McCormick & Schmick's Harborside - Portland
Very unfortunate choice. The food was interesting and promising, but we couldn’t understand the truly awful service. Other tables around us received the server’s attention and regular plate delivery. We sat at our table mostly ignored. Two plates never even arrived and then a dessert menu appeared. We passed and left to salvage the evening. So much for an anniversary dinner.
This is literally my favorite restaurant in Portland. Every meal I've had there is a mix of interesting flavors that I never would have anticipated, and I never leave hungry. I'm someone who is almost immediately skeptical of the value of fancy dining, but for Park Kitchen, I'm a believer.
That this wonderful restaurant is closing to the public is a real loss for the city.
Park Kitchen is one of our go-to restaurants when our children are in town for a visit. The food is creative, and perfectly prepared using local seasonal ingredients. Our favorite is the Chef's Supper - a multi-course tasting menu with optional wine pairings that changes seasonally. One constant on the menu for years is the steak salad with blue cheese, parsley, sherried onions - amazing.
The staff is friendly and engaging, and definitely know the food and drinks. They rotate everyone on the staff between the kitchen and the front of the house, so you're talking to the people who prepare the food. The cocktail list features many creative variations on old standards as well as a few out-of-the box creations.
A consistent straightforward farm to table place. Creative flavors and ingredients. The owner has always had great bar managers with interesting offerings for cocktails. Great place to dine at the bar. Thanks to Scott, chef owner.
We chose the chef's dinner paired with wines. The first two items were fried and paired reasonably well with the wines. Subsequent courses were mixtures of strongly flavored vegetables (including pickled items) which clashed with each other and were impossible to pair appropriately with the wine. While the rib eye rib presented well, the very modest amount of meat accompanying it did not make it an appealing entree; however, it paired well with the wine. The Irish cream after dinner drink was a pleasant finish.
I'll dream about this place and this food until I return to Portland's Pearl to enjoy it again!
The chef’s dinner was spectacular! My adult son and I were celebrating his birthday and he couldn’t believe what a delicious experience it was. Have done the chefs dinner twice now and highly recommend it. Kudos to the chef and staff!
The food (Chef's Supper) was nice and the accompanying wines were great as well but we expected a nice dining experience for multiple hours but the servant was firing all courses (and wines) at us at light speed(!). We couldn't even finish our plates or glasses or the next plate was already beside the one before that! So in the end we stayed in the restaurant for approx. 1 hr and 15 mins. Maybe it's a US thing that you just want to be done with it pretty quickly but over here in Europe you sit back, relax, let dishes sink in, sip a bit of wine, wait on the next dish, etc. Maybe it had to do that the restaurant was quite empty and the servants and kitchen had nothing on their hands but this was really a big let down for me.
Overpriced and low value overall
Delicious, fresh, interesting foodie food. Great service! Pretty decor, atmospheric. Would definitely recommend and go again.
We had fantastic food and super service. Will definitely go back.
Lovely al fresco experience
We had excellent food and fantastic service. This was a perfect restaurants to entertain friends.
This was our second time dining here. Had the Cook's Choice, which in my opinion is the way to go. We loved it the first time beyond our wildest expectations.
This time it was good, but several of the items were deep fried and there were too many greasy plates for one evening. We are going to try once more and hope that we just hit it on a night when the choices were not as carefully thought out. Our waiter this time was a little aloof, contrary to our first experience when we were spoiled with a very warm and personal touch that was part of the whole experience. We will definitely go again and recommend if you haven't been, go. And do the prix fixed Chef's Choice. It's a fine value and a great experience.
I haven't been here in years, and was disappointed in my recent experience. The food was not as solid as it used to be, this used to be inarguably the best kitchen in Portland. And at this price point, every plate ought to be exceptional. We also don't love the no-tipping policy. Until a person can live nicely on the hourly wage, *in the city in which they work*, all we do is harm our hard-working service employees with policies like this. Portland ain't Paris. Don't make it hard to tip. The wine list was as exceptional as ever, and we loved our bottles. Sadly, every person felt their chosen plate fell short one way or another.
We were seated at a table in the bar section, and it was uncomfortable after a little while. Slow dining should have comfy seats and spacious tables!
Park Kitchen walks its talk about providing great service (to employees and customers alike) offering a plethora of high quality, all local and seasonal food. Innovative menu is full of creative delicious delights, combined with wonderful ambiance, smart and attentive service!
I'm not unaccustomed to paying for fine dining experiences and chef's menus. Our group was very underwhelmed with the amount of and quality of food. The wine was lovely but the list was generally all overpriced.
We ate the “Chef’s Supper” along with the recommended wines. It was $100 per person and at that price, I felt we got excellent value.
Each of the six dishes was unique and thoughtfully prepared, with the freshest vegetables and house made meats. Thoroughly enjoyable and healthy food.
The service was friendly, professional, and each of the servers knew all about the food and wines.
Their one-house model really works, and I am happy to support chef Scott and his crew.
If you can have one upscale meal during a visit to Portland, Park Kithen will not disappoint. It’s authenticity in food, ambiance, service, and commitment to Pacific NW farmers and values come through every aspect of your dining experience. Highly recommended.
Such a great experience! The food was unexpected and amazingly delicious and the wait staff was super knowledgeable. We will be back again soon.
Great food and service
Chefs Table with Som flight
Park Kitchen had a nice atmosphere and we loved their concept of One House. We had the tasting menu - which was a compilation of menu items. The wine pairing was great!
We had the Chef's tasting menu....8 courses with an additional two desserts. Everything, except for the grilled chicory, was amazing! Great price for all the food we got, cocktails were fun and creative, and the wine selection was pretty great.
We sat outside, which of course is not always possible. Because of that, we had a relaxing conversation, which was our main goal. But we loved the food too. Because we could order the exact quantity we wanted and the staff's tips are included in the prices, we found the prices very reasonable. Our choices were all superb. Our waiter was knowledgeable and guided us to get just what we wanted in both food and drink. The restaurant looked nice inside too, but I don't know what the atmosphere would be like if it got crowded. One more consideration that drew us to the restaurant: it was very convenient, being near downtown attractions and on the Maxi lines.
Park Kitchen is always a delight. The food is fresh, imaginative, and delicious, and the staff is always lovely. Thank you for a great dinner!
Love the use of the fresh vegetables. Love the wine pairings.
I don't live in Portland so I only come here once in a great while, but I have been coming here for over 10 years. The food never disappoints me. It is always very creative combinations of very high quality ingredients. There are dishes here where I would not have thought to combine certain ingredients, but it is turns out to be delicious as well as unique. The service is also excellent and I love their new NO TIPPING policy (maybe it is not that new but I haven't been here in awhile). You might think service would be worse under no tipping, but it was the same or better. The staff here really cares about the customer experience and it shows.
Ambience and service were great. Cocktails were delicious. Food was mediocre. We were disappointed that the food seem to lack more nuanced flavors and creativity.
A hidden gem, and one of our favorite places in Portland.
My first time at Park Kitchen, but it won't be my last! The menu contained so many interesting items, making it hard to narrow down the choice to just a few. I think you can't go wrong, though - the taste and presentation of every dish was excellent, and the service was great. A real find!!
It was a hot day and very hot inside the restaurant - not sure if they have air conditioning or not.
We hadn’t been for some time - happy to find it unique and innovative as always. Amazing flavors - cucumber almond soup a knockout, as was the squid ink pasta. Chicken fried morels not so much - tasty, but the mushroom find of got lost.
Great and very different, but terrific!
If you’re serious about your food and wine, come here. You won’t be disappointed.
Have been visiting Park Kitchen for years. The food and service only improve. It will always be on the top of our list, for the tasteful and creative local origins and warm and engaging service. Simply the best! Further, we are hugely supportive of their modern and updated business model of supporting their employees.
Fabulous as always!
Fantastic farm to table food in a quaint restaurant across from the park. Perfect Portland experience. And old fashions on tap!
A group of 6 of us did the chef’s supper tasting menu and the food was good but the portions were very small! They brought out a few small appetizers that were good and then only 2 small entrees for all of us. We all left hungry! Tasty bites but terrible value!
Understaffed for the most part. The no gratuity policy was evident in the lack of quality in the service. Way too long to get served. Usually in a restaurant like this the waiter explains the dishes to you. They just didn't have time because they were stretched too thin. The menu was pretty overwhelming so we needed some attention on this.
The salads were the best part of the meal. Everything else just so-so.
Service was amazing and the food was delicious.
We had the tasting menu with wine pairings. Exceptional food and service, with creative and delicious wine pairings. Couldn't have been happier with the whole experience.
