The food and service at many restaurants these days can be very good. Passionfish excels at both.
Passionfish has an outstanding well priced wine list that has many varietals I've never tasted.
When I mentioned we would be celebrating my wife's birthday, they had special menus printed which was a very nice touch. I would recommend this restaurant for a night out.

An excellent wine list, but you have careful because much of the food is too spicy to compliment the excellent wines.

Passionfish has become our annual PG vacation favorite! The food, flavors, and presentation are top notch. The servers are very knowledgeable of both the food and the wines. Definitely ask your server for advice on wine to go with your meal. They are always spot on with their recommendations.

What a wonderful dining experience! The service was impeccable and the food was well-thought and delicious. We started with the smoked trout tostaditas. The colors of the dish were vibrant and the portion was perfect. My girlfriend had the Dungeness crab salad which she loved. I had the Brussels sprout salad which was recommended to me and it did not disappoint. For the main course, we had the Arctic Char and the Sea Scallops and both were impressive. I really enjoyed how the chef was able to create such a variety of flavors in each dish the tickled the palate. To close we ordered the chocolate truffle torte. A perfect evening, we will be coming back! Thank you Passionfish!!

The food was fantastic, especially the duck confit. We appreciated the wide variety of wine half bottles. Also the wine prices were retail not double retail. We definitely plan on returning. Oh I forgot to mention the biscuits... extremely good!

As usual, we had an excellent meal at Passionfish. The scallops were cooked and flavored just right. As it was not available as a side, we had the brussel sprout salad, which was very good. Service was excellent as well. Most enjoyable dinner, for our first meal in the Carmel area.

At Passionfish the service, selections, sustainability, and simple quiet ambiance allowed us to focus on the experience of the meal while never intruding on our own relationship. In fact, the meal provided my wife and I a welcome occasion to celebrate, without fuss nor fanfare. The food tasted superb, was fresh and was beautifully presented. The “passion” of this establishment is clearly found in the essence of its plated cuisine, bite by bite. Our waiter’s service mirrored this in her friendly helpful understated approach. We were most delighted and when we return to Pacific Grove, we shall dine here again.

We go to Passionfish at least once a year for special occasions. They have a consummate chef whose seafood preparation is outstanding and the menu is always fresh, seasonal and creative.
The quality of the ingredients is amazing and the wait staff are well-trained and helpful.

One suggestion, after 10 years of the same decor, I'd like to see Passionfish raise their game.
Some color on the walls and some new art work would elevate the dining experience.

We will return to Passionfish every time we're in Pacific Grove.

After working a full day conference, the 4 of us had a very enjoyable meal! The squid was so fresh & tender you really did not need any dipping sauce and the Brussels sprouts shaved salad was light, tasty, & tender as well. 2 of us had the tuna which was wonderfully spiced with their rub and had the perfect amount cooked on the outside and rare on the inside. A fork with light pressure cut through it like butter. The rockfish was delightful. Those Nancy’s biscuits were our dessert. A lovely meal with excellent service.

Service was warm, friendly and helpful. The menu reflected a thoughtful approach, offering a sophisticated selection of dishes. We had the dungeness crab salad and mixed greens salad; a delight in taste and texture. For our entrees we had the grilled trout and scallops; the trout and scallops were cooked to perfection. We enjoyed every bite.

My first course crispy calamari with herb salad in a spicy vinaigrette was a great starter. I also really like my albacore entree with a nice balance of spices, including fennel—yum!
My husband was very disappointed not to have a pasta option. He felt that his brussel sprout starter and scallop entree did not have any contrasting textures and seemed one note.
Dessert was amazing—a deeply flavored chocolate pudding, a wonderful finish!

The food at Passionfish is so consistent and a really great value.

The seafood stew, crab “salad” and scallops are a few of my favorites.

They have a separate gluten free menu for those that are intolerant - and there are only a few things on the menu they can’t alter to be without gluten.

Wonderful food - mostly fish, clams and so on. Fresh and creative. Nice that bread was NOT foisted on you. Fantastic wine menu. Knowledgeable servers. Reservation required!

Our advice to the restaurant: You don't seem to be able to make decent coffee, so forget about it! The tea/herb menu is magnificent!

Our two meals were trout and scallops. Both were excellent. Cheesecake ice cream was also excellent. I was disappointed that no bread was served with the meal. Biscuits were available for a charge but frankly, they don't appeal with this sort of meal. In our several visits this is our first seating in the hall on the right. Frankly, we prefer the other side of the restaurant with windows that you can see out of. Weighing the plusses and minuses, we will return.

Was on our list of recommended places to eat on the Monterey peninsula and did not disappoint. Quite out of the way - nowhere near the tourist-y Cannery Row or Carmel-by-the-Sea main drag. The Jicama-Mint salad that came with our Rockfish was curiously over-salted, otherwise the food rating would have been a 5. The scallops were perfect, the smoked trout ceviche was delightful, the signature buttermilk biscuit could be on the dessert menu, and although almost every place offers some kind of mixed greens salad - theirs was fresh, flavor-balanced and well-dressed.

Of course, no review of Passionfish is complete without mentioning the winelist, and the knowledge of the staff regarding the extensive menu of varietals and how they might pair with the menu items. The service was terrific.

WOW! This place is way better than what we expected. We only stay in Monterey for 1 night. So I was carefully picking up the restaurant. And I feel so glad I chose Passionfish.

The food was just simply amazing, every single dish. We got mix green salad, Saltspring Mussels, Rainow Trout, and Spoonable Lamb. We also got their biscuit as side and Maple banana bread pudding. Our waitress Janet also gave us great recommendation for wine. The only picky part will be some times when we got the dish, it was cool off a little, but I understand this is a very busy restaurant. Still, everything is super yummy! Breadpudding is a must-have.

I think we will come back again just for try more food here.
