Pasta Moon Ratings and Reviews
We had a very enjoyable lunch on MLK day - started with the calamari, onion, olive mix, which was done in a light tempura-like batter. Our mains were the scallop salad - the scallops were superb and a linguine/dungenous crab special - also great. Service was attentive, but not rushed. The space is open and pleasant. We sat in the front toward Main St, which was fine but a little noisy. We will definitely go back in the future.
We had a very nice dinner. The salad was fresh and delicious. Knowing that we were going to share the salad they split it for us, which is always very nice. The pizza was very good with a delicate and well baked thin crust. My favorite was the butterscotch pudding. We would definitely go back.
Friendly, efficient personnel and flavorful, fresh food make this destination special. The seasonal entrees are especially delicious offerings. You will have to leave your credit card on file to hold a reservation. This is annoying as emergencies do happen...
Pasta Moon is our “go to” restaurant for special occasions, dining with friends and visitors from out of town and has been for more than 20 years. It never fails to be outstanding in every category that could be used to evaluate a fine dining establishment while getting better over time. Don’t miss visiting Pasta Moon.
Excellent French 75. Linguine with ahi tuna was waaay too salty. My daughter loved her pasta with crab and lobster sauce. Waiter was super nice and friendly. Fried broccoli was extremely oily, and calamari was mostly fennel and other things. Had to poke around for the few pieces of calamari. This was my second visit here. My first experience was much better. But I'll be dreaming about that French 75... It was perfection!
Service was very good. Attentive without being overbearing. The furnishing are hard and the noise level can get up there. The food was interesting and somewhat different, but pricey. I had the trout salad and the ahi with pasta. The salad just seemed to be missing something and the pasta was good, but seemed like it was over spiced. Not spicy, but just too much going on. My wife had the pork chop. Looked great and a big plate of food. She is not into mashed potatoes, so she had scalloped. Potatoes and greens were excellent, but again it seemed like they tried to do too much with the pork chop. It had a flavor that my wife did not care for and was dense, somewhat dried-out and chewy. The deserts were good with big portions. My wife had the lemon parfait, and liked the flavor, but not the texture.
We drive an hour to have a meal at Pasta Moon. They do everything with class, yet it's not a stiff environment; they do nice things with the aesthetics to make it a little fun too! My pappardelle with tomato, mascarpone, pancetta was outstanding. The eggplant parmesan was terrific too and the portion was plenty to take home the other half for lunch tomorrow! Our seasonal salad featured cara cara oranges and very fresh greens with a crisp lemony dressing. I can't remember the name of it but they had a rosy lambrusco that was perfect with lunch, if you like something bubbly.
Understand why Pasta Moon has #1 rating in Half Moon Bay. Food was fabulous. Nobody what else you choose to eat, you have to try the crispy brussel sprouts. Large enough app for 4 people. All pasta is made from scratch and is fabulous. My wife had butternut squash ravioli and I had tagliatelle with bolognese sauce. Don't miss this place if your in the area.
I took my wife to Pasta Moon for her birthday and we had a wonderful experience. The main goal with my restaurant selection was amazing and flavorful food, and this choice was spot on. We ordered the pork chop stuffed with caramelized onion, pears, and pancetta, and it came with mashed Potatoes with mascarpone and spinach. Yum! My wife said that the chop was the best she'd ever tasted. It was tender, moist, super flavorful. The potatoes were creamy and so tasty, the spinach was garlicky awesome. We couldn't get enough. We also shared one of their specials - a linguini dish with lump crab meat and a lemon cream sauce. I believe it had saffron in it, but it wasn't very apparent. I thought the sauce would be heavier (which I don't mind usually), but it was a very light and refreshing dish. A very good accompaniment to the pork chop meal.
I would highly recommend this charming restaurant in Half Moon Bay. Food, service, and decor -- left me wanting more! :-)
Over the years we have eaten here numerous times though the last time was about 3-4 years ago. The space has been redecorated to be more intimate and partitions have been installed to break up the large feel of the room and give more privacy to diners. The food was outstanding as usual, though the persimmon salad that we were served while delicious, the persimmons were clearly overripe and on the mushy side. The cioppino(?) was piping hot and chock full of yummy fresh seafood. Definitely a keeper. Hubby had the pasta with crab in a lemon cream sauce. That too was delish. Portions are generous and service was attentive. The only slightly disturbing thing was that they now have the entire space and it made me feel like they were waiting for the tour buses to pull up to fill all of the empty tables in the middle, though in January there's probably no cause for concern.
After the holidays, four of us decided to head to the Coast. It wasn’t too far from Redwood City, so we roughed it in the rain and headed to Pasta Moon. We were SO pleased we did. Our server was so gracious, knowledgeable and courteous. The food was exceptional, far better than I had enjoyed in years past. We all love this little gem on the Coast, and left saying “Wow that was amazing. We are coming back!”
Hands down a 5 star rating-Service and Food
I recommended this restaurant because my many past meals there have been exemplary and the service excellent. On this visit however the service was poor--waiter forgot to deliver our drinks and appetizer until after the salad course and only because we flagged her down. The appetizer of fritto misto was cool not hot and had mostly onions and leeks, with two pieces of shrimp and two of calamari. Our main dishes were lackluster too except for the lasagna which was as usual excellent.
I felt like I was not in the same restaurant I have enjoyed so much in the past. I hope this is a temporary lapse but since I have moved 500 miles away, I will not be returning to check.
We went on New Year's Eve to celebrate and to have PASTA. They did not tell us either on Open Table or when they confirmed that it was a price fixed menu for the evening. Also one would think with a name like PASTA Moon they would at least serve PASTA but guess what even on New Year's Eve - There was none to be found in the kitchen - They served a flan for an appetizer with Truffle oil which I don't eat but they served it without the truffle oil which was ok but tasteless and the dessert was the same thing some sort of circular flan - also tasteless and not very creative - Our New Year's Eve dinner for $115 each was a bomb! won't go back there even if they did serve PASTA -
It seemed like our waiter was really a buser who was promoted due to short staffing on New Year's Eve. He was very nice but did not know much about the food he was serving or the wine. The table was cozy and romantic. We had a nice date and the location was within walking distance of our home. I would recommend the restaurant to others.
We were disappointed with our New Years Eve dinner. The five-course Prix-fix menu was originally advertised as including wine pairings. When we arrived we were informed that it had been an error and that the wine pairings were an additional $38. While the location and ambiance was nice for a special family meal, the food was less than exciting, with the exception of the Sea Bass, which was delicious. The remaining four courses were underwhelming. Too bad as Pasta Moon has been a favorite go-to restaurant for me and my wife for many years.
The food was excellent as was the service. Even though I had made a reservation we were given a table squeezed into the corner. When I asked for a different table I was told that there was none. Not good.
The ambiance of the restaurant is fading. I had to ask the waitress for a new bread plate, as mine had a major chip out of the side and looked really old and beaten up.
I thought the food was excellent but the atmosphere lacked any kind of flair or style.
Remodel, get some nice tables and new plates...it would go a long way to saying this is an experience..
Not going back for awhile.
I have written many times about the food here. This is our favorite restaurant and the food is always incredibly delicious! This time was no different.
We had 8 people in our party. The service was perfect. The staff made sure that all our wishes were granted. The restaurant was very busy, but they allowed our guests to make substitutions and they brought the extra condiments that were requested. Our guests were very pleased with the meal and the service. Hurray!
We came here for my wife's birthday. We're vegetarians and this place did not disappoint when it came to the food. They had some select veggie options and all of them were good. The service however wasn't as up to the mark as I had heard from the prior reviews. I expected a bit more attention given I had mentioned it was my wife's birthday during the reservation, but except for the initial birthday greeting by the lady at the door, there wasn't much effort to make it a special day for my wife. Maybe I was expecting a bit more than usual. In any case will come back for the food. The margherita pizza and the papparedelle pasta were amazing.
Unfortunately, the lasagna had 3 burnt edges and the lemon chicken was bland. The waiter cautioned us that the chicken would take 25 minutes, but it should have tasted much better than it did after that amount of time. Didn't complain or sent it back and that's my fault. But I expected much better from this restaurant after the concierge at the hotel recommended it to me.
We go here a number of times a year (we live about 45 minutes away) and the food and setting is always excellent! Usually the service is terrific but this last time (Dec. 28th) the service was below their standard. We sat down and three different waiters came over three separate times to ask us about what type of water we wanted...ordered the clam chowder, got the vegetable soup (didn't say anything because the veg soup was great)...we had to finally get someone's attention to remove our dirty plates (at least 20 minutes!).... my wife had to remind the waiter about her desert order. All in all, not up to their usual service standards.
