Parkside Grille Ratings and Reviews
We really enjoy going to Parkside Grill for special meals with friends, both local and out of town. We enjoy the extensive menu and the Greek touch. I think we enjoy the starters and appetizers more than the entrees! But everything is interesting. Don’t go for the standard beef dishes - opt for the items that require the chef’s touch!
Returned here after more than one year, the food was delicious and the wines paired well. Started the evening out with the baked goat cheese. One of the advantages of this prep is that it can be made to taste several ways. If you like olives there are olives to add to the feta, if you like sundries tomato’s you can add those, there are also favs beans you can combine so this was a good appetizer. There was plenty of it so two could enjoy it.
Then we cHose to share the lamb chops, medium rare. Paired those with a Mendocino Malbec, delicious! Finally the flourless chocolate cake, again withMalbec, also a double espresso. Delightful!
A fitting return to a restaurant that has improved during my absence.
We went here for Halloween, and the food was OK, though we only had a few dishes. The service was very attentive. We had a good time at the Halloween party, and plan to return next year, and we hope they will have more parties. New Year’s Eve would be a good occasion.
After having enjoyed lunch here several times, I was excited to bring a group of friends for dinner. Unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. The food overall was sub-par for the high price point. One dish was under-seasoned, another was poorly plated and looked very amateurish, while yet a third had an overly generous portion of gravy which detracted from its appeal. The fried avocado appetizer was terrible. Only the ahi tuna was deemed a winner. Very sorry to have had such a disappointing experience. :-( It is also quite loud at night which may not be appreciated by all guests. On a positive note, the staff were attentive and helpful, and they have a good wine list.
Cozy, reasonable parking nestle in Portola Valley - just a lovely spot. A bit dark to wend your way out of back to Hiway 280 if you are not familiar with the surroundings (or even if your) - deer and other critters around. However the intimacy of this smallish restaurant and the generous menu selection makes it worth the trip.
This was our third time at this restaurant. We did get water and bread right away, but no waiter. We were put in a back room which was fine, since it was pretty quite back there, but then another party was seated and the waiter took them prior to us. After his third time he came in I got his attention and he had one of the other waiters take care of us. That waiter was kind of cold to us initially but by the end of the meal he was nicer. I pointed out that it was my boyfriends birthday both on open table and to the waiter but nothing was done. Food is very good, wine list is good. Service was ok.
The tempura avocado dish was innovative and I am glad I tried it, even though the tempura batter overwhelmed the taste of the avocado (which I love). My salmon was perfectly done. My companions all said their meals were perfect. We ate outside on a nice evening and had good conversation, something not always true in many indoor restaurants. One special note: Francesca, our waitress, was efficient, charming, and knew the wine list well---she deserves special commendation. Too bad she works only on Sunday and Thursday nights (we asked). The Parkside Grill is our local secret, so I am afraid I may have made it harder for locals to get a table at the last minute. Sorry.
Usually have a better experience here. Most of the food was good but, having finally tried the Parkside Burger, I was very disappointed. Ordered medium-well hoping to get a nice charred flavor on the outside and pretty tender meat on the inside, but it came out as a very very dry hockey-puck. The waiter asked how it was and I said "pretty dry!" and his only response was a quick laugh and "well, enjoy...."
I certainly wouldn't order a steak medium-well but, with hamburgers, you usually get a nice thin char with a juicy inside; unfortunately, that wasn't the case this time.
The deep-fried avocado with arugula salad certainly was a good starter though. And the complimentary bread is absolutely perfect.
The Grille was awfully loud, and the service awfully slow, on this occasion -- whoich has not been the case, in the past. We asked for a quieT, small table by the window but instead, were put in the middle oif a VERY loud room with (apparently) only one waiter (who has help in delivering what was ordered).
Been here a couple times, my 1st time here was a good experience. It was for lunch with a group. The food was good and nothing out of the norm. My second and probably my last time coming here was a joke. The food was good BUT the service was trash.
1. We got awkwardly stared down by the servers, patrons and what I assume was the owner of the place
2. The server kept looking out the window every time he addressed us (maybe 1-2x during the entire evening).
3. Furthermore, server rarely came back to ask how things were and if we needed anything. We needed a bit more help because we were dining as a family including little ones.
4. Server forgot appetizer plate and brought our dinner out and realized there was no space on the table for it because he had not cleared our previous table.
5. Overall, unfriendly and awkward experience that leaves me with the impression that I should not return, ever. The food is not worth the bad service.
Caution, if you have a family...dine elsewhere. If you are looking for culture (real Italian food) dine elsewhere. Otherwise, this place would be good for a girls night out or just for happy hour/drinks.
We have enjoyed the Parkside for several decades(through several owners) and have always had satisfactory(or excellent) meals. Service has always been very good. Present owner seems to have a more adventurous menu than in former days -- interesting selections. We are always happy to come the short distance from Palo Alto to this rewarding restaurant.
The food was very good. However, they did not have enough filet mignons, even though it was one of their specials, so one person had to have a New York Steak. The service was a little slow.
We have been to the Parkside Grille many times. The food and service are consistently very good. It is a nice local spot.
Enjoyed a lovely summer evening outdoors with good privacy and a very manageable ambient noise level. The food was very good with a lovely selection of seasonal specials. Service was the weakest link...little consistency to the wait persons tending the table and a sense that we were a nuisance, being outdoors and away from the fray.
