The restaurant seemed to be having a problem with their hood ventilation. The restaurant smelled like fryer oil. Food was ok. Service was friendly, but a little off.
Parlour is a very nice restaurant. On this particular occasion it was a bit uneven. The fired calamari appetizer was delicious. My pasta with clams was a bit under-seasoned, and really could have used some grated Parmesan on top. The doughnuts for dessert were delicious. I will definitely be going back.
Our work department enjoyed a wonderfully prepared lunch. The service was attentive and always checked if we needed anything. The restaurant smelled delicious and had such an attractive rustic cool decor.
Pizza was great!!! Pasta was tasteless and appetizer size yet it was listed as an entree. Waitress seemed completely distracted and didn’t know her menu or specials. Very small and limited menu.
Got a second date!
very good service. drinks were very tasty and food was delicious. will go back soon!
Cocktails were great. Sadly, the pasta was lackluster and the gnocchi was like balls of mush.
We arrived early on Friday 6:15 I felt that the service was disorgainzed at that point and that we were not getting full service we had to ask for things like plates??
I will return, thought the margarita and the Brussels sprouts were Yummy and worth another trip. We ordered two pizzas the second with round onions I probably won’t order again.
Great venue. Wonderful food! Delightful staff. Will go back again for sure!
Excellent fresh pasta dish and great service. Chairs a bit uncomfortable but a minor issue
Amazing food and great service!!!
Parlour is a great place to eat before a show at The Fox Theater. I had a terrific lamb bolognese and my friend had the baked pasta dish. Both were delicious.
The Pork Chop was absolutely delicious.
We've been wanting to try Parlour for some time and finally made it. It's kind of
"Industrial Modern" but has a comfortable feeling. The food choices are limited but
everyone in my party enjoyed their food. Service was very good and we had plenty
of time to walk to the Paramount for the concert. You should give this eatery a
try; you won't be disappointed.
Fabulous! the food sparkled! wow!! Definitely will be coming back to Oakland to go dine at Parlour!
We went here for Valentine’s Day, and it was so bad, it was laughable (literally, my husband and I were laughing).
I chose it bc it had good reviews and lots of good options on the menu, but when we got there it was a pri fixe menu (usually it tells you on the website if there will be one, and it didn’t, but whatever).
There were two options for each course, and basically no vegetarian options. They said they could change a few things for us, which was fine. The first course was 3 slices of beets, the second was a plain noodle dish with a few random veggies thrown in and no sauce (like they just didn’t put the meat part of the dish on), and third was a risotto with the same random veggies (butternut squash and cut up cherry tomatoes). It was obvious they hadn’t thought out veggie options at all since there was 0 protein, but even besides that, the dishes had no flavor whatsoever. Even the dessert was unpleasant: the sorbet had a strange after taste and the “red velvet cake” was like a dried out chocolate muffin. And on top of that, it took 25-30 minutes for each course to come out.
I usually don’t complain or leave reviews but this was just terrible. After we left, we went to go get second dinner!
Went for a Vday lunch with hubby( toddler was at daycare). Food was good, service was fast and price was right.
Best steak in Oakland.
Love this place though the noise level really is an issue. It’s overwhelming just walking in.
We went to Parlour on a stormy night, and had one of our favorite meals in recent memory. The two of us shared a citrus salad with wonderfully tender radicchio, followed by gnocchi with butternut squash. Our main was wood-fired salmon, and we finished off with a single scoop of buffalo gelato. Portions were modest, but the dishes were interesting, delicious and well-timed. Service was excellent and relaxed. The restaurant was not crowded due to the weather, but had a good vibe. Oh, and the cocktails were fun and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
Great food and drink, but what really stood out was the service. The server, bartender, and manager all were fantastic.
Great food, great service! This is definitely a great Oakland restaurant.
Big disappointment. Place was quite empty yet service was poor and food was not even remotely worth the cost.
Starting with the positive... great ambiance, sourdough bread was delicious, Diablo pizza was really good but super spicy (which I LOVE, but I could see it being too spicy for most people)... 2 of the 4 wines on the menu were out and 1 was terrible, made it hard to get a bottle for the group. I ordered the cacio e pepe, which is one of my favorite pasta dishes, this one was literally noodles with pepper, a nickel size of cheese, and no sauce - it was horrible. They did remove it from the bill for us. We also ordered the spaghetti, which was more of a sweet butternut squash carbonara. It was good but not what we expected when ordering spaghetti, since it had no explanation we expected a red sauce. Some major menu changes are needed, at least provide more accurate descriptions to avoid disappointment.
Food was good but not amazingly flavored. Choices for wine by the glass were disappointing- overpriced and not very good.
Service was good; our server was so nice and welcoming.
Spaghetti could have been salted. Chicken was tender but the balsamic glaze was overdone and hardened on the plate when we got it.
Great meal and ambiance, nice new option in downtown Oakland.
Fabulous find! I needed to have a business lunch and could not have been happier with the ambience and food and drink. I had the most delicious mocktail. The Margherita pizza was super as was the salad.
I love Parlour because it's an excellent experience every time. Beautiful restaurant, perfect ambient lighting, wonderful staff, and the food is done so well. I have been coming to the restaurant for years now. I love it. I highly recommend it.
I rarely am impressed nor give all five stars to all categories. But this was a great discovery. We even had a chance to speak with the chef. He sources his food locally and changes his menu seasonally. Dishes were creative and most of all, delicious. The desserts were to die for. The host and staff were genuinely attentive but not overbearing.
Good value for food quality and flavors. Our first time to visit and were pleasantly surprised at quality and the relatively moderate prices. Will definitely go again and recommend to others. Friendly service and nice casual ambiance. Steak was tender and flavorful with wonderful accompanying side accents/flavors. Pastas good and salad was fresh.
Terrible service, especially when prices are so high. It took over 30 minutes after we ordered to get the first course and then we had to wait another ten minutes to eat it because they didn't bring a spoon. I will not go back.
My husband and I had a lovely experience during our first visit. The staff were professional, providing excellent knowledgeable friendly service. The bar program was well thought out and I also appreciated that wine was available by carafe, as well as by the glass and bottle. Well balanced Saturday prix fixe menu with a range of seasonal options that were good value--quality ingredients, appropriate portions, excellent execution. The food was delicious and the presentation was attractive but not precious. We will return.
The food was delicious, but the portions small for the price. We had very attentive and helpful service and really appreciated that the kitchen was willing to do a cheese plate for us for dessert. Especially yummy was the octopus and the rabbit!
Although there's not a huge selection on the lunch menu, (primarily pizza, pasta, soup & salad), the food quality here is great! The handmade pizzas are delicious- thin crust with a nice balance of crispy on the outside and just a tad chewy in the center, perfect zesty sauce- I hate when pizza sauce is too sweet- not the case here. They also don't go overboard with exotic toppings- basic meats and cheeses. Their salads are very tasty and fresh. For a meal, I'd add chicken to either salad option- both are great. Overall, this is a good place for lunch or a casual dinner date. Looking forward to going after work soon to check out their wine list.
Great food! Very interesting plates, the portions were a little on the small side. Service was good but a little slow at times. Overall great experience.
We haven't been in a while and was disappointed in the food. The pizza was still great but the meatballs were mushy and the sauce a bit tasteless. The gnocchi wasn't very good either they were too big, hard an doughy. The sauce was great but we left the dish. We'll try again but maybe stck to pizza. Nice wine list
I had been to Parlour for happy hour before and really liked the food, the drinks, and the service. When my friends were looking for a place to catch up, I suggested Parlour without hesitation.
Well, the food is still good.
The service was poor and unapologetic. The gentleman who seated us made a remark about how he'd make an exception about giving us the happy hour menu even though we were in the dining room -- although I had ordered from the HH menu from the dining room before.
The our waitress came. She brought us the wrong food, and we pointed out that it wasn't what we had ordered, but she wasn't apologetic about it. She just shrugged and made no attempt to correct the issue. She suggested drinks that weren't remotely what we had asked for. She oversold the expensive drinks on the menu that didn't live up to her claims.
I'm so disappointed in my Parlour experience that I won't be back, and I suggest everyone stay far away, unless they're only coming here for the food and don't expect any service.
Good to solid but pasta portion is way too small as a main course.
Great space, good service, energetic atmosphere. Unfortunately the portions were absolutely minute!
3rd (and final) visit to Parlour. Quality and service have progressively worsened over 2 years. Our party hardly had a moment to greet one another or glance at the menu when our curt waitress announced there was no bread and dove into taking drink orders. We ordered 2 bottles of red, both very warm, and had to ask to put them on ice to at least cool a bit. Appetizers were good- burrata, polpette, peppers. The main dishes were a different story. Was hoping the pasta, a very small portion for $22, would at least make up for the high price in flavor. Unfortunately, very bland, very little protein. We asked for parmesan and salt , anything to add flavor, and she brought back a salt shaker and tiny ramekin of parmesan for 4 pastas. One of our older guests asked for a piece of bread, perhaps the toast that was served with the polpette, just anything to stretch out the small portion. Waitress just said no. Dessert was tiramisu. Sorry, that was not tiramisu, it was more like a piece of frozen chocolate cake. We love Oakland. We are not complainers, but this experience was an expensive disappointment. Don't open on Monday if you can't supply bread or don't want to come to work.
