My mom and I had planned a weekend get-away as our Christmas gift to each other. Little did we know that the Coronavirus epidemic would fall around the same time. We kept our plans, but took extra precautions (extra sanitizer, washing hands excessively, etc.) while we were away. We had dinner at Passionfish on our last night and while we were only one of three couples in the entire restaurant, the experience did not disappoint. The staff was appreciative of our business and very friendly. The food was excellent! We can’t wait to go back, hopefully soon, and will recommend this restaurant to others. We are glad we visited when we did as the restaurant had to temporarily close the following day.

creative and unique dishes. we all loved our meals, but I especially loved the biscuits from the appetizer/starter menu. Who would have thunk biscuits could be that delicious? I honestly think they were best I've ever had. everything was flavorful, well portioned, and wonderfully textural.

I received a gift card to Passionfish and tried going with my spouse. He does not like seafood, but pretty much every seafood restaurant offers a steak, pork, chicken or pasta dish. Nope. Not here. The only non-fish options are duck and lamb, and neither appealed to him. We left without dining. I took a girlfriend so I could use my gift card. Our entrees were around $30 and the portions, though delicious, were tiny! I didn’t order a starter or salad because we both have small appetites, but even we were left hungry. I had the scallops with truffle, greens and risotto. It came with three moderate-sized scallops, maybe a cup of greens and small serving risotto. We split a dessert, which was also tiny. Delicious, but tiny. We should have each gotten our own. When I got home I made myself a snack. $100 dinner for two (we each had a glass of sparkling wine), $120 with tip (great service), shouldn’t leave two people still hungry. I won’t be back.

The seared ahi was excellent and cooked exactly right. We really enjoyed the Citrus salad special.
The wine list is a treat and we had a
Half bottle of Montrachet. There is no other restaurant on the Peninsula where I could purchase Montrachet at so reasonable a price. The service was excellent.

Wine list is great and fantastically priced. Food is B+ with some great standouts but the menu hasn’t changed in years and the service could be slightly more polished in some areas. Very positive experience overall and we’ll be back for sure. Just left wanting a bit more...

We enjoyed this creative restaurant focusing on seafood in a most original way. From the appetizers to the desserts everything served here is presented in a deliciously unexpected way, and the service is so friendly you would think that it was your grandmother who was cooking up these original recipes in the kitchen. It is no wonder that it is on the top of the recommended list in the Monterey area.

Their wine cellar is excellent, and I have rarely seen such reasonable prices for top tier wines. This is an explicit policy on the part of the restaurant, who believes that good wine should always be affordable for their guests. One quibble, though, their selection of wines "by the glass" is very sparse. Couldn't they open their cellar a bit wider? Not every table can or wants to consume a whole bottle (some people don't consume alcohol at all).

This restaurant is so well known, at least in the Pacific Grove area, that it hardly needs another recommendation. However, it was so good, that I can't resist. Start with our server, Cara(sp?): by the time we finished dinner, we both felt we'd made a new friend, one whose expertise substantially increased the quality of our experience. Then the food: excellent ingredients, expertly prepared and presented, and possessing of unusual and delicious flavors. A small wine list, but quality wines. We had the least costly Pinot Noir and it was very good. Portions are quite generous, and given the quality of the food, I would have been content if they'd been somewhat smaller so that I would not have found it necessary to waddle out to the car after we finished.

The ambiance and service was great, scallop appetiser was delicious. disappointed in the black cod, too much on top and bottom of the fish. Artic Char was tasty but not wow!

This restaurant has maintained high quality food and service for over 8 years since we began to eat there for special occasions. There wasn't any specific reason for this recent visit: just friends dining out together. My crusted tuna was outstanding and the crab salad met my friend's memory for deliciousness with the exception of the arugula greens being too spicy for her taste (we did not ask for any replacement as she was overall quite pleased with the plate). As a general suggestion: fish and seafood rule here with freshness and sustainability both winning. Enjoy a relaxing and delicious dinner. Make a reservation for weekend evenings.

First time at Passionfish
Have to say rainbow trout was cooked to perfection and something you rarely see on a menu. Loved it
My husband had black cod which was absolutely like butter but with so many bones he wished that he too would have ordered trout.

The food, wine, and service were amazing. Can’t wait to go back! The ambiance could use some help though. Diner-like setting with white table cloths to improve the look. Also, the lights were very bright for dinner time. The vibe wasn’t very romantic but would be great for dinner with friends or a group outing.

Not an expansive menu but nice variety and presentation. Biscuits were really good. Portions were ample. Wine list amazing and fairly priced. Service friendly and attentive.

Food was generally not very good, & definitely over-priced. We have eaten here at least 10 times over the past year, & this is the first time that the food quality has not been good. And that was the feeling among all 6 people at our table, despite the fact that we all had different entrees.

My Aunt and I had a girls weekend in Monterey and I wanted to treat her to a lovely dinner. We have a wonderful experience with excellent service and fantastic food but the extra details really made a difference for us. Such as the waiter made excellent wine pairing suggestions.
Hands down I will be back!

Passionfish never disappoints and we’ve been going there for over 20 years! The staff is wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable and the fresh fish delicious, the wine choices wonderful. Our meals are always memorable and it’s a fun place to celebrate with family and friends. Good value, too!

The food and service were excellent. Also I have a food allergy and they are so helpful with a separate menu listing each entree and any allergens associated with that dish. All in all we had a wonderful experience and will return next time we visit Monterey.

We'd read good reviews but were very disappointed. Made a reservation but the host walked past several open tables to seat us at rear of the restaurant. We objected to noise and were seated at a table we'd passed. Salad was very fresh. After we finished, a woman at the next table complained about her meal and was brought almost immediately the scallop dish my wife had ordered. We waited 15 minutes more until our meal was ready. The three scallops (for $29) were very nice, but the "risotto custard" was tasteless mush and the greens were unidentified. We complained to the waitress who said/lied that the scallops had come from someone at the rear of the restaurant. It all left a bad taste.

We were visiting the area from NY and found Passionfish online. We loved it. The food was delicious and very fresh. The service was wonderful. Overall we had a very nice dinner and would recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Pacific Grove.

We had a great experience at PassionFish! The food was excellent (I had the rock cod), the wine was excellent, service was great. Our waitress, Tara, was very professional but also warm and friendly. Ambience could've been a little better. It was a bit noisy but everyone was having a good time and we could still carry on a conversation without too much difficulty. I would definitely recommend PassionFish!

Second time to Passionfish and we had an excellent meal. The striped bass crudo is like a mouthful of a warm day at the beach -- the star in my book. The fried California squid app was also excellent, with a light batter and soft bite but then the ginger-based drizzle is like a wallop of flavor. Duck confit was quite nice, though I found the sauce a little sweet and I prefer savory with duck. Basil rainbow trout was excellent as well. The citrus pannacotta dessert is light and fabulous. Can't wait until we're back in town to stop by again!

The Black Cod over riced celery root, topped with arugula and a mystical sauce was the best fish
I have had in many years! Wife's scallops were melt in your mouth delicious!
The dessert selection with digest-if wines is always lovely!
