Pasta Moon Ratings and Reviews
3 hosts at the door all trying to help you but it’s chaos. One of them is a rude, grumpy man double checking everything two young women is doing and talking over.
Service is by an overly energetic waiter. Asks questions, but doesn’t listen to answers. You end up with drinks you did not order and get charged for them. Your order of a salad and two pastas get verified three times, well because he wasn’t listening. Wonder what he was scribbling to that pad.
Food? Mediocre ravioli soaking in melted butter. Huge lasagna compensating for dull taste.
Loud. Tables are so close to each other you can hear conversation from both tables. Good luck having a relaxed chat with your company.
The service was excellent. Greeter in the front was cordial and the busboy and waiter were extremely attentive, prompt and friendly. Food was, as we've come to expect here, well prepared and delicious. Good choice of wines and warm, hospitable ambiance. We'll be back again when visiting the Peninsula and the coast. In summary, very well worth it.
Unfortunately, Pasta Moon didn’t live up to its reputation. Good things were sausage pizza, and Italian bread soup. Both were delish! Lasagna way too salty and cheesy. Clam appetizer had no flavor. Service was nonexistent, and when we arrived we mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. No dessert arrived after dinner. Not worth the money spent. Won’t be coming back.
We went with another couple and had a a delicious meal. The size of the salmon stuffed with crab and the cioippino were a little smaller than expected, but all the food we ordered was delicious: Fritto Misto (we 4 shared it); Pappardelle Pancetta; plus the two specials. The desserts were divine: butterscotch pudding and meyer lemon parfait. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. All round a lovely time. The restaurant is broken up into several different rooms -- making a large restaurant seem smaller and friendlier than it would be otherwise.
We had a lovely birthday dinner. There were 4 in our party. The reservation was seamless and the staff thoughtfully reserved a table in the quieter part of the restaurant The margarita I ordered was okay but nothing special. The pasta however was outstanding. I tasted 3 of the pasta dishes ordered. Both the parppardelle & tagliatelle were absolutely delicious. I also had the trout salad as my entree. The fish was tasty with free salad greens & a light dressing that did not overwhelm the fish. Our waiter was very attentive but not intrusive. We will definitely return to Pasta Moon
Pasta Moon in HMB: So great pasta and great fish and seafood. They always provide fresh home baked breads, olive oil and balsamic. We love share family style. It's basically our only restaurant in HMB. Excellent value for quality dining. Warm, low-key ambiance.
Chill at PM and don't fight traffic driving back the SV.
Food was great...lasagna and a ribeye. Our waitress was busy and our drink order wasn’t right but we survived. Small two top beside another 2 top and a 6 top offered little privacy in the way of conversation but again...we came through. All in all it was great food, good atmosphere, and reasonably priced. Would go back again
We ate at Pasta Moon approximately 5 years ago and had one of our best-ever eating experiences. The mussels and lasagna were particularly amazing. We return in 2018 hoping for the same experience. They had renovated the interior, but much of the feel remained the same. The lasagna was still amazing, but I have to say that there was a slight drop in some of the other dishes. Particularly, the eggplant parmesan was excessively garlicy. All in all, still a wonderful place to eat in Half Moon Bay. I just hope they keep everything up to their prior standards.
Pasta Moon is one of our all time favorite restaurants. I am Gluten Free: they accommodate GF and other food allergies. Their GF pasta is the best anywhere: it is made fresh and the fusilli is fantastic. Salads are unique and use local ingredients.
The rest of our family doesn't have food allergies and their favorite restaurant is Pasta Moon.
One son is Paleo and loves the skirt steak. Pasta Moon's seafood (we've had mussels, salmon, trout ) is excellent. Complimentary house baked wheat and GF bread. Nice wines and drinks. Plus DESSERT. Dark chocolate sorbetto, tiramisu, and many others.
For a family dinner, quiet date, special occasion, it is top on our list! And, to little children, they are also most welcoming.
We had a very enjoyable lunch on MLK day - started with the calamari, onion, olive mix, which was done in a light tempura-like batter. Our mains were the scallop salad - the scallops were superb and a linguine/dungenous crab special - also great. Service was attentive, but not rushed. The space is open and pleasant. We sat in the front toward Main St, which was fine but a little noisy. We will definitely go back in the future.
We had a very nice dinner. The salad was fresh and delicious. Knowing that we were going to share the salad they split it for us, which is always very nice. The pizza was very good with a delicate and well baked thin crust. My favorite was the butterscotch pudding. We would definitely go back.
Friendly, efficient personnel and flavorful, fresh food make this destination special. The seasonal entrees are especially delicious offerings. You will have to leave your credit card on file to hold a reservation. This is annoying as emergencies do happen...
Pasta Moon is our “go to” restaurant for special occasions, dining with friends and visitors from out of town and has been for more than 20 years. It never fails to be outstanding in every category that could be used to evaluate a fine dining establishment while getting better over time. Don’t miss visiting Pasta Moon.
Excellent French 75. Linguine with ahi tuna was waaay too salty. My daughter loved her pasta with crab and lobster sauce. Waiter was super nice and friendly. Fried broccoli was extremely oily, and calamari was mostly fennel and other things. Had to poke around for the few pieces of calamari. This was my second visit here. My first experience was much better. But I'll be dreaming about that French 75... It was perfection!
Service was very good. Attentive without being overbearing. The furnishing are hard and the noise level can get up there. The food was interesting and somewhat different, but pricey. I had the trout salad and the ahi with pasta. The salad just seemed to be missing something and the pasta was good, but seemed like it was over spiced. Not spicy, but just too much going on. My wife had the pork chop. Looked great and a big plate of food. She is not into mashed potatoes, so she had scalloped. Potatoes and greens were excellent, but again it seemed like they tried to do too much with the pork chop. It had a flavor that my wife did not care for and was dense, somewhat dried-out and chewy. The deserts were good with big portions. My wife had the lemon parfait, and liked the flavor, but not the texture.
We drive an hour to have a meal at Pasta Moon. They do everything with class, yet it's not a stiff environment; they do nice things with the aesthetics to make it a little fun too! My pappardelle with tomato, mascarpone, pancetta was outstanding. The eggplant parmesan was terrific too and the portion was plenty to take home the other half for lunch tomorrow! Our seasonal salad featured cara cara oranges and very fresh greens with a crisp lemony dressing. I can't remember the name of it but they had a rosy lambrusco that was perfect with lunch, if you like something bubbly.
Understand why Pasta Moon has #1 rating in Half Moon Bay. Food was fabulous. Nobody what else you choose to eat, you have to try the crispy brussel sprouts. Large enough app for 4 people. All pasta is made from scratch and is fabulous. My wife had butternut squash ravioli and I had tagliatelle with bolognese sauce. Don't miss this place if your in the area.
I took my wife to Pasta Moon for her birthday and we had a wonderful experience. The main goal with my restaurant selection was amazing and flavorful food, and this choice was spot on. We ordered the pork chop stuffed with caramelized onion, pears, and pancetta, and it came with mashed Potatoes with mascarpone and spinach. Yum! My wife said that the chop was the best she'd ever tasted. It was tender, moist, super flavorful. The potatoes were creamy and so tasty, the spinach was garlicky awesome. We couldn't get enough. We also shared one of their specials - a linguini dish with lump crab meat and a lemon cream sauce. I believe it had saffron in it, but it wasn't very apparent. I thought the sauce would be heavier (which I don't mind usually), but it was a very light and refreshing dish. A very good accompaniment to the pork chop meal.
I would highly recommend this charming restaurant in Half Moon Bay. Food, service, and decor -- left me wanting more! :-)
Over the years we have eaten here numerous times though the last time was about 3-4 years ago. The space has been redecorated to be more intimate and partitions have been installed to break up the large feel of the room and give more privacy to diners. The food was outstanding as usual, though the persimmon salad that we were served while delicious, the persimmons were clearly overripe and on the mushy side. The cioppino(?) was piping hot and chock full of yummy fresh seafood. Definitely a keeper. Hubby had the pasta with crab in a lemon cream sauce. That too was delish. Portions are generous and service was attentive. The only slightly disturbing thing was that they now have the entire space and it made me feel like they were waiting for the tour buses to pull up to fill all of the empty tables in the middle, though in January there's probably no cause for concern.
After the holidays, four of us decided to head to the Coast. It wasn’t too far from Redwood City, so we roughed it in the rain and headed to Pasta Moon. We were SO pleased we did. Our server was so gracious, knowledgeable and courteous. The food was exceptional, far better than I had enjoyed in years past. We all love this little gem on the Coast, and left saying “Wow that was amazing. We are coming back!”
