Even though the staff was pleasant enough and the service ended up being reasonably efficient I still have to give a lower rating on that front as it took almost 15 minutes from when we were seated before anyone took our drink orders and I can never understand how places allow that to happen. Otherwise a decent neighborhood spot with a little better ambiance/vibe than your typical pub around grand central.
I met a friend here for dinner between a work event and heading back to Grand Central. Our waitress was friendly and helpful, the wine was delicious, and the food was out of this world. I ordered the special that night, which was pumpkin and mushroom risotto with pan-seared scallops and arugula. Heaven! It was busy - 7:30 on a Friday night - but we had a reservation and they let me sit and order a drink at our table while I waited for my friend to arrive. (Many places make you wait for everyone in the party to arrive). This will definitely be my new go-to spot when I need to stay close to the train station.
Servers were very pleasant. Food was good and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Menu sort of typical for the gastropub scene. Negroni was the only specialty cocktail. I thought it was very light and watery but that is they only issue. Guiness was poured appropriately.
much too noisy. my main course salad overfilled a too small bowl. when I asked for a flat plate, it took ten minutes to get a bread plate that was too small. I asked for dressing because there was none on the salad and the waitress argued with me. She came to remove my companion's plate before I was finished eating - a pet peeve of mine - why don't most waitstaff know this basic rule of etiquette that you do not remove plates until everyone is finished - are they so committed o the fast turnover of tables. Neither food nor service were good enough to warrant a return visit.
The restaurant was close to our Park Avenue hotel, so we took a chance after a long day of travel. The upstairs bar area was a beehive of activity, especially around the bar, consisting of what looked to be young professionals grabbing after-work cocktails. It was extremely loud at 8 p.m. so we opted for the lower level, which was much smaller and quieter that the upstairs area. The lower level featured several flat screen TV's which at the time were showing an MLB wild card game (although, oddly, not many of the patrons seemed to be watching the game even though the Yankees were in it.) In any case, we had a nice, friendly and attentive waiter; the food was good in an elevated bar food way; and the lower level was quite comfortable. Overall, I thought the prices were reasonable.
Great find near Grand Central without all the hubbub. Seeing two friends I hadn't seen in years, and service was so on point they noticed, gave us a few minutes to catch up before we even looked at the menus. I had the kale salad without cheese and the sweet potatoes w/ maple aioli, one of the best brunch/lunches I've had in midtown. Had the poinsettia cocktail which was also exquisite. Will be back.
Past experiences have been good so we went for brunch. This time was very different. Took a long time to get our order served and the restaurant wasn't even busy. It seems like they forgot. When we did get the food it was average in presentation and taste. And over cooked. Not to be repeated.
This is a great find near Grand Central, where good, reasonably-priced restaurants are in short supply. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. My only quibble was with the noise-level, which was a bit high for my taste. But if you're not particularly sensitive to ambient noise, this is a 5-star place.
I always choose Park Avenue Tavern for dinner with friends. It is near Grand Central so it is very convenient.
The food is delicious, much more inventive than regular bar food!
Service was good but a bit inattentive this time. I had to ask for water three times; was given a bottle when we had paid the check and on our way out.
My only complaint, the NOISE LEVEL!!!
You cannot even have a conversation with your table companions.
Dinner was good. Service was on time. Friendly & polite waitress. Nothing exceptional but nothing bad either. I dont like when you pay extra for your side of fries when ordering a burger but i guess thats NYC.
Drink i got was really good though.
Loud place but expected - not the best of looking for a more quiet place.
