We were taking a trip up the California coast. Our Inn (Seven Gables) recommended Passionfish. We were blown away by the fantastic assortment of unique dishes. I had lamb that was slow cooked. My wife had the duck confit. Both were amazing. At the next table we’re a couple. Both of them are sommeliers. They were telling us that the wine menu was put together by someone who really knows wines well. In addition, the wine prices were way below what is typically charged in such a nice restaurant. Do yourself a favor and visit this very special restaurant.

We dined outside next to a heat lamp, wearing warm coats, and it was lovely to be out in the fresh air. I had the duck confit and it was fantastic. My husband had the salmon and it was also excellent. Service was friendly and competent. We both agreed that it was one of the best dining experiences in recent memory.

Have dined at Passion Fish previously; disappointed this time on several account: limited menu, general small portion sizes and spicing of dishes that overwhelmed the basic ingredients. Had to ask twice for coffee refill. Restaurant does not offer espresso or other specialty coffees. Impression is that restaurant is cost cutting.

Our two fish entrees were excellent tasting, but we felt that they were somewhat skimpy in that they did not really include a vegetable serving on the side. Our scallop appetizer was also excellent tasting, but it was a very small portion and definitely not worth $12. We felt that the waiter should have forewarned us that the scallop appetizer was a small portion. Also, the bread was not complimentary with the meal, but had to be ordered at an additional price. This made us feel like the restaurant was trying to take advantage of us. Also, the restaurant did not seem to have a glass of wine less than $12 which seemed rather steep for a value-conscious diner. In summary,

I love that their whole staff is fully vaccinated and everyone was very friendly and accommodating. They were able to seat us earlier since we got there before our reservation and accommodate some food allergies in our party.

The food was fantastic, the wine list is over the top and brilliantly nerdy. The service was spot on with a combination of professional and familial. Could not have been better.

Food was mediocre. Overcooked fish and duck. Appetizers had good intention and bad execution. Flavors were awful.

Great food. Fried squid was amazing (best sauce ever). Actually all the sauces were amazing. If you are used to prices in the Bay Area or Tahoe you will find the prices quite reasonable and food that’s way better then a lot of places that cost more. Nice ambience and wine list.

I loved PassionFish the two previous times I've eaten there in past visits to Pacific Grove. This time my feeling were mixed. I had Duck Confit, which was very good but less than ideal (as it usually in in France). The wine was also good, but a very small portion, over-priced for that quantity.

Service was excellent, as was ambience.

As always, the food was great, although the halibut was a little over cooked, and we MISSED THE BISCUITS. Hopefully you can get the biscuit oven replaced or repaired soon.

My wife and I have been going to Passionfish for over 15 years. It is our go to place for special occasions, like our anniversary, Valentines and when we just want to escape to a great place. We are both vegetarians who once or twice a year, eat the fish dishes that are prepared by the talented artists that work in the kitchen at Passionfish. The ambiance, the atmosphere, the wine list and the food keep us coming back. I highly recommend this gem on the peninsula to anyone wanting a superb dining experience.

This was probably my worst dining experience in a few years. The fish was not fresh. Somehow are order got lost in the kitchen and we waited over 45 minutes for our first course. There are much better places than this one.

The food was excellent but our coffee with dessert was at best luke warm. Even after sending it back, the coffee was no better than Luke warm. The restaurant needs to look at their thermos or maybe their whole coffee delivery.

The mixed green salad, halibut and bread pudding were excellent. The rock cod was dry and either previously frozen or over cooked. Our server did not ask if we liked our entrees. I would recommend Passionfish with some reservations.

It was quite wonderful. Admittedly pricey but I'm old and I don't go out much so it seemed very on par w/ other restaurants I read about. That said, I thought it worth every considerable penny. I had mahi which I never cook because I've never practiced enough to make it wonderful but this was just amazing.....w/ the parsnips and the pickled onion. Who knew such a mouthful could taste so delicious! Also the servers were very kind. I had walked for 6.5 hours, (I was trying to walk 17 mi drive for my 70th bday. I got off course so I don't really know how far I went but it was long enough), so I was a little cold when I got there and worried about getting colder. But your guy fired up the heater and they kept bringing me hot water and I was just fine. It was really good.

We came here for a friend’s birthday and had a great time. First of all THANK YOU to Passionfish for still offering outdoor dining. The patio area is nicely spaced out and the service out there was great. They had a heat lamp at each table allowing us to fine tune the temperature for our group (60F outside).

We started with the beet salad (loved it), the calamari (also fab but very spicy!), and the scallop (yes one scallop). The scallop was tasty but too little for the price. However the fried whipped cheese served with it almost makes up for that (loved the cheese!) For entrees we really loved the duck confit and the rockfish with roasted sweet corn and tomatoes. Yum! The Alaskan halibut was good but not as good as the rockfish. Fortunately it was accompanied by a lovely savory rice pudding that was mouthwateringly good and we all had yummy seasonal sides of vegetables cooked perfectly. Sadly they were out of the pannacotta that night, but the decaf coffee was perfect.

We had only a nice cider and a glass of Pinot noir, but if you’re into wine there are hundreds and hundreds of bottles on the wine list grouped into enigmatically named themes.

All and all a great spot for a nice evening in Pacific Grove.

Value: appetizer was not worth value; entree, on the hand, was generous. Menu was greatly changed from pre-Covid when I was last in. In stead of subtle (wonderful) sauces--more spicy now than subtle. Still good, but miss the wonderful sauces.

Our food was great. We were seated on time and were generally pleased with the experience. The food took a very long time to be served. we were served 55 mins at the table before we got our food. We ordered entrees only but there was no bread or anything else offered in the interim.
We were seated along the back wall in the middle table. One of the track lights above our heads was fickering on and off all evening which was very distracting. We happened to have a very loud group of golfers at the next table who also were quite distracting.
On a very positive note the preparations of the entrees were outstanding, creative and delicious.
