Wine list is one of the best around. From value (!!) to the selections, incomparable. INCREDIBLE. It doesn’t make any sense with the food, which is antiquated in concept and poor in execution. Uninspired, outdated (I feel like I could have eaten the same meal in the 80s or 90s), and, bottom line, just not delicious. Really too bad considering the exceptional wine list and competent, cordial, experienced staff/hospitality. I wanted to really LOVE this place, but the food fell flat. Left a literal and figurative bad taste in my mouth.

My wife and I have been here before and were a bit disappointed this time. The rolls were served with butter wrapped in aluminum and no butter knife. The fish did not come with a fish knife. We shared the dessert without an extra plate. Overall everything else was good but they seem to be cutting corners.

Our entrees were all delicious, as was the dessert. The salad dressing was a little too light and the cheese didn’t really harmonize with the greens.
The waitstaff were great and did everything to make us feel comfortable.
We opted for outdoor dining which was lovely on a roof garden. There were some backstage buckets and supplies that could have been covered with a screen. In spite of the heater which was much appreciated it was a little cold - not the fault of the restaurant.

Passion Fish is a must do whenever we visit Monterey peninsula. The Pan seared scallops and risotto soufflé cake is devine. Fish stew is light with the touch of eastern mediterranean spices.
The restaurant staff is very vigilant keeping the restaurant safe against covid 19. I can't wait the day that indoor seating reopens because it is chilly dining outdoor in Pacific Grove.

Ambience was like a cafeteria complete with plastic shower curtains hanging between tables. Staff were stuffy and paranoid. Outfitted with gloves and masks - they would not approach the table unless guests were masked. Ridiculous. This underlies the entire experience and detracted from it. The biscuits were the best I’ve had. Ever. Ahi and Arctic char were delicious. I wouldn’t go back

Everything on the menu is exceptional! Biscuit seems out of place with all the other appetizer options, but it’s there for a reason! It’s outstanding! So much so they offer some to take home to bake yourself. Overall a great dining experience. Will be back.

This is our first indoor meal in a year. The clear shower curtains did not add to the ambiance, although I understood why they were. It was also a nuisance to mask up every time the waiter approached the table, but I understand that, too. But the meal and the service was good. We were both fully vaccinated, although you had no way to know that. Other dining outdoor that we have been to were not that picky. Not a critisum of you, just frustration of the whole pandemic. Looking forward to full indoor dining soon.

The quality of fish is excellent, always fresh and reliably so over the years. Service excellent, very professional. Two things to be aware of: " spicy " really means it, to the extent that hot spice can interfere with wine pairing. (ex. Tostaditos, way better with beer or water chaser than fine wine.) Second thing: check temperature of chilled wine before opening. Way too cold. Small suggestion to management: Arctic char has bones that the diner should know about.

We happily make the drive from San Jose to Pacific Grove every once in awhile specifically to dine at Passionfish for special occasions. We're glad that they've been able to utilize the property to offer outdoor dining and it seems to have worked out very well. Smoked trout ceviche tostaditas, warm brussels sprouts salad, black cod for my wife, arctic chard for me and TWO desserts this time. Even though we are usually full by the end of the entree we knew we had to have the maple banana bread pudding but the mint and espresso mud pie looked too good to pass up so we indulged.

Thank you to all staff for another delicious meal!

At this time, social distancing is enforced as is mask-wearing. Hand sanitizer is provided. Thanks for helping to keep us safe.

despite the covid protocols, the atmosphere was elegant. the hanging dividers are quite a design success!! the wait staff were very informative about wine pairings, and all work masks at all time. the food, as usual, was perfect. a couple of the offerings had too many odd (to me) spice combinations which limited my choice of entree

Passionfish appears to be the only restaurant in Pacific Grove that is following Monterey County and California State requirements for the safety of waitstaff and dinner guests. They take extra precautions as well. I greatly appreciated this. My dinner (black cod on a bed of quinoa with cardamom sauce and green onion cream) was excellent, as was the mixed wild greens salad. The service was impeccable. If you don't love seafood, Passionfish offers equally elegant non-seafood options. Their prices are quite reasonable when you consider that this is an upscale restaurant. This includes their wine by the glass. There are no other restaurants in Pacific Grove that come close to this quality and originality of cuisine.

We ate here on account of my boyfriend's boss recommending the location and we were not disappointed. It was dog friendly which was a huge plus, and even though we were outside they had enough heaters going where we were not cold. We had the tuna and the scallops, and everything was fresh and both dishes were well executed. If you are doing a nice date night, anniversary, or a birthday, this is an excellent choice!

Fantastic food! Almost every dish had something to surprise the senses, and all were exceeding cooked to perfection. The scallop appetizer had only one scallop, but it was big enough to share, and with the risotto cake stuffed with tender artichokes, was filling as well. The fried calamari is the best I’ve had anywhere, anytime. The crab salad was packed with Dungeness and avocado, surrounded by tender hunks of fennel, atop a vinaigrette that didn’t add anything to the almost ethereal experience. As others have noted, the warm Brussels sprouts salad is not to be missed. The albacore was seared well, but the crust lacked the umami needed to carry the tender fish to the heights it deserved. The waitstaff were kind and attentive, never overbearing, and took all the proper COVID précautions. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The food was delicious. Biscuits were amazing. The service was awkward with social distancing and our waitress was quite anxious and kept jumping back. We were seated outside and frankly it was miserably cold. Staff refused to move our heater closer as they said it would be in their service path. Overall this was a huge disappointment. I understand with Covid that changes must be made but the restaurant did not adapt gracefully and we left as soon as our food was eaten. I left half of my dinner because I was nearly frozen to death. Plastic cages for inside dining were just awkward. No atmosphere at all which was sad.
