Excellent waiter (who brought us the most buttery chardonnay as I requestrd..mudos!) and outstanding food and presentation! I brought a long time friend who went to the Naval Postgraduate School here in the 80s.He inhaled his halibut and couldn't think of word enough to describe the trout appetizer and the biscuits. It was a perfect dinner.

This is our third visit and we have had very good experiences each time. This time my husband had the grilled shrimp which was excellent. Unfortunately my trout with sweet potatoe rice was very bland. My banana bread pudding for dessert, however, was delicious.

Our first time at Passionfish. Was recommended by a friend. Our server was friendly and helpful. We started with Thai shrimp salad. Spicy and excellent. My wife had lamb breast , so tender and tasty. I had the scallops with tomato truffle butter sauce and savory rice custard. It was incredible. We both had a biscuit which are to die for. In fact we took 6 frozen biscuits home to enjoy again. Overall we had an incredible dinner and were very impressed with Passionfish. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

This was our second visit to Passionfish. It is away from the downtown bustle and more of a 'neighborhood' restaurant than one that caters to the crowds near the aquarium and wharf. Everything about it is low key and a really pleasant dining experience. Will definitely be back!

My entree was just OK. The lamb was the tender and mild in flavor. It's accompanying chick pea stew was good but could actually be better with a bit more heat and a bit of Al Ras Hanoot. My lady's salmon dish was a disaster of flavors. The basil broth was more of a thick creamy sauce flavored with both basil and dill. I've never had those two herbs paired together and frankly if I can avoid it never will again. The soubise sauce was a thick paste that tasted like thanksgiving turkey stuffing. This was dish was far and away the worst thing we tried. Who the hell was letting this food beyond the pass? So we skipped dessert and paid the $136 bill.

Returned to Passionfish after a 14-year hiatus and I have to say — it was as good as ever. This place is a gem on the Monterey Peninsula and is easily one of my favorite restaurants. The food is amazing and the wine list impressive, but I think what really makes the place is the service. We had, hands down, the best service of any of the restaurants where we’ve dined in the Monterey-PG area. We will make it a point to come back here every time we visit the area.

The quality of food and service is outstanding as it has been on several other visits. Some of the best seafood dishes and preparations in the area, and for that matter, in the Boston area where we live. Our server was very helpful and knowledgable about the wines and all the dishes. The interior is of understated elegance and tastefulness, with interesting ocean-related photography displayed, and one of the quietest restaurants we've been to. The only small gripe was that the shrimp in the Grilled Shrimp dish were overcooked but the bean accompaniment with the dish was excellent. The Sea Scallops and fixings were very very good. The low-mark-up on wine allowed us to have one we'd never have afforded, either in a restaurant or from a store - Rombauer chardonnay -- superb. This is our fav restaurant in PG with quality on the level of Roy's at the Spanish Bay Inn but for quite a bit less $$$.

We always enjoy dining at Passionfish when we are in town. Scallop and blackbean fritters are our favorites. Shrimp and duck confit entrées were excellent. Wine is reasonably priced. Our server was very good and let us enjoy our experience at our own pace, which was much appreciated.

Passionfish is one of the few seafood restaurants that transcends my expectations! The bisquits were warm, nice, and crispy. The halibut was tender, and the mud pie was a cool breeze on this hot summer day.

We came for our anniversary and were not disappointed. We were greeted with "happy anniversary" at the front desk as well as by our server. Left a voicemail to postpone our reservation by an hour and received an approval response within 30 minutes. Our server and service was excellent. My wife had the mussels which were excellent and I had the sea scallops which were delicious. We ordered a biscuit to see what other reviewers had raved about and couldn't believe how different and tasty it was. Finally, we were treated with a complementary scoop of ice cream with passion fruit sauce for our anniversary.

Extremely disappointed on this visit. Have been many times and this experience Was not up to par. When we ordered our special bottle of sparkling wine we were not shown the label as it was served. Our appetizers were delivered long before the wine was delivered. We had to ask the server three times where the wine was.The second bottle we ordered off the menu was not available. We also noticed the table next to us having the same wine experience. This was especially disheartening, because we make a special point to spend a night in Pacific Grove solely to dine at passion fish when we are in the area.

Despite high expectations this was one of the worst dining experiences. The food was overcooked and sauces were inedible. We did not finish any of the food. Service was very slow and mostly missing. A bottle of wine was ordered soon after we were seated, and after more than 30 minutes we were told that wine was unavailable. It took at lest 30 minutes more to be served an alternate bottle. We waited over an hour and a half for the entrees to be served. We couldn’t wait to leave. Avoid this restaurant.

The minute we stepped in for our dinner reservation we greeted by the hostess. Though we were early by 15 minutes, we were promptly seated. It didn’t take long for our waiter to come and ask us what type of water we wanted: still or sparkling. We started our meal with the crab salad. Loved it. Though one my bite had a little bit of crab shell, I overlooked that flaw as it was a yummy tasty starter. The let down of evening was the duck confit I had. It was over cooked and the meat was dried out. At least we ended the evening on a high note with the bread pudding. Be careful it is a bit on the sweet side.

Some dishes too rich, overpriced and overrated. We ordered the scallops and Thai salad as appetizers. There was one large scallop and the rest was breaded and too rich and not particularly good. The Thai salad had way too much chili in it, not suited for those who like mild spice. The tajine was lots of lentils and a few vegetables and not particularly tasty. The panna cotta was too runny. On the positive side, the trout was very good although the tartar sauce was too rich, the lamb was delicious, and the halibut was excellent. We came away with difficult to digest stomachs and a feeling like this is a place for diners who want a different and more commercial rather than fine culinary experience. The service was excellent and nothing in this review should take away from the attentiveness that we were afforded during our visit.
