Parkway Grill Ratings and Reviews
We enjoyed a Saturday lunch at Parkway Grill with family members. The dining room was comfortable with an understated elegance, beautifully decorated for the holidays. I had the scallop salad which was delicious. Others really enjoyed the shrimp linguine. All in all, a lovely experience.
The Parkway Grill has a lovely atmosphere and is one of the few places where a group can dine comfortably and carry on a conversation. During the holiday season it is beautifully decorated and reflects the genteel atmosphere of old Pasadena. The service was attentive and patiently waited for us to make our orders. The menu is extensive and requires a bit of study for those not familiar with the offerings. The appetizers and desserts are big enough to share and the food is good but in some ways needs a bit of updating. That said, there is always "something for everyone" in its vast choices. We especially enjoyed the creme brulee napoleon.
Perhaps, with all the restaurant choices now in Pasadena, the Parkway is not getting the attention it deserves. It is a lovely place to take out-of-town guests, to celebrate a special occasion or just to enjoy the comforts of fine dining.
Parkway Grill is my go-to-place for special occasions. The food is always great and has never missed. My girls are still very young, so they are picky about their food. They ate up the pasta without fuss. The service is the best. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Thanks for a great time as always!
It must have been an off night last night.
Service was not up to par. Bread did not arrive until main course was served. Apps were great. Shrimp corn dogs and crab cakes were perfect.
Mains were white fish and Chilean sea bass. The reviews for those were good. The lamb chops not so much. These arrived warm at best and only one had bone.
We really expected more and parkway grill did not meet our expectations.
The food was, as usual, very good. The service, not as usual, was terrible. There is no excuse for a restaurant this expensive to have such terrible service. It took a long time for our pre-dinner drinks to come and they didn't all come at the same time. There was a long delay in getting our main courses and our waitress explained that the kitchen was "backed up," even though the restaurant was only half full when our food finally came. Water glasses went unfilled. A waiter tried to take one plate away when other people at the table were still eating. Etc. Simply inexcusable. We have been here several times in the past few months, and up until now, the service has been excellent. This time the whole meal was ruined by an incompetent, unprofessional and inexperienced waitress.
Been dining at Parkway since it opened. Always festive at Xmas. Definitely niot as good as it used to be in the day but much more competition now. Disappointed about the cocoa crepe not being on the menu as well as the salmon tower /with mashed potatoes and papaya salsa. Wait staff was great as always , forgot to ask for Ron, he's been waiting on me for years. Probably wouldn't come back. I ordered the lamb lollipops, (not as good as Flemings) then the scallop salad (too heavily dressed). My suggestion? Do the scallop salad on succotash instead. Wisteria in Sierra Madre has that down. I still go to the Chop House occasionally. Will probably stick to that from now on.
This is a lovely special occasion restaurant. Went for my birthday, they do make an effort. But I don't think the food has changed in years. Think they may be resting on their laurels. Appetizer prawns were not nearly as good as I remember. Scallops were good but quite small.
I do have one complaint, about my Old Fashioned, which I order only for special occasions. I could not taste ANY alcohol. I tasted my son in law's to compare , not good manners maybe, and his was so strong that I honestly thought the bartender mixed up and put two shots in his and none in mine. For real. So I complained, which is not something I often do. The waiter took it back for a "redo" and the new one was the same!! What gives? I drink rarely but I know a good drink.
To the waiter's credit, he brought me a complimentary shot of their high end brandy (? ) which I added to my drink. Then it tasted about right!
We took my mother here for her birthday and had a lovely experience. We had the tuna tartare and bacon wrapped dates for appetizers, and the table agreed that both were amazing. Two of us ordered the special of the night, which was salmon, and I must say that it was the best salmon I've ever had. I wish I could remember our waiter's name, because he was absolutely outstanding. We had a surgeon in our party that was called in to do an emergency surgery, so he was very late to dinner. We thought he wasn't going to make the dinner at all, so our waiter was so kind to box up a meal for him. When he arrived toward the end of dinner, our waiter unboxed and plated dinner for him so he could enjoy the restaurant's nice ambiance and celebrate my mother's birthday with us. The only thing I wish they could do better is update the decor a bit. It's not bad, it's just not as impressive as the food and service. It also would be fun if they could decorate for the holidays like Arroyo next door. It makes the experience feel more special. Overall, Parkway Grill is a wonderful dining experience, and I would recommend anyone to go there.
We celebrated our anniversary. We both ordered the beef tenderloin dinner, medium rare. However, our neat came out closer to rare. Overall the quality of the food was very good. When we arrived at our table we had a nice card wishing us Happy anniversary. After our dinner we were given a beautiful bouquet of orchids and a cupcake with a candle in it to share. We were pleased with these surprise gifts. I would recommend this restaurant to dine in as a special occasion place.
A restaurant with great food, service and quiet, spacious ambiance. It is increasingly difficult to find a restaurant that has all of the essential elements of a fine dining experience. Look no further than Parkway Grill for all that you need for a fine meal. The steaks and lobster mashed potatoes were fantastic, as was the bread plate. I'll definitely return to try other things on the menu.
We returned to Parkway Grill after many years. The food was excellent, as it should be for the price. We asked for a quiet table and were seated where we were not close to a big party (there were two at the time). The service was a little disappointing. We had to ask for the bread basket after we saw it on other tables but not on ours. A second glass of wine came too late in the meal to be enjoyed with food. Overall, though, Parkway Grill deserves its good reputation for providing fine dining.
The Parkway Grill was recommended by our Uber Black driver, and we couldn't have been more pleased. Between the four of us, we had the Whitefish (very tasty and mild), the bone-in rib eye (cooked to perfection) and the lamb chops. Great bottles of Cakebread (?) Chardonnay and Goldeneye Pinot Noir. The evening ended with the Neapolitan Creme Brulee (shared and devoured quickly). The best part of the evening, however, was the amazing service given to us by Ericka. She is a tremendous plus for the Parkside Grill. We ended the evening in the lounge with the fantastic piano playing. All in all a perfect evening that demands a five-star rating.
Service was just okay but that might have been because we were on a firm lunch. Appetizers and desserts were great but the fried chicken sandwich was not great. Everyone had the salmon which I've had and loved but everything on the menu should be good not just okay like this fried chicken sandwich was. Service was okay as they refilled everything and cleaned our plates but their attitude was not awesome. Excluding the hosts that were wonderful!
Parkway Grill was always a special experience when I lived in Pasadena. Now living in San Francisco, I returned to Pasadena and looked forward to dining at Parkway Grill. Perhaps my expectations affected my response to the meal. A Caesar salad was uninteresting and while not over-generous, was significantly remaining on my wife's and my plate; the Romaine was warm rather than chilled, and while a few anchovies were draped over, the dressing was less than Caesarly. Whilke I heard no complaints about the appetizers of covered dates abnd another of lollypop lamb chops, my pricey ($48) halibut was not particularly large and was flavored mostly by a bed of grain and supposedly lobster but was not particularly flavorably or delicious so as to enhance the fish. An evening ending cappucino was excellent.
Food was wonderful as always but we ordered the special rib eye and the bill came with a $77 charge for the entree. Significantly higher than anything in the menu. Food was great but $77 for an entree is ridiculous (especially with no warning from the waiter)
As many times before, I had another great time, food and wine with my kids - Celebrating my birthday. The room was filled with energy - could have been because the Dodger game was on and they Won! The Bar scene is always fun and piano music fills the air with a damn good Martini. Can't wait to be back soon !
It’s my first time here, and the occasion was special as it was firmly hysbsnd’s birthday celebration. The experience was memorable, everything from the atmosphere to the food and service. It’s also a plus that there’s complimentary valet parking. The food was delicious and enjoyable, menu was impressive. Our server was kind and knew the menu very well. I will definitely return.
