Everything was just done in a special way. I had made reservations for two to celebrate our 30th. When we arrived and said our name, the hostess immediately greeted us with her congratulations and took us to a corner table by the window. The waiter Amanda came with a menu that turned out to be customized with a happy anniversary greeting. Amanda and the rest of the staff really made our dinner very special. The food we ordered were all excellent: the fried California squid, 12hr lamb breast, rockfish with jicama-mint salad, Nancy’s buttermilk biscuit are all winners. And for dessert, they came up with a Meyer lemon panda cotta with heavenly passion fruit and mango sauces but added a generous serving of creme brûlée. It was truly a special meal made possible by caring professional people. Many many thanks again.
The food was tasty and beautifully presented, especially the seabass with pomegranate granita appetizer. Our server was very knowledgeable and personable. It was a lovely evening.
Great food and service.
The place was a little fishy since we walked in.
Great food but the place does not look cool. They need to invest in some indoor design. No atmosphere what so ever.
Super seafood mixed with unexpected herbs and vegetables
Great special menu for my wife
Overall superb evening in all respects
Passionfish is the best fish-oriented restaurant in the Monterey Bay area. In fact, it continues to be just a wonderful place and has sustained its deservedly good reputation. The desserts, while good, could be more interesting and the tables are a bit too close together but we understand that is a space issue. The fish and the sauces are truly spectacular and the amazing wine list is a bonus. Service was very attentive and prompt! We love the restaurant!
Simply outstanding. It never lets me down. One of the best and most consistent restaurants in the entire Monterey area.
Good but not great like it used to be. Sad to see the overall quality & service taking a consistent dip toward mediocrity over the last couple years. I assume this is due to the owners not being there much anymore...
As usual - food was great! Service was great! Things were wonderful!
We are living in Monterey for 3 months & having lots of guests! We take every visitor to Passionfish for dinner and everyone has loved it.
First time visiting, will be back! Excellent meal, allergy specific offerings and accommodations, and just plain delicious!
Fantastic! I would love to see passionfish in every city!
Our visit to Passionfish was practically perfect in every way. The service was warm, welcoming and pleasant, the timing of the meal excellent and, above all, every dish we ordered was delicious. Highly recommended.
Very good food with a focus on sustainability. Our entrees were really good.
The service was outstanding as our server went out of her way to make us feel welcome and taken care of. From the custom 'happy birthday' menu to discreetly relocating us away from a very loud table without us even asking, it was first class service.
This was my third visit to Passionfish and I still can't find fault with the service, the food and esp. the wine list.
It was extremely busy so we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated, but the host honoured my request for a specific seating section.
Def. hope to return, and before too long.
Yummo! Would fly back across the country for this one! The biscuits are to die for.
The food and service were quite good. The wine list was exceptional. But, the true apex was the biscuit. It was, frankly, the best biscuit I have ever eaten. The lamb was excellent. The tuna was superb.
good restaurant but needs improvements to their table assignments...Our table was ready but it took over 25 minutes to seat us !!!
limited vegetarian options
An amazing restaurant with fabulous food and a great staff. The wine list is extensive and impressive. Best food on the Monterey peninsula!! Do not miss this place!
The combination of flavors and textures was super . I have the rockfish, the sauce they used was amazing. I had a Raw Seabass appetizer that was superb. Everyone’s meal was amazing. This is a must try.
We lovee this Restuarant and go there from San Jose to enjoy the best seafood I’ve had anywhere. Food is consistently excellent and so is the service. This time we had the banana bread pudding for desert and it was fabulous too!
When we made our OpenTable reservation, I noted that it was our anniversary. Our first pleasant surprise was that the menu was headed with "Happy Anniversary!" Our server, Samantha, was knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. The only slight glitch in service happened when the young woman serving our salad practically pushed Samantha out of her way as she was serving our wine. Everyone else was great, and the food (shared curry salad, halibut, rockfish, and, of course, Mama's biscuits) was fabulous. We particularly appreciated Passionfish's attention to how their food is harvested. Oh, the wine list did not disappoint either!
Our meals were fabulous, as always! It was my Dad's 81st birthday, and they printed a special menu for him, wishing him Happy Birthday at the top of the page. They couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating for him!
This place is our new favorite restaurant in the area. They have delicious sustainable seafood, great selection of wine that's very reasonably priced and the service was absolutely fantastic! Samantha, our waitress was absolutely the best and we plan to go back again.
We received recommendations from several people and had high expectations for this restaurant, but I guess for us it wasn't the right night. First we were served the wrong entrees...(thank goodness) Rock Fish, I tried a bite and thought it was terrible. I ordered the Artic Char and was very disappointed because the fish was full of bones, and the sauce for the fish was totally overwhelming. My husband had the lamb which was more like a lamb stew and he liked it. We also shared an asparagus salad that was delicious and the biscuits were very good. Glad I had those or I would have left the restaurant very hungry. They did "comp" my meal when I complained about all of the fish bones in my fish...that was a classy move. I was really looking forward to this restaurant but I was unfortunately disappointed, and would not return based on this experience.
Trendy atmosphere with a creative, albeit limited, menu. The buttermilk biscuits are to die for- best I’ve ever eaten.
Fabulous first visit. Waiter told about the most popular dishes and we had a variety of starters and entrees. He buttermilk biscuits were a must have!
One of our group was very disappointed that Passionfish does not have a full bar. She voiced her feelings rather abruptly. Both the hostess and server were very patient and friendly as they needed to repeatedly restate the situation. They effectively dissipated her concern and we all had a lovely evening at your restaurant. I will continue to be a loyal patron.
It was our first time at Passionfish but it will now be a part of our plan when we visit the area. The food was delicious, the service excellent and their attention to our celebration quite satisfying.
We heard many good things about Passionfish. They lived up to their reputation as both the sea scallops and rockfish entrees were wonderful. Wine prices were reasonable. The noise level was a little much but it was a very busy place. Would absolutely go back again.
We visit Carmel-Monterey every year at this time, and Passionfish is always on our itinerary. This is the first experience for us that did not quite measure up. It is was a weeknight and the place was reasonably busy, but not overwhelming. Always get the front dining room if you can. It is more spacious and definitely quieter. My wife loves the Brussels Sprout salad, but it was no longer on the menu. The fried asparagus were a nice appetizer. Wife also loves the seared scallops with a rice custard and it did not disappoint. I went with a pork spaetzle special and it was a disappointment. Had to send it back for re heating, which upset the timing and rhythm of our dinner. They took $10 off the entree price, which I appreciate, but I expect more from this restaurant. Service was a little slow, with entrees coming out one by one. The wine list is extensive, but few options by the glass. They used to tout that they do not mark up their wine by the bottle, but that era seems to have passed. PassionFish is one of our favorite restaurants. I hope they just had an off night.
Creative dishes and amiable, efficient service will ensure our frequent return.
A favorite place for us when visiting the Monterey area. The offerings are interesting, creative and delicious. The wine list is exemplary with lots of local options at reasonable prices. Our experience is that the servers are both knowledgeable and helpful.
We love this restaurant. We eat here every time we make the trip to Pacific Grove. Huge wine list and sustainably caught sea food.
This was a return trip as we looked forward to another fine dinner experience. One in our party was somewhat disappointed with the Spatzel special otherwise food was perfect. Great service from the waitress. We will return!
The wait staff was helpful & friendly. The food was fantastic. The wine was great and priced very reasonably.
Disappointed with food Not comensorate with pricing at all. Very limited menu and no bread. Sorry but biscuits are not dinner rolls or bread. Overhyped.
My husband and I make sure we come here every time we visit the area, at least once a year. The food is always outstanding and creative, and the service the very best. We have never been disappointed in the many years we have been patrons here.
Food and service were exceptional. Lamb signature dish was mouthwatering.
Terrific food, reasonably priced wines.
