the previous standards, it can enjoy its previous excellent reputation.
We decided to try this restaurant after hearing that it was sold and purchased by someone in our neighborhood. The menu has definitely changed and has quite a variety. Each one in our party tried something different and we were all very pleased. Did not try the desserts since we had invited our friends to come to our house after dinner for dessert. Next time we will try their desserts too! Looking forward to returning.
Excellent customer service. The new owner even stopped by our table to see if everything was ok. We dined there recently on a rainy monsoon evening, and there was a leak adjacent to our table. This was unfortunate, but it happens. I found it strange that no one had asked if we wanted a different table. Some water droplets had splashed onto the vinyl in our booth, but we did not make a fuss.
One thing that was unusual: Bread (no charge) is no longer brought to the table unless the patron asks for it. Perhaps this should be advertised somewhere. We asked only because our entrees had arrived and no bread had been offered. (oversight? Not) Once we asked, they brought us a plate with exactly 3 slices of bread.
The food quality was good, and the price was reasonable. A quick note: It may be helpful for people who are interested in sustainably caught seafood to do the research ahead of time. The server was unaware of the method utilized to capture the fish, however they made a sincere effort to find out for me. I am finding that most servers don't have this information (sigh).
I will continue to dine at Pastiche, although I will probably recommend improvements to the management.
