Pasta Moon Ratings and Reviews
As always the food was excellent and served in a warm, inviting environment. That said, our waiter was clearly rushed, and a couple of requests needed repeating when the requested items failed to materialize. My wife's branzino was seriously undercooked and the center still very cold, but once re-grilled it was very good.
This is a moderately expensive restaurant which has always been one of our favorites, but on this occasion I must say it underperformed. Hopefully not a trend.
My wife and I were celebrating our 1st anniversary here, which is where we held our wedding reception. Pablo and the rest of the staff were on top of things, Timing was perfect and not hovering. They had our prosecco and the bouquet I had ordered from Alena Jean ready at the table.
The Menu is fantastic, wine list is great.
I highly recommend Pasta Moon for any occasion.
We have been here many times and the food is always fresh and wonderful. But why do they ask if the occasion is special and when you say yes it is they do not acknowledge it? I stated it was my husband's birthday and they didn't even say happy birthday let alone offer anything. That was disappointing.
Always a pleasure to dine there! We all enjoyed our appetizers and entrees. We had to share a lovely dessert because we were all more than content with our meals. They have generous serving sizes and it tastes so delicious, that you just can't help yourself!
From the moment we wslked in to the time we left, girst class service.
Warm greating from our host and she repeated my wife's food allergies so that she could pass them along to our server, Marcos. Marcos grested us and asked if we were familiar with the restaurant, we weren't, so he told us about it and recommended the house made pasta dishes or specials.
Memorable evening and whenever we return to Half Moon Bay we will again dine at Pasta Moon.
I rarely post reviews. We've been going Pasta Moon for I think 25 years, maybe more. We've always considered it one of the SBs nicest restaurants; food, wine. Still have some amazing Italian wine - even by the glass. In the past really well executed, quality cooking. No more. Can't say how disappointed we are in the owner's new format. Clearly a business decision to go for quantity rather than quality. Sad, but time to move on.
Once again the team at Pasta Moon outdid themselves. In today's difficult restaurant environment, especially in smaller coastal towns, it is a treat to find an establishment that put's so much energy into the experience. Great food, wine and excellent service. By far my favorite place in Half Moon Bay.
Hostesses were very nice. Pasta and pork chop were delicious. Cheesecake was good but chocolate sauce on top was overkill. Maybe a seasonal fresh fruit compote would balance out the richness of the cheesecake more appropriately. Server was very nice. Love that there's a full bar and an amazing wine list. Definitely coming back.
I live in San Francisco and dine at Pasta Moon 2-3 times a year. I've always sat up front and the ambiance is very pleasant. Nice lighting, comfortable seating. It always felt welcoming. This time we were brought to a back room we didn't know existed. It seemed like an enclosed porch, which was bright at 6:45 PM in August and a bit drafty. My wife joked we were seated at the kids table. It was definitely a different dining experience and one we weren't expecting. The food and service were good but we wouldn't have made the drive from SF had we known we would be seated in this odd back room.
We visted for a before-theater lunch. Companion had Caesar salad and I noticed that some of the Romaine lettuce stems in her salad were brown. She said the dressing was not well balanced (too much oil; not enough lemon/Parmesan) and anchovies were not salty enough. Add some botega, maybe? I had the fava and pea salad with burrata special which was nicely dressed if a little crunchy. I also had the Caprese salad on toast - toast was burned, tomato not salted. Mozzarella was delicious but could not save the dish which was badly proportioned with two huge (burned) bread portions. I can - and have - done better myself with this dish and was disappointed as the charge for it was quite high for an appetizer. Service was good if a little slow initially.
I hadn't been there for years. The food was good, but physically it sure has changed. The seating used to be upscale but now it looks like a school cafeteria. The people eating there on a Saturday night were poorly dressed with some of the men wearing baseball hats! Looked more like a lunch crowd. I would recommend this place for lunch but certainly not for dinner.
The restaurant has expanded and it had a good crowd, so I assume it is doing well. That is the most important thing for ownership. Give the folks whatever is required to fill the seats and bring in the money. Hate to see that Pasta Moon has become another Sam's.
Great place in downtown Half Moon Bay!!
Try The Lasagna!!! A half portion is plenty!!
Excellent wine selection!! Surprised by the depth & breath of fine wines. Squash ravioli was also highly recommended.
Great date Place or a night out w good friends. Surprised by the size of the restaurant!! It just keeps going with a number of different rooms - from large & open to small & cozy to a private space.
Pasta Moon has the best food in the Half Moon Bay area, even better than the Ritz Carlton. Their home made pastas are out of this world, and they have an incredible nectarine and goat cheese salad with toasted almonds. Ending with Affogato for dessert, this was our best meal of the summer so far.
