I would recommend as a seafood restaurant. Limited menu, but prepared well. interesting wise selection. Service was slow when we were there, but could have been just folks getting in the swing of things after quarantine.
Birthday out of town visit
Perfect setting for our first venture for indoor dining and it was a home run! The food was spectacular with options for local sustainable seafood and options for vegetarians too! Great wine list!
One of our favorites in the Monterey area. Dinner is always spot on and great selection of wine, including local wines.
Our favorite restaurant in the Monterey area. Every time we visit, we have to reserve a meal here. The food is excellent and there is always something new to try.
Passionfish is our all time favorite restaurant in the Monterey Bay Area. It offers delicious food with lovey presentation, top notch service and reasonable wine prices. Don’t miss the biscuits and crab and avacado salad. Can’t wait to return!
Great food and Service. Do not miss the biscuits. Their fish is always fresh and never dry. They are now indoop
Excellent meal & service. Lalo took good care of us with his attentive (but not intrusive) service. Beet salad & biscuits were delicious + the black cod & halibut were perfectly cooked w/a lovely presentation.
Still feel this is the best restaurant for it's value, service & menu choices.
This is an unpretentious but sophisticated dining establishment.
High level service without excessive pampering and really fresh recipes that span the flavor spectrum from Asian to Mexican to Californian.
Good food. Server helped us pick very good wine to go with it. Really like the starters and crab salad.
Went because of good reviews, for High price food was mediocre. Long wait for food. One reviewer raved about bread pudding, I think they have never had bread pudding...it was terrible. To add insult to injury we had to listen to the lady at the next table talk about her celiac disease for 2 hours
Fish is specialty and the fish itself--I had black cod--was perfectly cooked. But the speed with which I got my dish and the rather cool temperature of the quinoa and carrot side dishes made me think they'd been sitting for too long before the fish was put on. Their wine list is as much of a strength as it always was, well selected and fairly priced. But the Moroccan carrots that came with my dish had wine-killing heat and acid (though despite their temperature were tasty.) Mixed green salad was very good. Service was outstanding.
The food was abysmal. I was in Carmel for the night and selected this restaurant because of its reviews on Yelp and multiple mentions on “best of Carmel/Monterey” lists online. I could not have been more disappointed. There is an extensive wine list, but most of which are by the bottle, with only a few choices available by glass. This would’ve been perfectly fine if all of these few choices had been standout, but they weren’t. I asked to try the Chardonnay, but it tasted vinegary and flavorless. I went with a beer instead, which was fine. To start I had a beer salad with arugula, which was also fine, if not memorable. For my main, I ordered the black cod, as it is locally sourced from the area. The dish was impressively bad. While the fish tasted fresh, it was over cooked. Black cod is such a nice, delicate fish when properly prepared, but the texture is compromised and turns rubbery when over cooked. Served with this over cooked fish was an inexplicably sweet sauce that tasted like little else than some type of sugary syrup, a quinoa mash, and some carrots with a sauce reminiscent of barbecue sauce. The carrots were slightly undercooked and too hard for my taste. The quinoa tasted like nothing. All in all, this main dish failed on every single level. It reminded me of being invited over to a friend’s house for dinner, and that friend has recently decided they want to learn to cook, and this is their first time cooking fish, and they serve you something barely edible, but you nod and say “it’s interesting!” while at least being glad that with each passing bite you choke down, the meal is closer to being over. Only in this case, you have to pay $70 at the conclusion of what was an utterly terrible dining experience. Despite being quite hungry after an active day of running, hiking, and a long drive down from the Bay Area, I could not finish my food. I can’t believe this is what passes for a “quality meal” in Monterey.
This is our favorite restaurant. We sat outdoors, which was pleasant but did not have as much atmosphere as indoors and the service was not very attentive. The food was excellent. My husband likes duck confit and they have the best duck confit that he has found anywhere. I have enjoyed the artic char preparations, both this time and on my previous visit. The caramelized bread pudding was excellent, crisp on the bottom and custard-like on top. I do not usually like bread pudding.
The meal was wonderful. Yummy buttery biscuits and perfectly cooked fish. The service was outstanding and our waitress was delightful.
Lovely staff. Amazing food. I love coming here
The black cod dish was fantastic! Arctic Char was excellent also.
Outstanding food in a calm, quiet, gracious setting. So refreshing to find a place like this.
Our favorite restaurant in the Monterey Bay Area. Always wonderful
The dining experience was amazing. I especially enjoyed the scallops and the artic char. This has always been my go restaurant in the past and they did not fail to impress me again.
Perfectly cooked and the flavors, quite refreshingly, did not blend together. It was a carnival ride for taste buds. Instead of cotton candy we topped it off with Mayer Lemon Mousse and Raspberry Drizzle. Perfectly romantic setting.
My wife has has had the duck confit at Passionfish on several other occasions, She rated the duck good versus the excellent rating she has given the dish in the past. The duck at last nights dinner seemed dry.
I had the spooned lamb roast which I have also purchased at several other dinners. It too was good but not great.
Enjoyed the dinner with our friends at Passion Fish - food was really good, especially their trout ceviche appetizer and the black cod entree. Desserts were also excellent.
Social distancing still in affect, so not sure what the noise level or ambience will be in another week or so. Right now, early June 2021, it’s great. Food outstanding. Wine suggestions were even better than I would have ordered without the waiters suggestions. A delightful experience.
FIRST VISIT SINCE MARCH OF 2020. Food was just as superb, wine list was lovely, and the service was impeccable.
One of the finest fish meals I can remember. and the service was beyond friendly, and added immensely to the evening.
My girlfriend and I went out to Passionfish for date night and we were enamoured by the presentation of the food. I really enjoyed the Artic Char, the parsnips and the red vinaigrette really made the dish. My girlfriend and I agree that the biscuits were amazing! If I wasn't so full I would have bought another 2. Highly recommend!
We ordered the Halibut and Duck Confit. Both were served hot and didn't have to wait too long. The fish was super moist and cooked perfectly. The duck was also moist and the skin was crispy. Very good. The service was pretty good.
Excellent food with professional, timely service. From the start - a warm welcome - to the finish , a comped dessert we were made to feel special and appreciated. The food was outstanding, the service prompt with team effort, and we will return!
Great food with wonderful diversity of choices. Wonderful wine list
Very good food very helpful staff. establishment is a bit old looking. Great wine.
Every course was exceptionally prepared and presented. The cauliflower purée atop some chard was beyond category good.
The food was delicious and the service was great.
Good food. Cozy atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone
Have been here a few times but this time was the food and service were not as nice as before. Needed to ask for everything including water. Coffee was lukewarm.
The reviews don’t lie...this place was absolutely wonderful!!! Super friendly staff and very attentive. The food was delicious and worth every penny! If you’re in the area I highly recommend you stop by and make a reservation as they can get busy!
Passionfish is a must for anyone looking for a delicious, high class dining experience while keeping away from tourist prices. Their selections have great variety and are sustainably fished, and make a memorable evening when paired with their excellent wines.
Flavor combinations were fantastic. Biscuit was to die for! Will dream about the dungeness crab salad. Highly recommend
This was our 2nd visit. Last there about 2, maybe 3 years ago. Lived up to our memory. Superb food, something for everyone. Our 3rd is mostly vegetarian and gluten free. She had the black bean fritters and beet salad. My husband had the fish stew, which is a good size portion with the biscuit for dunking. His main was the Halibut special. I had the scallop appetizer that I had the first visit and the duck confit which was 2 duck legs with thighs. Wine is beyond reasonable prices. Desert we split the Truffle Tort. If we lived closer we'd be there once a month.
The biscuit is really buttery. We had halibut that wad so good, moist. The albacore tuna was good as well. It had cauliflower “rice”. Dessert was bread pudding with ice cream, delicious. I can’t wait to come back.
