Park Central Tavern Ratings and Reviews
My family has eaten at PCT many times. The food had been consistently well above average. Service was great. But, our last few visits have been below normal. Tonight, we realize that subpar is the new norm at PCT. I don’t think we are alone in that opinion.
The restaurant was not busy on a Saturday night.
Our food tonight was unacceptable. But, finding someone to discuss it with was impossible. When the food was served, I balked at my chicken sandwich having a pool of basically buffalo sauce (not aioli spread on a bun) drowning it. I started scraping off some of it when our server walked up. When I complained, Gabrielle, our server, shrugged her shoulders and said that’s how it is served, then walked away. That’s basically the last we saw of her. No one ever did a check back to ask how our food was until it was time for plates to be cleared (and that was by the bus person).
My sandwich was the little issue tonight. My daughter’s calamari (her main course) was rubbery and had no lemon served with it. My husband and I thought she was being picky, until we tried it. The dish was awful. But, we couldn’t get anyone’s attention to complain until the bus boy asked to clear dishes. We sent 3/4 back and told him it was not his fault, but it was terrible. Again, no response.
We tried to find a manager (on a Saturday night you would expect a check-in at some point). Again, no luck.
When the check came, we were charged in full for the entire meal.
Until I hear they have improved I would recommend not frequenting this locale. Frankly, we get better service at Friday's: the food is about the same, and it's much more inexpensive (with tip our meal was over $80 tonight).
Save yourself the frustration and disappointment. Find a different restaurant.
A few friends got together for dinner. I had been here before so thought my friends would like it.
The service was great, the dining room did not feel crowded and the decor was very rich. The food was wonderful and my friends thanked me for finding such a great restaurant for our get together
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The food was excellent and service was very good. The restaurant has a parking lot in the back which is always a plus. Besides a wine list, beer list, the cocktails were different but good. We had the shrimp and grits and short ribs for dinner both were awesome, for apps we had the tuna and brussels sprouts that were out of this world.
I always like this restaurant but this time I would say that the food was not as good as it usually is. I had the Eggs Benedict with crabmeat and the eggs were overcooked, there was too little Hollandaise sauce, and the hash browns were not cooked properly. Normally the restaurant's food is better than this. On the other hand, two other people with me liked their food.
I do applaud the restaurant for an unusual menu!
We were in a lovely room but a large group was making so much noise (too many Mimosas!) that we had to leave. I don't blame the restaurant for this but it did not contribute to the experience.
It was an amazing date night. I had been here with my parents here a couple of times before and had good experiences, but I wanted to really impress this girl I had just started dating. We started with some oysters which we enjoyed very much. For entrees, I had a special which was this beautiful NY Strip with brussel sprouts and cheesy bread. As someone who doesn't like brussel sprouts, I ate every one. My girl had the salmon, and she loved it as well. Great ambiance and probably my favorite place in the area. Great for Quinnipiac and Yale students to have date nights in the area to get off campus for awhile.
Excellent menu with something for everyone. The Jambalaya was superb, deliciously spicy but not to the extent of obscuring other flavors. And the Filet Mignon was like butter with a cooked spinach that was very flavorful and tender (I generally do not like cooked spinach and often find it a bit tough to chew). I will order it again. The service was superb. Server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive but not hovering. A real gentleman who obviously likes his job and the restaurant and when asked, was able to give us some information about what the current owner did to make it into such a beautiful place. We have been to Park Central three times and have sat in the dining room each time. The decor is tasteful: wood paneling, a cork floor that is both sound dampening and very comfortable to walk on. Vaulted ceiling is sensational! We will return again...and again.
We chose the tasting menu with wine paring and the chef did a magnificent job with very creative dishes. The wines chosen were appropriate and good quality.
Not to complain but the quantity of wines was more than we are used to and much went unconsumed because of the need to drive. But all in all a very creative chef.
We've been coming to New Haven for years to attend the Jazz Series at the Lyman Center and we like to try different restaurants for dinner. This is our favorite yet! We appreciated the comfortable seating in the small but tastefully decorated dining room. The food was superb, starting with crispy Brussels sprouts. Oysters were tasty but way too small. Beer and wine choices were good and varied. The short ribs were wonderfully tender and were complimented perfectly by cheese grits and spinach. My wife loved the crusted salmon just as much. Service was friendly and prompt. Prices were about right. We will certainly return.
IT's Back!!!!! The best neighborhood restaurant. We took my sister who is visiting from Florida and consideres herself a foodie, was blown away by every single app and dinner. Here's the menu, for apps, there always great meatballs with ricotta and the best fresh tomato sauce, I'm Italian, I know great sauce, plus the Brussel sprouts, crispy and flavored with crisp bacon and a sweet and sour magic...perfect,... the best tuna tartare ever, I was dining at a very expensive restaurant Monday, and their tuna tartare was overly sweetened and expensive...no comparison. We also shared the Knudi, a delicate ricotta gnocchi, with pieces of a delicious ham, fresh peas shaved Padano cheese and topped with perfectly cooked fried egg...A MUST, after all that, we all had burgers, and for burger people, they were exceptional, mine was medium rare, and that's hard to get anywhere, chefs seem to undercook or most often overcook. Served with crispy fries, you could also have salad, but why bother counting calories after that feast!!!! and once again, finish off with the Beigets and chocolate sauce....just perfect
We had an amazing brunch. Everything was fresh and delicious. We started with Avocado Toast. My husband had the crab cake Eggs Benedict, which he loved. I had the traditional Eggs Benedict. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious. Our server was wonderful and was helpful in offering menu selection ideas. Highly recommend bringing friends and family when you are in Hamden. Perfect for a celebration brunch for all of you local college parents. A definite A+++.
We sat near the bar so that's why it was so loud, didn't realize we could have requested the dining room. Luckily fancy things tend to make my mom nervous so the more laid back ambiance probably worked in our favor. Just the same, I'd recommend the dining room as more appropriate for special occasions.
Normally I stay away from specials when out for dinner. The idea of pork with mushroom sauce mixture was too good to pass. The risotto is a great opener...can't come here and miss that item. Nice quiet area away from the bar but we still had the 90s singer song writers in the background. Very enjoyable night out. Highly recommend!
We were looking for a nice casual restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and had been driving by Park Central for several months. It is very appealing from the outside and even more so inside. We made a reservation on Open Table (always a plus) and were seating in the dining room. Park was an active bar area with seating but also two separated dining rooms for a quieter experience. Service was great. Gabbie our waitress was friendly knowledgeable and attentive but we never felt rushed. The drinks, wine and real local craft beer menu is extensive and impressive. We had appetizers of Artichokes flash fried and rolled in feta and lemon, spectacular and Calamari with Cherry Peppers that were tender and delicious. My entree of Shrimp and Grits was really special with a pepper jelly and Andouille sausage. The chef is from NC, and it shows with the Shrimp and Grits, perfect. Portions are plentiful, but save room for desert as multiple items will strike you including beignets and house made ice cream in great flavors. All in all a wonderful meal.
