My name is Linda and my brother, Paul was visiting from NY. As a regular client of Passionfish, I was anxious for he and his date to experience the restaurant that I have enjoyed for many years and we weren't disappointed! The food and service were outstanding as always and it made a birthday celebration all the more special. Passionfish is an amazing place and I look forward to many more memorable dinners there.

I'm a long time local of PG and have gone to Passionfish a handful of times. I'd go more often, but the servers has always been a bit chilly. The food is quite good, most of the seating is alright, but I tend to feel rushed when I'm there and not terribly welcome. This is the only restaurant in Pacific Grove that feels this way to me. I won't be going back after this last experience in which I was put at what seems to be the worst table in the restaurant even though I had requested a romantic, quiet table. I did get moved when I asked for a better table, but I felt as though they were upset with me. This was not what I expect from an upscale restaurant and it made the experience awkward.

Still one of the best restaurants that I have been to in Bay area and beyond. Had a wonderful meal there this week with friends. Every dish was outstanding and wine also very good.

We also go to Passionfish when we go to Carmel/Monterey area.

We have eaten here a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it. It must have been an off night and that happens. We felt rushed. Our server hovered to the point of being uncomfortable. Our food appeared to be half prepared (unless they changed the recipe). It wasn't the same as what we'd had in the past.

Has usual, excellent service, pleasing environment, distinguishable wine list, superb blending of flavors
"to die for" desserts and would never pass up the "melt in your mouth buttery biscuit." Looking forward to my next dinning experience at Passionfish.

From start to finish our meal was superb. The crispy (fried) kale salad offered a great combination of flavors and textures. The buttermilk biscuit was the best I have ever had. The spoonable lamb entree had a hint of the Greece and North Africa--great combination of flavors. The Arctic char was cooked to perfection, also with an unusual but very successful flavor palate. The wine pairings suggested by our server were excellent. And the dessert, the meyer lemon panna cotta with a passionfruit reduction, was extraordinary. The service was excellent and the price was a bargain given the quality. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I’d call it elevated home cooking - tasty gourmet comfort food - trying to be refined, but doesn’t fully succeed in terms of its presentation. The mostly (well off) elderly clientele (it’s Monterey/Carmel...) does not mind at all. The place was packed on a Thursday night in January. Prices are fair. just come with the right expectations.

Our favorite restaurant in the Pacific Grove/ Monterey area. We have been coming here for years- first when we lived in the area and now we go to Passionfish whenever we are in the area. The food is consistently amazing. Fresh seafood prepared in ways I never imagined- and always delicious. An outstanding place for friends, a date, or even with family. Our 11 year old stated it was the best meal she has ever had in her life (she ordered the child's portion of duck).

We always enjoy this restaurant. Our dinners were excellent as was the service. They do something unusual that I like. Often, the bussing service staff will bring the food items to the table rather than the wait staff. That means there's less delay between the kitchen and the table. Good idea. Do make a reservation. We went early and mid week and, by the time we left, quite a number of people were waiting for a table

Our server (who’s name we unfortunately didn’t catch.... nice lively young girl with glasses) was excellent. A good amount of professionalism, but personable. Not over bearing but we never wanted for anything either. Food was all great. Biscuits and fish stew especially. Even though the restaurant is large it is set up so it isn’t too loud. A lovely nice touch that they put happy birthday on the menu and packed it up for my boyfriend. (Though they dated it 2017! Ha!) Greatly enjoyed and will return!

Delicious and interesting food and courteous service make Passionfish a longtime favorite, a must when we visit PG. This time it was a busy New Years Eve and yet our reservation was on time, the food was delicious, service attentive and unhurried. Particularly enjoyed the evening special appetizer, chile relleno in pumpkin sauce, and succulent large sea scallops from the regular menu.

Haven’t been here for over 6 years. But it is still as good as we remembered it. We came for New Year’s Eve. It was a bit chaotic but the staff was polite and we didn’t have to wait too long for our 7:30 seating. The menu offered a good but selected set of choices. The wine list by glass, half-bottle, or full bottle was about average. Good diversity of choice. We had. Brussels sprouts salad (yes! Brussels sprout salad) was excellent. Our server was also awesome. Glad to see it has kept its standards after all these years.

We Went here with another couple , both celebrating our wedding anniversaries. From the welcoming hostesses to the deserts everything was perfect. All ordered a fish dish which were fresh tasting with generous portions, presentation was lovely and colorful. Before our appetizer came our waitress gave us some good wine tips. Food, drinks and deserts all came in a timely manner making our 34th and 44th anniversaries memorable.

Returned excited, left beyond disappointed.

We dined for the first time at Passionfish last year on New Year’s Eve and have been raving about it to anybody that would listen ever since. Even just the night before we returned, we were chatting up the couple sitting next to us at dinner and insisted that they go to Passionfish at their earliest possible convenience. I’m so embarrassed now.

Last year we couldn’t decide on what to order because everything sounded AMAZING and it was! We had multiple appetizers, salad, main courses, a bottle of wine, and even dessert.

This year we were struggling to find something just to have as a main course.

Personal opinion: I find chefs that rely heavily on heat to add flavor to be unsophisticated and lazy.

We noticed there was a huge infusion of peppers and hot spices into the menu. We worked with our server to see if we could customize a few offerings to eliminate or tone down the obnoxiousness of the spicy factor. Some worked. Some didn’t.

We ended up with the scallop appetizer. Every single bite was grit filled. Clearly whoever is shucking them is either exceptionally careless or an amateur.

For our main courses, we settled for the rockfish and the arctic chard. The presentation was elevated to a fine dining standard, but it was all down hill from there. The rockfish was drowned in a lime sauce that had to be 99% lime juice; completely overpowered the dish. The arctic chard had the opposite problem; flavorless and bone filled as well.

We decided to cut our losses and pack it up without even looking at the dessert offerings.

Since we only come up annually, sadly it’s just not worth risking returning to Passionfish with all the other available options on the peninsula. Having been such an enthusiastic fan, this saddens me.

We were starving when we arrived and asked for bread ASAP. Passionfish doesn't serve bread and asked whether we'd like to order biscuits. So glad we did. They were terrific. The fish here is unbelievably fresh and the preparations are inventive without overwhelming the underlying ingredients. The brussel sprout and grape salad was fantastic. Their scallops must be the most tender anywhere and the savory custard that accompanied them was creamy and subtle. Wonderful place for dinner.

I love the food at Passionfish! A bit too much attitude from our server (she rolled her eyes when we reconsidered our wine order and was a bit condescending) this time for me but the culinary creations far overpower the pretense. Everything is so fresh and I am especially drawn to the chef’s focus on sustainable seafood and the best ingredients. I don’t think there’s anything on the menu less than superb. And the wine list is impressive!

This is the second time I dine in this restaurant. My first time experience, 2.5 years ago celebrating our wedding anniversary while visiting Monterey, was a very nice dining surprise. I was pleased and disappointed on my second visit. The crudo sea bass appetizer with the granita was fabulous but the Chile Rellenos came cold. They promised to make another one and serve it hot and for free but it never happened. The dinner came very, very late. The striped sea bass in my dish was room temperature while the vegetables were nice and hot. The wine (Saxum) that my husband ordered was quite enjoyable. My husband and my friend enjoyed their dinners.

Once again, Passionfish did not disappoint -- in fact, it was superb! We started with the buttery muffin (for him) and the marinated beet/spiced apple/goat cheese starter (for me); amazing. Then, for our main, my companion had the spatzele with shredded pork, and I had the sea scallops with a tomato/truffle coulis, and a savory rice timbale. The scallops were huge (I managed to eat two of the three), and the sauce was excellent (I was tempted to ask for more, on the side, but resisted). We're not big drinkers, so we had a half bottle of a nice white, and no one raised their eyebrows at us. We split a triple-threat dessert (panna cotta, creme brulee, and a meringue), that was small but perfectly-sized, given how rich it was. All superbly prepared, and served promptly. The wait staff and the support staff were all great, even though the place was jammed! No rushing, no testiness, just great service and great food! Cannot wait until we're here again!

Passionfish is our favorite restaurant on the planet. Consistently imaginative cuisine, beautifully imagined, prepared and presented. Sustainably harvested seafood is a specialty and, as always, there were several outstanding choices on the menu. The spicy seafood stew, rockfish, duck and lamb breast were excellent.

The wine list has many obscure gems from around the world. We had a tangy Aligote from Burgundy. Both the food and the wine are reasonably priced--great value. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. Gracious and comfortable but always surprising, too.
